Goof Troop Sold Out- Why?

Goof Troop is sold out. In approximately 10 minutes. At 4 AM in the morning. (EST) During the 2 hour break I took for sleep.

From all reports it sounds like there was no limit to the amount you could purchase. And while this is an oversight on Disney’s part, let’s take a moment to account for something else. As far as I could tell, this set was not creating nearly the buzz that the other Disney Afternoon sets were. Yet for it to sell out this quick means that either people were buying huge numbers of these sets or a huge number of people waited til 4 AM to buy this set. Has vinylmation already been sold out to the hard core re-sellers? In less then 3 years has the fun collectables become so alluring to people who would buy sets only to resale that it might have destroyed the whole market? Or has the game gotten so big that a set of 1000 isn’t nearly big enough for the group of collectors?

How many people got theirs this morning? With a late release time it seems like it’s not possible that everyone was just there at the right time to get theirs. Can anyone else suggest a problem (as of right now, there’s only 2 on eBay, so I’m not sure about that theory). We shall see in the upcoming day.

It’s late, and I’m sleepy, so we’ll come back to this topic tomorrow morning, when I’m sure a lot more people will have a lot more to say.

Line at D-Street Orlando

Update: 3 PM According to reader Shaun, everyone in line at the Florida D-Street got one, but then they sold out almost immediately afterwards. So congrats to the line! (Boy was it hot out there!)

By many counts, it is possible not everyone in line will get a Rescue Ranger Vinylmation that was released today.

Duck Tales Out of Box and on my Table!

Regardless of price, this set is pretty cool. here’s a first look at our Duck Tales set out of the box (Although the design on the back of the box is very cool, just like with Tail Spin)
Check out the removable top hat (the third top hat in vinylmation). I also really like that the ears on Launchpad are clear in the middle. And Scrooge’s glasses are perfect!

Check out Launchpad’s scarf. Pretty cool if you ask me.

What do you think? Did you stand in line this morning to get these?

More Disney Afternoons Confusion on Price (Better Ending)

Update: 4/9/11 Wow, I just looked at the price tag on a box a friend who was in line behind me bought. His box is priced at $26.95, but they only charged him $24.95. Once again I have to say thank you to D-Street for being very cool about this situation. It seems now that after I mentioned the price problem (I was the first one out of the store) that they quickly changed the price tags on the box. But, and this is the awesome part, it seems like they kept charging the $24.95 price for everyone who was in line that morning. I heard the price went back to actually being $26.95, but it seems only after the wait line had ended. Very cool Disney, very cool.

Update: Noon. We are hearing rumors that the price might be back up to $26.95, I guess they have a price gun at D-Street.

Nick and I both waited in line outside D-Street Florida today to get the Duck Tales set. We got to meet with a lot of people, including oft-commenter Claudia!, and talk some vinyl. Once inside the store we picked up our Duck Tales set and noticed something interesting.

The price tag read $24.95. I was excited, because I was expecting to pay more, until I noticed they had rung me up for $26.95. Unlike the Tail Spin problem, D-Street graciously offered to refund my money. When I went back a little later, they did mention that the price when scanned had been changed back to the $24.95. Thank you Disney for staying true to the price tag! As of this post, the Art of Disney site still has this:

I appreciate the speed and easy of this solution, but it does bring to mind, why (after a month) are these sets still being released with the wrong price tags? And why, if they were already priced, did Disney go and change the price?

Artists Designs of Goof Troop Set

Today Disney opened up it’s Sneak page and allowed us a viewing of the Goof Troop set by Chris Chapman. We only saw a little bit of the designs in the advertising pictures a month ago, so it’s nice to see the whole figures. Again, no release date set for this set. What do you think?

Goofy

Another Goofy????? That’s like 5? 6? Dang, that’s a lot of goof. At least he only has two ears, unlike his Nerds version. His tie and sweater really bring me back to the show. (And that weird movie)

Max

Goofy’s kid from Goof Troop. He will come will a skateboard.

DuckTales out tomorrow! Take a sneak peek today!

Being released tomorrow, April 8th, is the 2nd set in the Disney Afternoons Series: Duck Tales!
The set is designed by Chris Chapman and will be releases periodically through the next couple of month. But tomorrow is the release of DuckTales, and today we got a chace to see the turnarounds of both chracters!

Launchpad McQuack

The pilot of both Scrooge and Darkwing, Launchpad has been all over the Duckverse. I think the long jaw is a good design choice, although it might be a little off color, like the Mickey Nerd mouth.

Scrooge McDuck

The main character of DuckTales. Check out the top hat. That’s the third top hat accessory so far. A pretty good accessory, but we’d rather some money bags!

What do you think of this set? Will you be out there tomorrow morning with Destination Vinylmation??

Duck Tales Release Date, Woo-ooo!

Update: 4/2/11 The Art of Disney DLR page had this graphic and confirmed the price as $26.95. Also worth noting, the small print saying “2 sets per guest, per day”.

Update: 3/25/11 Disney Events page officially posts the April 8th release date we announced earlier in the week. Thanks to J for pointing it out. It looks like both the FL and CA D-Streets will get the Duck Tales combo pack. It is NOT listed as being released online. Set your alarm clocks and we will meet you out there before dawn. What time will you line up?

Thanks to Ryan, the newest addition to the DV team, we have a release date for the Duck Tales combo pack from the Chris Chapman designed Disney Afternoons Series.

Expect to see Launchpad and Scrooge McDuck on April 8th. The only question is where? The release date info was uncovered at the WDW Trading Event this past Friday night. One Disney cast member said it would be released at D-Street, while the other said at the Disney Store Online. A Disney Parks Blog post back on March 1st said that all future Disney Afternoon releases after Tail Spin would all be at D-Street. The Tail Spin set retailed for $26.95, so we can expect the same price here. It also looks like the Disney Afternoons cartoon series will be released one combo set at a time. What do you think about this release info? Which is your favorite Disney Afternoons set.

New DV Reporter Ryan Got the Scoop on Some Release Dates

Destination Vinylmation is excited to announce the addition of a new contributor to our website. Ryan helped us out at the recent WDW trading event. Below, Ryan introduces himself and gives the scoop on some upcoming Vinylmation he uncovered at the event. Ryan, take it away…

Hey all, my name is Ryan, a photographer, writer and avid Vinylmation collector for the past few years. I’m the newest writer over here at Destination Vinylmation, and wanted to introduce myself. To get the big questions out of the way:
  1. How long have I been collecting? I’ve been collecting since about Urban 2’s release. I didn’t realize then how popular things would be and several times passed up on opportunities to purchase both “Ham and Eggs” and “Carnotaurus” 9 inch. I kick myself to this day.
  2. My favorite figure I own? Tough call, but I’d have to say Sulley and Boo!
  3. Favorite figure I don’t own? Mine Mine Mine is my current Holy Grail.
Anyway, enough about me! While the rest of the Destination Vinylmation crew was busy trading, I took it upon myself (as the newest member of the team) to head over to the trade box and upcoming release table and ask some questions about the imminent releases.
Park 6, as seen above, is set to be released on April 1. If you remember, Disney announced an April 1 release date, then retracted it because the product wasn’t at WDW yet. But according to the cast member behind-the-counter, that date is back on! Check out Park 6 Explained for more. This is a good time to point out the glaring lack of Steven Miller, Vinylmation’s tried and true “Ambassador of Trading”. According to the Disney cast members at the event, Steven has moved up to another position within Disney. Several pin traders took to calling the two women who were helping organize the event “Steven” as an homage to Mr. Miller. He will be missed.
Also being released with Park 6 is the Park 6 Combo Topper, which features Mickey Mouse from his highly popular animated short “Runaway Brain”. This 3 inch, as shown above, will go great with the recently released Villains 9” Julius + Minnie Jr. combo.
Other releases shown were TRON (March 25) and a couple already known Muppets 2 (April 15) figures. Also shown was the newly announced Celebration series which will be packaged and sold just like the Occupations released a couple weeks ago.
Also shown was the 9” + 3” Urban 6 combo of a Bubble Gum machine and boy blowing a bubble!
While no samples were on display, we also received confirmation that the Duck Tales 2-Figure set from the “Disney Afternoon” series will be released on April 8, although there were some discrepancies on whether or not the set would be online exclusive like the previously released “Talespin” set or in D-Street, as Disney previously announced it would be.

All in all it was a successful trade event. LOTS of Vinylmation traders peppered the sea of pin traders, and there finally seemed to be a healthy amount of trading happening. This is also likely because of the lack of a trade night in 2011 before March, and lots of new product has been released recently.

Thanks for reading, and until next time… make YOUR Destination, Vinylmation!
