Wish Upon a Star

On April 29th, the Disney Store will release this Jiminy Cricket figure in honor of World Wish Day.

That is a beautifully designed figure with a unique hat and a detailed umbrella. And the face looks great. Once again, I think the Disney artists are taking the faces of characters on Vinylmation to a whole new level. For every sale (up to $15,000) the Disney Store will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish when you purchase this figure. No word on price for this one.

Party Time At Disney Store!

As we have been talking about, the Disney Store will celebrate it’s 25th anniversary on March 28. We are leaning more and more to a non-release of the light up series, but they will give us at least one special commemorative figure on that day.

This clear figure designed by Jim Valeri is filled with Mickey head shaped confetti. Each figure will actually have a unique design. No word on the price or edition size. They will be released in an open window box.

I can say this figure doesn’t excite me. I don’t see a big reason to add it to my collection. Besides not really being into the design, I don’t really see the need to add memorabilia celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Disney Store. It’s not something I can jump on. Believe me, I gave Disney a ton of my money for WDW 40th anniversary stuff, so I get celebrating milestones, but not this one. What are your thoughts?

Release Day: Friday, August 3, 2012

Today Park 10, the Disneyland Paris themed set releases at both stateside D-Streets.

Does this set appeal to collectors in the US? I love the designs even though I have never been to DLP. It is also fun to have another Park set out just months after the last one. Check out Park 10 explained for more info.

Release day was not without surprises. Remember that Urban 8 online exclusive Monster and Archaeologist? It finally released today for $74.95. It is an LE 1500. Wow, a bit high on the edition size there. Best bet would be to wait for this one to be part of a 2 for $50 deal.

The LE 1000 Urban 8 Toilet Paper and Kid combo also released online. This one of course had previously been available at D-Streets before moving down I-4 to the outlets for about $20.

The Japan Geisha Minnie also released today. This figure is the last installment in the “Magic Around the World” releases at select US Disney Stores and will retail for $9.95. Interestingly enough, we finally (from a random comment on the Disney Parks Blog) know where these are actually getting released. Only the New York Times Square, SF Stockton St., Chicago Michigan Ave and Burbank, CA stores are getting these releases.

Music and Food Festival

Over at the DisneyStore.com they are having a Buy One Get One sale of So Tasty and Tunes vinylmation. Just pick up 2 and the second one will be free. The sale lasts from now until August 26th at 11:59 PM PST. For all the details see the image from the website below.

I understand the sale on Tunes, they have been around a while. But So Tasty feels like it just came out, especially on the heels of the Comic Con Exclusives. Maybe that experience has left a bad taste in their mouths. Will you be picking any up with this sale?

Vinylmation Speculation: Rumored Release Dates

Disney Mozart has done some digging and has come up with some, as of yet unannounced, release dates for some upcoming Disney Store Vinylmation. These dates seem to appear on the store CM’s schedules, but not on the Disney Vinylmation website. So again, we are just calling them rumor at this point.

January 29th

Just in time for Spring Training, we may see the MLB teams figures released. We know of 8 teams on the first wave roster (details). We were told at the Florida Project that all designs will be available at the theme parks and online, Disney Mozart is speculating on two things here based on his research… 1. The teams might only be released in their respective regions inside the Disney Stores. 2. Only the newly redesigned Disney Stores may be carrying these.

February 10th

The fourth set in the Cutesters series “At the Beach” should drop this day into the stores.

February 20th

I’m very excited about this set. Disney Store Tunes looks very well designed. According to Disney Mozart, we may see this in late February.

March 9th

We don’t know much about Urban 9. Just a sheep and toaster shown to us at The Florida Project, but Disney Mozart says we may see this series in March. I find this surprising. March is about when we should see Park 8 and I thought they would like Park catch up to Urban before the 9s came out.

Delays and Releases at the Disney Store

Disney’s Vinylmation website today has announced the Disney Store 25th Light Up series will be delayed indefinitely. It was originally scheduled for a January 30th release. We know the product is sitting in the backs of some Disney Stores around the country… does this point to a possible production quality issue?

Also, Disney Store Tunes will hit stores on February 20th! All figures except Classic Rock Donald and 80’s Dale.

Central Park Vinyl On Sale

Today, the 9″ Central Park Vinylmation went on sale. This LE 1540 Oscar Mendez design retails for $49.95.

The Playwright stopped by the Times Square Disney Store to take some pics of this colorful creation on the shelves.

The side of the box explains a bit about Vinylmation and the NY series.

The other side shows the concept art and the LE number. I like the design a lot. A great job of depicting perspective and a great color pallet.

The good news is this figure also went on sale at DisneyStore.com. It is interesting to note that this one comes with an Artist Card!

Meet Artist: Quincy Sutton

The Disney Store Blog today took a look at Disney Store character artist Quincy Sutton. Quincy is new to Vinylmation design, but not new to creating amazing products for guests. He designed 2 of the Furry Friends; Peter Pegasus and Percy the Pug.

Production issues aside, these were great designs (and my personal two favorites in this set). In this interview with the Disney Store Blog, Quincy hints to more Vinylmation he has created and takes us inside the process a bit.

“The whole process starts out as a concept. We come up with an idea of what a series will be about and the next step is to choose characters that are relatable to Guests and relevant to the series. The characters in the series should be a mix of popular and classic characters. We then figure out how to design the selected characters to fit on the Vinylmation form. Sometimes a particular character may fit better on the form than others, but we never give up on a character, we always try our best to make it work. Our initial concepts then go through a series of approvals, and once approved, we complete the illustrations. These designs are then sent out to be painted onto the forms. It takes a few months to see the first pieces and usually about a year of work before the whole series is released.”

UK Vinylmation Update with Sophie

Sophie, who usually brings us some great graphics (like the one above), has written an article on the state of Vinylmation in the UK.

In response to Susan’s Facebook comment about Vinylmation releases in the UK, I decided to write up what Vinylmation are and what might be available via the Disney store website.

Firstly, good news Furry Friends is coming this month as annnounced on the most recent Disney store newsletter. Might there be donations to RSPCA I wonder? Hopefully these can be brought not only from the website but from stores as well.

Regarding other series Animation 2 will most likely be purchasable in the UK as we’ve already seen Animation 1, which sold out online a while Iago. I’m really hoping for the 25th Anniversary series to make an appearance. In contrast Cutesters on the Beach I’m not looking forward to, but will probably be purchasable as Cutesters Like You are no longer on the website and have not returned suggesting that stock is low in stores. Furthermore Robots 2 should come over sometime this year, as Robots 1 has previously been available.

When these series will be released in the UK (and if) is hard to estimate judging by previous releases. With newly released sets they can be just a few weeks after the US release such as the case with
Villains 2 (which is still up) and the Jafar Genie 9″. Or a month later as with robots. But unfortunately there can be an even longer wait… a.k.a. Lion King. However, recently released set have been pretty good with Alice in Wonderland being available rather quickly, and with plenty of stock as they’re still up on the website. Although regarding Alice In Wonderland you still need to search Alice In Wonderland rather than Vinylmations in order to to purchase them.

Other vinylmations that are on the Disney store website today include the UK Flag 3″, Have a Laugh and Villains £8.00 each ($12.30), Jafar and Genie 9″ £40.00 ($62) and the Peter Pan Kidada £50.00 ($77.50). Also the UK exclusive 9″ Taxi and Bus have been reduced down to a further £5.99, originally £29.99, down to £20.00 down to £9.99 and now this! Yes that’s correct, a 9″ figure is now cheaper than a single 3″. Either because there were too many produced, or they weren’t selling or even the Disney store need to get rid in order to stock a new UK exclusive vinyl, I’m hoping for the latter. What would you like to see as a UK Vinylmation?
