Custom Artist Miranda Legendre at RoE

Miranda Legendre (you used to know her as Aaralyn) will be at the Vinylmation day for Reflections of Evil. She wanted to tease you with some info of special giveaways and figures she will have.

“The poor unfortunate (or lucky) souls attending the Reflections of Evil event on Sunday should be prepared for a villainous good time. When the theme was announced at Mickey’s Circus last year, the excitement was instant for many collectors that couldn’t wait to celebrate the darker side of Disney.

I am incredibly excited about the event and will be displaying three custom vinylmation pieces this Sunday.

The first piece I will be revealing is the largest custom project I’ve created to date, entitled “A Fine Day for a Little Croquet.” In addition to being the largest project I’ve done, the project also features sculpted pieces as well as a custom base.

My other pieces on display will include my past 9” vinylmation of Tick Tock entitled “Time is Running Out” and a new 9”/3” set entitled “Seeing Spots.”

After the breakfast, when the event begins at 9:30, I will be offering custom doodles of the famous mouse to anyone that provides a blank CYO vinylmation. At random, I will also be handing out doodles throughout the event to lucky visitors at my table.

In addition, I will also be hosting a giveaway to win a 3” custom vinylmation. The first 25 people to visit my table after the breakfast will receive two entries into the giveaway, as well as a magnet featuring one of my past villains customs.

If you are not attending the event and want to see my latest updates live, I will be posting on my Instagram account (@MirandaLegendreArt) as well as on my Facebook page (facebook.com/MirandaLegendreArtworks). In addition, I will also be tweeting from my Twitter account (@MirandaLegendre).

I’m looking forward to meeting friends and fellow collectors on Sunday. If you are attending please stop by my trading table and say hello; hope to see you there!”

Spotlight On: Aaralyn’s Tick Tock

Aaralyn is back and this time she created this cool Tick Tock from Peter Pan! We got her to talk a little about this figure. Make sure you take a close look at Tick’s stomach, there’s more then meets the eye there.

“I wanted to share a recent custom of mine that breaks away from the cuteness of my traditional style. A few friends of mine have been pushing me to try something different and with the recent re-release of Peter Pan, I decided to make one of my favorite characters from the movie.

Disney has a great talent for giving characters personality, even when those characters don’t speak, and I believe Tick-Tock falls into this category. One of my favorite scenes from the movie is when Smee is shaving Captain Hook (or the seagull rather) and Tick-Tock comes along. After Smee scolds him, he pouts before turning around and leaving. This clip from the movie was my main inspiration for this piece.

I added quite a few elements to this custom that I have never attempted before, which made this custom one of my most challenging. The first challenge I faced was cutting a hole in the body of the custom. After, I had to figure out how I wanted Tick-Tock’s face to fit on the mold and I spent a lot of time focused on his face. Somewhere in the process I decided to add a painted canvas background to his case, to give the custom more depth.

The last part of the process was installing the sound, working pocket-watch, and scenery inside the custom, then protecting it all with a piece of plexiglass. While the sound is installed inside the custom, the button to activate it can be pushed while Tick-Tock is sitting in his case.

In addition, I created a video to showcase these features:

I am also having a contest on my Facebook page to win a 3″ vinylmation custom, and the character will be chosen by the winner! The giveaway end March 12. 2013 at 9 pm CST. Please visit my Facebook page linked below for details; thanks for reading and good luck!

Spotlight On: Aaralyn- Roger Rabbit, Vanellope, and Lizard Wizard

“My three most recent 3” commissions were all a lot of fun to create. My customs always start with a sketch to get an idea of how I’d like the custom to look.

Roger Rabbit has so many adorable features, especially his big eyes, nose and ears. I focused a lot of my design time on getting the right facial expression. I’m really satisfied with how he came out and think he looks adorable.

Recently I also did a Vanellope from “Wreck-It Ralph” and a Lizard Wizard custom from the Disney-Pixar short “Small Fry.” (If you haven’t seen the short, it’s super cute.)

The hardest part of Vanellope’s design were her eyes and figuring out what kind of design I wanted for her ears. I really wanted to convey the childhood sweetness of her character.

For Lizard Wizard the hardest part was sculpting the hat. This custom represents a lot of what I love about commissions because I would have never thought to do this character otherwise and had a lot of fun creating him. I had never heard of the “Small Fry” short before and I really enjoyed the short along with this cute character.”

Aaralyn’s Tiny Tails – Final Vote

Aarayln has started the final vote for what should be on her latest custom series, Tiny Tails. Read more about it, then vote at facebook.com/artworksbyaaralyn.

“I am very excited to announce my very first custom Vinylmation series: Tiny Tails! This thirteen piece series will include Disney animals as babies.

Last week, I put a poll on my Facebook page, to narrow down the characters that my fans would like to see in the series. The Top 25 results are below. I have reposted the poll with these characters. The characters that are voted into the Top 8 will for certain be included in the set. The remaining five characters, including the chaser, will be artist’s choice. Please go to my Facebook page at: facebook.com/artworksbyaaralyn to vote by Friday, January 25, 2013.

I have included some of my favorite character pictures and quotes below for the Top 5 characters. If you have some favorite quotes or movie moments from any Disney animal characters, please feel free to share them in the comments!

1. Stitch – “This is my family. I found it, all on my own. Is little, and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good.” There are not many people who can resist the cuteness that is Stitch. Although he destroys small cites made of books, he also makes friends with ducklings and it doesn’t get more adorable than that.
2. Raja – Being a huge fan of big cats, Raja has always been a favorite of mine. He’s loyal and protective, and he doesn’t shred the curtains like my cat used to do
3. Pegasus – Big Eyes, Pastel colors, Cute wings…need I say more?
4. Cheshire Cat – “You may have noticed that I’m not all there myself.” While there’s not as much cuteness factor in Ches’s character, he is still a fan favorite due to his madness. Just don’t ask him for directions.
5. Pascal – He likes kids, he puts up with Rapunzel’s ventriloquist acts, and he’s fearless when facing a foe. The little guy has a ton of charm
6. Pluto
7. Chip and Dale
8. Lady
9. Thumper

10. Oliver
11. Tigger
12. Roo
13. Tramp
14. Dumbo
15. Dug
16. Marie
17. Meeko
18. Donald Duck
19. Figment
20. Roger Rabbit
21. Squirt
22. Simba
23. Bolt
24. Mittens
25. Copper
Also with similar voting numbers: Robin Hood, Turk, and Figaro”

Spotlight On: Aaralyn’s Baby Snow White

This week Aaralyn showed off her latest Vinylmation custom, the most recent princess in her princesses as babies style. We asked her for a few words about it…

“I have quite a few upcoming projects that I am really excited about. My next project is Tiny Tails, my first custom series and I will also be working on additional 9” customs in a slightly different theme/style than previous works. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy my latest custom!

When I first started creating custom Vinylmations in December of 2011, once of the first projects I planned was creating a set of Baby Disney Princesses. Although my style has evolved since I started, I still plan to finish the series that started with Cinderella, then Ariel and now includes the fariest of them all, Snow White.

The hardest part of designing this custom were her eyes. I sketched out quite a few different styles until one stood out. In the design stage, the eyes are the aspect that always seems to get the most sketch time.

Like the other baby princesses I’ve done, I also had the task of picking out an animal friend to include. One of my favorite scenes from the movie is when the baby bluebird tries to out-sing Snow White and the little bird goes out of tune, making its parents wince. I thought he was a perfect addition to the custom.

Spotlight On: Aaralyn’s Weird Girl and Steamboat Willie Mickey

Two more pieces from custom artist Aaralyn showed up on the internet this week. We spoke to her about her first two gray scale projects. Plus, check out a contest she’s running for the next two days.

“I’ve always said that I love doing commissions because many push my boundaries and help me grow as an artist. My latest two commissions included aspects I have never done before, which was quite exciting.

The first custom is 3″ Weird Girl with a Junior Mr. Whiskers from the movie Frankenweenie, done in the style of Tim Burton. The two figures also include Mr. Whiskers’ psychic gift from the litter box.

Before this commission, I had never painted a custom in gray-scale, or used shading in a custom. This project was also the first time I’ve painted a junior, which was an interesting challenge on the small mold. While this project was very different from my normal style, I enjoyed it immensely and hope to continue to experiment with different styles in the future.

The second commission I have recently completed is a 3″ Steamboat Willie with a sculpted accessory hat also done in gray-scale. The hardest part of this custom was the sculpting of his hat. While I have done quite a few Mickey designs, it was fun to do an older design of the character.

I have also painted a vinylmation pin which features my Lovestruck Mickey design and am giving it away on my Facebook page! The giveaway end Monday, February 11, 2013 at 9 pm CST. Thanks for reading and good luck!

Spotlight On: Custom Artist Project Sidekickz Artist Aaralyn

The Custom Artist Project is a group of 11 of the best custom Vinylmation artists in the world who have come together to make their own blind box series. Series 1 is called “Sidekickz” and is a mix of different Disney sidekicks from films or TV. It will be released on October 6th. Each day leading up to the release, we will spotlight a different artist from the series. Today we spotlight custom artist Aaralyn

Hometown:
Lafayette, LA

What Disney Sidekick did you choose?
Rajah from Aladdin

Why did you choose that sidekick?
Rajah is a very loyal sidekick to Jasmine throughout the movie and I love his character design. My favorite scene from the movie is where Jafar transforms Rajah into a cub. He has an adorable confused expression that I wanted to capture in my custom. In addition, I have always been a fan of cats.

Favorite Disney Movie?
I think this is the hardest question I’ve ever been asked. Growing up, I was always a fan of Beauty and the Beast. While now I can’t pick a favorite, some of my other favorites include Tangled, Mulan, Princess and the Frog, Brave, Up, and Monsters Inc.

Favorite Disney Theme Park Attraction?
While I love the People Mover at Magic Kingdom, my favorite ride is Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios. The ride is so much fun, even though my score could use improving.

Favorite aspect of working on the Mickey shaped canvas?
In addition to loving the challenge of creating art on a 3D mold, I love that every piece I design is shaped like the mouse that started it all. While I enjoy the other molds Disney has created, the Mickey mold will always be my favorite.
