PREMIERE DATE AND VOICE CAST FOR NEW ANIMATED SERIES ‘MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN’ ANNOUNCED AT D23 EXPO
The highly anticipated new animated series “Marvel’s Spider-Man” will debut with a one-hour premiere on SATURDAY, AUGUST 19 (7:00-8:00 a.m. EDT), on Disney XD, and on the Disney XD App and VOD (12:01 a.m. EDT), it was announced today by Cort Lane, senior vice president, Animation & Family Entertainment, and Joe Quesada, Marvel’s chief creative officer, during the Marvel Animation panel at D23 Expo in Anaheim. During the packed panel, news was also shared about “Marvel’s Spider-Man” voice cast, season three of “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout” and an all-new animated special from The LEGO Group and Marvel.

In the new series “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” we will see a fresh take on Spider-Man, as Peter Parker is learning the responsibility that comes along with being a new, superpowered hero in New York City, just as he’s being accepted into Horizon High, a high school for brilliant young scientific minds. He struggles with the duality of his social life at school and hiding his secret identity from everyone including his best friend Harry Osborn, who attends the competing Osborn Academy for geniuses. As Peter embraces his alter-ego and takes on super villains such as Vulture, Lizard, Doctor Octopus and Sandman, he watches his hero lifestyle come between his personal relationships and struggles to keep Harry from landing on the wrong side of the law.

‘Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout’ Returning for a Third Season on Disney XD
Series stars Will Friedle (“Boy Meets World”), Trevor Devall (“Johnny Test”), Vanessa Marshall (“Star Wars Rebels”), David Sobolov (“Transformers: Prime”) and Kevin Michael Richardson (“The Cleveland Show”), along with Lane and Quesada, announced that the Guardians will return for a brand-new third season on Disney XD titled “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.” The third season will find the Guardians gaining fame and fortune, but quickly knocked back on their heels after being framed by the Collector. The Guardians will travel to new universes, stage a massive sting operation inside the Nova Corps, and expose a Secret Invasion years in the making. A little bad and a little good – all in a day’s work.
The LEGO Group and Marvel will team up once again for an all-new 22-minute animated special “LEGO® Marvel Super Heroes – Guardians of the Galaxy: The Thanos Threat.” When Thanos, Ronan, Nebula and the Ravagers seek to possess the Build Stone – a powerful and creative relic – the fate of the universe depends on the Guardians of the Galaxy to protect it. Production is underway for the live-action reimagining of Disney’s 1941 animated classic “Dumbo.” Directed by visionary filmmaker Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”), the film stars Golden Globe® winner Colin Farrell (“In Bruges,” “The Lobster”), Golden Globe winner Michael Keaton (“Birdman,” “Beetlejuice”), Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Danny DeVito (“Batman Returns,” “Big Fish”), BAFTA Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Eva Green (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Dark Shadows”), and introduces Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins in their first film roles. The cast also includes Roshan Seth, DeObia Oparei, Sharon Rooney and Douglas Reith. Disney’s new live-action feature film “Dumbo” introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.
Walt Disney’s classic animated tale “Dumbo,” which opened Oct. 23, 1941, won an Oscar® for best scoring of a musical picture and was nominated for best original song for “Baby Mine.”
The creative team includes cinematographer Ben Davis, BSC (“Doctor Strange,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”), Oscar® winning production designer Rick Heinrichs (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Dark Shadows”), four-time Oscar®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), editor Chris Lebenzon, ACE (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Maleficent”) and BAFTA Award-winning make-up designer Paul Gooch (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”).
Utilizing state-of-the-art visual effects to portray Dumbo and many of his four-legged counterparts, “Dumbo” will be filmed entirely in England, both at Pinewood Studios and Cardington Studios.
Today at the D23 Expo, it was confirmed at the Walt Disney Studios Live Action Films Panel that Will Smith (“After Earth”) will indeed be playing The Genie in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming live action version of the classic Disney animated hit “Aladdin”. Smith will also be joined by Mena Massoud (“Open Heart”) as Aladdin and Naomi Scott (“Power Rangers”) will play Jasmine.
Lucasfilm has released some new character posters for Luke, Rey, Finn and General Leia Organa from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. So what is going on with the red theme? Seems like dark times are eminent for our heroes.

Bob Chapek has just confirmed that Epcot will be getting a major overhaul. Tom Fitzgerald took the stage to say that the Ratatouille attraction from Disneyland Paris will be coming to the France pavilion at Epcot, as we told you last month.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was just announced at D23 Expo as coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Nothing was mentioned about whether it will replace the Great Movie Ride, as has been rumored, but it was confirmed by the Disney Parks Blog that it indeed will replace the Great Movie Ride, whose last day of operation will be August 13th. We first brought you the rumor back in August of 2016, and then all but confirmed three days ago that it would be announced at today’s Parks & Resorts Presentation.
Kevin Rafferty took the stage to explain the new attraction, where guests will ride a train which has Goofy as the engineer. This will be a “two and a half D” (as opposed to 3D) with no glasses needed. “You will get to ride through a Mickey and Minnie cartoon short” and all new animated shorts will be created for the attraction, Rafferty said.
The attraction will have more Hidden Mickeys than any other attraction.

Although we reported that the attraction will take the place of the Tomorrowland Speedway, it was confirmed today that the Tomorrowland Speedway will remain intact, and the coaster will be located in a new area behind Space Mountain. It appears from the concept art that access to the attraction will be via the Tomorrowland-Fantasyland walkway that currently exists.

The TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction at Shanghai Disneyland is a coaster-style attraction where riders board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles. It offers access into the energy, lights and excitement of TRON’s high-tech universe. Chapek said the plan is to open the Tron attraction in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
