BREAKING: Star Tours Will No Longer Mix Places & Characters from Different Eras, Ride to be Separated Into Two Paths

When Star Tours opens on November 17th, 2017, guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park will only find characters related to the latest Star Wars trilogy and will likely never see these characters mixed with classic faces and sequences moving forward.

 width=

What does this mean? Well, an entirely new opening sequence featuring characters from Episodes 7 and 8 will debut, followed by the Jakku sequence, a transmission from BB-8 (and maybe even some other new characters), and then finally, the new Crait sequence featuring the planet from The Last Jedi.

At a later time to be determined, guests will then have a choice between two paths in the attraction, culminating in ride sequences that either feature characters from the current trilogy (episodes 7-8) or those from the past (episodes 1-6). Think of this like Mission:Space at Epcot, where guests can choose between two different versions of the ride.

It is unknown when this will begin, but it should be somewhere in the timeframe of 6-12 months after the debut of the Crait scene later this month.

This separation would alleviate confusion for guests, as characters from very different eras in the series have appeared concurrently in the Star Tours attraction since its overhaul in 2011. That being said, the classic version would span Episodes 1 through 6, which still covers a wide range of time in the saga.

New Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain Art by NOAH Being Released at Disneyland

Noah will be representing his new Disney Parks Edition “Kid in Me” artwork at Disneyana, Main Street USA, Disneyland Park on November 18th-19th, 2017, appearing from noon until 4pm on both days.

 width=

A fan favorite at Disney’s galleries, Noah will debut his newest pieces: “The 8th Wonder of the world…the backside of water!” and “Growing up…The wildest ride in the wilderness!”. Noah will also be bringing some of his most popular Disney artwork to share with guests on both days.

 width=

Born and raised in Orange County, California, Noah grew up to be one of the most well-known artists in the country and around the globe. He began his first company on his bike at sixteen handing out business cards to create art, signs and illustrations for local businesses. Noah spends his time creating lines of product for cruise ships, galleries, his clothing line and private commissions for collectors.

PHOTOS REPORT: Disneyland Resort 10/23/17 (Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Mountain Range Appears, Splitsville, New Dress Shop, ETC.)

WDWNT reporter Conner Purzycki brings us back to the Disneyland Resort for a long-overdue photo report from The Happiest Place on Earth.

Rockin’ Galaxy’s Edge

 width=

The first pieces of sculpted metal rock-work on top of the show buildings in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have appeared.

 width=

From the Mickey and Friends parking structure, the two attraction buildings fill most of the skyline.

 width=

Walls have sealed in most of the “Battle Escape” attraction at this point.

 width=

 width=

 width=

Despite the height, the highest points will only be visible in the park from the back of Frontierland and Toontown, both of which surprisingly blend nicely with the mountain’s tallest peaks.

 width=

This is probably our last look inside “Battle Escape” at the Disneyland Resort before the whole building is enclosed.

You Can Always Go… Downtown

 width=

Tarps are on on Tortilla Joe’s facing the Disneyland Monorail station.

 width=

Work continues on Splitsville, set to open before the end of 2017.

 width=

 width=

 width=

Between Sprinkles and D-Street, the VR experience “Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire” will open on January 5th, 2018.

 width=

I guess January 5th is technically still a day before the traditional holiday season ends…

 width=

Not to be outdone by Orlando, Downtown Disney Anaheim now has the Disney Dress Shop, selling all of the very popular Disney Parks dresses released this year.

 width=

Ridemakerz is operating with adjusted hours right now, for some reason.

 width=

One of the former Disney information booths just outside of the esplanade is now a Haagen-Dazs location, because money.

Welcome to Disneyland

 width=

A construction crane looms behind the Sailing Ship Columbia and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

 width=

River Belle Terrace is being converted into a full-fledged table service restaurant, removing all of the leftover setup from when it was a quick service eatery.

 width=

Livin’ on the Edge

 width=

We now journey to the back of Frontierland and Critter Country to check out Galaxy’s Edge from the other side.

 width=

Some of the rock-work will peek over, but none of it will look out of place, which is nice.

 width=

The real question is where will Disneyland set up the queue to enter the land? Will it be here, or towards the center entrance behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? They have less than two years to figure it out.

 width=

 width=

A peek through the walls gives us a great look at that newly installed mountain range.

2019 can’t get here soon enough…

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Interactive Roaming Droid Character for Star Wars – Galaxy’s Edge Unleashed on Disneyland, and Children Unleashed Onto It

We have seen two separate tests to date of “Jake” the droid by Disney, inside Star Wars Launch Bay at Disneyland and at the Parks and Resort pavilion at the D23 Expo 2017, but now the roaming character developed for the upcoming “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” is going through some outdoor testing in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.

 width=

 width=

Guests will also encounter some signs pertaining to Jake as they roam around Tomorrowland. The test is occurring on most days, and Jake is being attended to by a undercover Imagineer who is watching over him.

 width=

This is good, because by the looks of the video below, Jake is going to need some protection…

The droid takes quite a beating during the short period where we watched him, getting kicked and pushed around by some children who he meets. Luckily, Jake was designed to handle such events, but one has to wonder just how much such a complicated piece of machinery can take. Well, this is why he is being tested years before his debut in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019.

Disney has stated that multiple droids and alien creatures will be roaming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when it opens at both Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

REVIEW: Cafe Orleans at Disneyland Drastically Revamps Menu

A Disneyland tradition for us, we just had to make a reservation to dine at Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square while we’re in Anaheim covering all of the HalloweenTime festivities. While we expected one new seasonal item for the celebration, we were instead greeted by drastically different menu…

 width=

For those unfamiliar, here is the previous menu:

 width=

Luckily, the beloved gumbo is still the seasonal soup, but our server said it will be changing. Also, the Monte Cristo has remained, which is important since Blue Bayou no longer serves it.

Bourbon Street Chicken ($20)

 width=

The Bourbon Street Chicken was an excellent boneless chicken breast, seasoned brilliantly, with well prepared rice and the most amazing brussel sprouts. This was one of the best entrees I’ve ever had anywhere at the Disneyland Resort.

Steak and Potatoes ($22.00)

 width=

The steak and potatoes were pretty good as well, accompanied by fantastic mashed potatoes, and once again, those amazing brussel sprouts. It wasn’t the best steak, but it was one of the better under $25 steaks I’ve had in a theme park.

Overall

Overall, I think a lot of guests will be upset with the changes here, but both of the new items we had were fantastic. Besides that, my usual favorites (the pommes frites and the Monte Cristo) are still here so I have zero problem with the major alterations. If anything, I now have a much tougher entree choice than I had before.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Reaches Highest Point

This week, Walt Disney Imagineering celebrated a huge milestone by topping off the tallest point of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park. The highest point of the new 14-acre land is 130 feet.

 width=

Below is a video Disney shared with us celebrating the milestone at Disneyland Park.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Star Wars Land Construction Update at Disneyland Park for June 10th, 2017

Thanks to our friends over at Fresh Baked Disney, we have another weekly look at how the construction of Star Wars land is going over at Disneyland Park. Here is a look at the project as of June 10th, 2017:

The race is on to complete the new riverbank for the Rivers of America before the 4th of July crowds arrive.

Trees are being moved into place currently, a good sign as landscaping usually is one of the last phases of a project like this.

Disneyland Finally Remodeling Adventureland to Deal with Crowding Issues, Several Locations Closing or Moving

If you have ever walked through Adventureland at Disneyland, you no doubt know how crazy and congested the single, narrow pathway that makes up the land can get. Well, after all of these years, Disney is finally doing something about it.

The Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost, opened in 1995, will close on June 12th, 2017.

The Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost, opened in 1995, will close on June 12th, 2017.

On June 12, the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost and South Seas Traders stores will close permanently. On June 30, the adjacent Bengal Barbecue will reopen with an indoor seating area using space from these two stores. Merchandise from these two stores will be moved into the existing Adventureland Bazaar shop.

Meanwhile, the Tropical Imports fruit stand adjacent to the Jungle Cruise will be closed to become stroller parking for Adventureland, removing the strollers from the center of the pathway. Tropical Imports will open at a new location next door to Bengal Barbecue.

While the crowding in the land during the day is a big part of why all of this work is happening, the expected crowds entering and exiting through Adventureland for the upgraded Fantasmic show is the main reason the work is being done right now. This likely means that we still have a few weeks until the show returns to Disneyland.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Enhanced Big Thunder Trail Opens at Disneyland, The Portal to Star Wars Land

Our friends over at Fresh Baked Disney have provided us with some photos of the newly reopened Big Thunder Trail at Disneyland Park, the first part of the park which was closed for the construction of Star Wars Land to return into service:

 width=

What has been construction walls for the better part of a year and a half is now open again.

 width=

While this bridge was here before, it now has some new lanterns on it.

 width=

 width=

Work continues on the new edge of the Rivers of America, as well as the new train trestle for the Disneyland Railroad.

 width=

Thankfully, the old cave from Mine Train Thru Nature’s Wonderland survived.

 width=

The trail looks fairly different now, with extensive rock work and props taking the place of the entrance to Big Thunder Ranch.

 width=

 width=

The new elements are just as well themed as anything around it and look as if they have been here since the early days of Big Thunder Mountain.

 width=

 width=

These new structures will block the guest view of Star Wars Land from Frontierland.

 width=

 width=

 width=

The Big Thunder Ranch logo can be found on the lamp sitting on the rock in this picture, a nod to the past.

 width=

 width=

The opposite side of the path is still pretty much as it was before.
