CONFIRMED: Disney Junior Dance Party Replacing Show at California Adventure

Starting May 26th, 2017, guests traveling with little ones to California Adventure can find some new show experiences inspired by some hit shows on Disney Junior.

This new show will be called the ‘Disney Junior Dance Party’ and will feature stories from “Mickey and the Roadster Racers,” as well as “Doc McStuffins,” “Sofia the First” and “The Lion Guard.” The show will include live appearances from some characters, fun music from Disney Junior and much more.

The all-new “Disney Junior Dance Party” opening this summer will introduce a musically infused, interactive concert format that involves guests directly in the experience. This show will be replacing the former ‘Disney Junior: Live on Stage!’.

The changes come after union disputes about puppeteer wages, as we reported previously.

The all-new “Disney Junior Dance Party” show debuts in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure park on May 26, 2017.

RUMOR: Disney Junior – Live on Stage Removing Puppets to Become Screen-Based Show

The Disney Junior: Live on Stage show at Disney California Adventure will be closing for several weeks later this year to undergo a major overhaul that should be removing puppets from the show.

When the show returns later in 2017, it is rumored to be a screen-based show hosted by a single entertainer, utilizing clips from various Disney Junior programming. Not only will newer Disney Junior programs be incorporated, but the puppets that have been a staple of the show since it opened will be history as part of cost-cutting measures. The puppeteers in Disney Junior are union entertainers, and apparently this did not help their case (according to sources).

No exact date for the closure of the show has been made yet, but it should be in April. There is no word if similar changes will be made to the Walt Disney World show in the future.

The show was last updated in 2013 to include Sophia the First and Doc McStuffins:

New Stories Coming to Disney Junior- Live On Stage!

By Shawn Slater on The Disney Parks Blog:

'Sofia the First' and More New Stories Coming to Disney Junior – Live on Stage! in 2013 at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure Park
As a father of twin boys, the Disney Junior – Live on Stage! show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure park is a favorite stop whenever we visit those parks. One of the best things about the show is that it’s regularly updated to feature new characters and stories from the Disney Junior line-up on TV. Well, I’m excited to tell you (and them), that Disney Junior – Live on Stage! is primed to get another update in early 2013, when new hits “Doc McStuffins” and “Sofia the First” join “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.”

'Doc McStuffins' and More New Stories Coming to Disney Junior – Live on Stage! in 2013 at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney California Adventure Park
The new version of Disney Junior – Live on Stage! debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in mid-February and comes to Disney California Adventure about a month later, in March 2013. And be sure to catch the premiere of the “Sofia the First” TV series Friday, Jan. 11 on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
