Do You Know the Dormouse?

This Friday December 17th fans will be able to purchase The Mad Hatter Vinylmation 9″ online at the DisneyStore.com.

We all know the Mad Hatter, but this post will focus on the less talked about 3″ that accompanies Hatter, the Dormouse from Alice in Wonderland.

Did you know, the Dormouse in Disney’s 1951 animated classic Alice in Wonderland shared his voice with a far more famous Mouse? Jimmy MacDonald, the voice of Mickey Mouse from 1947 to 1977, also voiced the Dormouse. Jimmy MacDonald was passed the job of voicing Mickey Mouse from none other than Walt Disney himself. MacDonald was also a legendary Disney sound effects artist. The Dormouse that was depicted in Alice in Wonderland also made appearance in a few other Disney animated productions including the Bonkers Afternoon Cartoon and Mickey’s Magical Christmas.

Be sure to log on early to DisneyStore.com this Friday to get your hands on this limited edition of 1,200 Vinylmation set. It will retail for $74.95 and was designed by Maria Clapsis.

Getting Goofy with Vinylmation

The Disney Vinylmation Blog recently released a picture of an upcoming Disneyland Passholder Exclusive Goofy’s Sky School Vinylmation. Here are some pictures and background info on this exciting piece. First, take a look at the Vinylmation up against some Disney Imagineer concept art for the attraction that is being built right now at the California Adventure:

As you can see, it’s a front shot of Goofy in his red plane with aviator goggles on. This ride is based on the 1940 cartoon short “Goofy’s Glider.” It will be themed like a flying academy to teach novice pilots how to fly. Riders will climb to the top of the 55-foot tall coaster through clouds that have Goofy-shaped holes. That explains the great detail in the left ear of the Vinylmation:
Here is some concept art for Goofy’s Sky School (which is a re-theming of the Mullholland Madness coaster that closed in October 2010):
And one last thing just for fun… Goofy getting ready for his new attraction:

Get Your Tickets!

For about the price of a Disneyland 1 Day Park Hopper, you will soon be able to buy a Booklet of Disneyland A-E Tickets!… only catch is they are Vinylmation and probably will not get you admission into the parks. But it’s a great looking set in a collectible box that will be available starting December 10th at D-Street only in California. This LE of 1955 produced set will retail for $99.95. Lin Shih (Holiday 2 Graveyard 9″) designed this series.

Mickey’s Soundsational Parade Coming to Disneyland 2011

From the Disney Parks Blog:

A new parade, Mickey’s Soundsational Parade, will stomp, clang and drum its way to Disneyland park next year.

Soundsational Parade Artwork

Today, we’re sharing the first preview of the artwork for Mickey’s Soundsational Parade. It gives you a glimpse of the vibrant colors and exciting array of Disney characters that may appear on the streets of Disneyland park in 2011.

Plus, there are a whole lot of exciting elements for the new parade that can’t be captured in this artwork:

  • The parade is an explosive music festival with thrilling rhythms and bold percussion that will bring to life some of the most beloved melodies from Disney films.
  • Live musicians will amplify the fun. Mickey Mouse and some of your favorite Disney characters will play live and will encourage members of the crowd to join a giant jam session.
  • Lively dancers will stomp out rhythms as a syncopated drum line, twinkling cymbals, steel drums and more entertain guests with sensational sounds!

The parade promises to be the most foot-stomping, infectious festival of music you’ve ever seen — or heard! I’ve heard it’s “soundsational!”

What do you think of this new parade? Is there a particular parade float in the artwork that you’re most excited about?

Check back on the Blog later today for more news about shows at Disney Parks.

New Star Tours and Little Mermaid Attraction Details

At the media festivities last week at Disneyland Resort, we got a closer look and a few more details about both “Under The Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid” and “Star Tours II” (note that Disney has dropped the II from the name, but we’ll be using it just to differentiate it from the current version of the attraction). While the previews are meant for Disneyland, both attractions will be almost identical at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.

First looking at the Little Mermaid dark ride, the clam vehicles are actually different from the Seas with Nemo and Friends

World of Color’s World Premiere

I know that this is WDW News Today and that we are supposed to focus on just Walt Disney World, but I thought it would be a shame if I didn’t share this video with as many of our followers as possible. As many of you are aware, I traveled to the Disneyland Resort to cover the media event for the debut of the new nighttime spectacular at Disney California Adventure, “World of Color”. In case you were wondering what to expect from this high-tech, emotional joyride, just watch the video of the full show below. Further coverage of the media event is being added to Disneyland News Today as we speak and this week’s upcoming WDW News Today and Disneyland News Today Podcasts will feature interviews, reviews, audio, and more from Summer Nightastic on both coasts. While we’re waiting for that coverage, enjoy the absolutely wonderful “World of Color”:
