RoE: Pirates of the Caribbean Series 2

Casey Jones is back at it again. What better way to follow up a brilliant and popular series based on the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean attraction… then with a series two! We should see it in 2014, but only have this image to go on so far.

Apparently we will be heading to Davy Jones Locker!

Park Starz 2 Photoshoot

Park Starz is my favorite Vinylmation series. So it was exceptionally fun to take Park Starz 2 around Walt Disney World for some photos. Here is what we came up with this time.

Episode 121 Tom Morrow Chaser

Ep. 121 Tom Morrow Chaser

A long, long time ago. In a galaxy far, far away. Two intrepid podcasters set out to broadcast the news of Vinylmation to all known lands. They had on board a set of Star Wars series 3 to review and even talked to one of the set’s designers, Maria Clapsis. They encountered other special guests as well. But not all went as planned…

Parks Starz 2 Variants Announced

Kind of a tricky headline for kind of a tricky piece of news. Disney’s Vinylmation website decided to tease us a bit by telling us that there will be Park Starz 2 variants, how many there will be, how much each one will cost and the edition size of each one… but no names or photos! But we can surmise some info from the post. Here is the lineup:

June

Vinylmation – Park Starz #2 – Limited Edition Variant Figure
Edition Size: 2,000
Retail: $24.95

July

Vinylmation – Park Starz #2 – Limited Edition Variant Figure Set
Edition Size: 2,000
Retail: $49.95

July

Vinylmation – Park Starz #2 – Limited Edition Variant Figure
Edition Size: 1,000
Retail: $26.95

August

Vinylmation – Park Starz #2 – Limited Edition Variant Figure
Edition Size: 2,000
Retail: $24.95

A few notes. One release is LE 1,000 while the rest are 2k… and you will pay an extra $2 for that one. Then, the first July release says “Figure SET.” SET?! Hmmm, what will that mean? I have a few ideas. My Ben Franklin and Mark Twain combo pack for one. Or how about the other two hitchhiking ghosts? What do you think some of these variants will be? Check out our Park Starz 2 Explained page to see the lineup of regular figures.

Park Starz 2 sketches

Artist Casey Jones tweeted this image of sketches of the characters from Park Starz 2. It’s an interesting behind the scenes look at all the characters. We are so excited for this next series! May 3rd, get here faster!

Thumper Hops Into Animation 3: Coming April 12th

The Disney Vinylmation Events page was updated to include an April 12th release date for Animation 3. While we do know the identity of half of the 12 figure mystery set and a few of the LE combos, the biggest reveal from this update was the combo topper. No photos as of yet, but it was revealed to be none other than Thumper from Bambi!

Photo from Disney

I can not wait to see what this figure looks like. Similar to the Classic Collection’s Oswald, it will be a let down if Thumper does not have the bunny ears instead of the Mickey ears. I think it also needs the cotton tail that we saw on the 2012 Easter Bunny figure.

By the way, Thumper is designed by Casey Jones… who also designed the Easter Bunny figure above. So I think it is a safe bet we will see the Bambi bunny on a similar platform! Thumper joins his buddy Flower from the 1942 Disney animated classic who appeared in Animation Series 2 last year.

You can find the series as we know it on our explained page here. What figure are you most excited about?

Star Wars 2 WDW Release and Signing

Your comments relayed a hesitation to shell out $15 per Star Wars 2 blind box, and the turnout this morning for the release of the second series seemed to back up the talk. Not many of the usual faces were lined up along the Downtown Disney sidewalk to purchase this set on day one. Now, to be fair, Disney did not play up this release like they did with the midnight event that was Star Wars series 1.

This morning, there was only a small crowd when the doors opened at 9am. A crowed that all but disappeared until the 11am signing.
There were about 20 people when Casey and Maria pulled out their pens. The crowed then, never more than about 10 deep, began a small but steady stream toward the autograph tables set up underneath the D-Street canopy.
I personally witnessed less cases sold. Most of the cases seemed to be purchased by out of towners as if the locals were banking on just trading to complete their set. It is possible that part of the crowed that would have been here today was instead at Star Wars Celebration VI at the convention center and will pick up series 2 later in the week.
I by no means think this is a condemnation on the series itself. It is a beautifully designed series with wonderful character selection. The big names HAD to be in here again, and Maria Clapsis did a fantastic job at making them her own. Maria talked about the attention to detail she gave all the designs. Casey Jones handled the aliens, and did so to perfection.
A few guests brought along the LE 2500 Hologram Princess Leia that was released exclusively at Star Wars Celebration on Thursday. Many collectors in line where making deals to add her to their collection. Designed by Maria Clapsis, Leia differs from Ghost Obi Wan in 2 ways. The blue is a darker blue representing hologram instead of a spirit. Also, Leia’s face is a more solid white as it would appear in the movie as opposed to Obi Wan’s facial features being outlined. The most remarkable design element for myself is how it transitions from her face and hands to her robe and the stark contrast how her more lit up skin is “cut off” and the figure becomes a dark blue clear representing the robe. Here are a few more pictures from the signing:
