The Road to No-Where!

Our first article dealing with the New Tomorrowland of 1998 is going to be about the Rocket Rods. This article is going to be a pictorial article, as Yesterland already has a wonderful article up dealing with the attraction.

Now, let’s get to it:

The entrance to the Rocket Rods

The other side of the entrance didn’t receive the logo due to budget issues… Big surprise!

The queue featured a re-painted, neon version of the Mark III Monorail…

… As well as a neon PeopleMover vehicle

The loading & blast off area, as well as the Observatron

The attraction vehicle… Very weird in my opinion!

The only vehicle that had neon features added to it

The Rocket Rods closed in April 2001

Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters replaced at the Rocket Rods queue building in 2005… The track is empty

Tomorrow, a look at the American Space Experience!

The Future Has Arrived

Exactly 10 years ago today, the New Tomorrowland of 1998 officially opened to the public. While it’s not one of the best times in Disneyland’s history, it is a moment I’d like to look at. So we will be celebrating it in various ways for the next week.

Each day, a special article of sorts will be put up taking a look at each of the various attractions part of this re-do (the first one will be up tomorrow). And on this week’s edition of the Disneyland News Today Podcast, we’ll have a special audio tribute segment, featuring music from Rocket Rods, Space Mountain, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, & more!

So stay tuned, & remember… “BEYOND THE GREATEST STAR OF ALL LIES OUR FUTURE!”

Monorail Red Problems Continuing

From the OC Register:

Disney’s first new monorail car in two decades — called the Monorail Red or Mark VII — is still being tested by Disney and no opening date has been announced.

Disney Spokesman John McClintock said today that the new train is still undergoing tests and adjustments. That includes the doors and air conditioning. He said both are working, but just not yet to Disney’s satisfaction.

McClintock said there is no date yet planned for the monorail’s public opening. When asked if the monorail might make it out for this Memorial Day weekend, he said that is “not at all likely.”

The Monorail Red’s biggest change is in looks: The first electric cars have blue glass and red stripes that change color in the sunlight. The next two cars will be blue with purple glass and orange with blue glass.

Bench seats will face the windows, allowing visitors a full view of the parks, Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Hotel. The capacity and speed will remain the same.

MiceAge Picture Update

Let’s take a look at some various things going on through-out the Disneyland Resort from this week’s Dateline Disneyland, plus a special Friday edition of Monday in Parks on MiceAge:

The new railings for the Sunshine Plaza Fountain have been installed

A new sign has been installed at the Tomorrowland Monorail Station

A look at the drivers seat for the Mark VII Monorail

The exit waterfall rock work at the Subs is almost finished

Also, the green water hoses feeding the entry waterfall have been half-camouflaged with a covering that is similar to the cavern rock work

Waaaalllll Eeeeee!

The latest character in the Living Character Initiative is going to be Wall-E. He should start appearing in Tomorrowland later this year, but a little video from an event in LA has surfaced, & one word sums up this walk-around animatronic… AMAZING!

The exit to Toy Story Midway Mania (it’s roped off, obviously)

Some well needed shade for DCA

The new food stand, Don Tomas, is open…

… This is its very limited menu

Let’s take a look around the mini Disney Gallery at the exit to Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years

Not a lot of water dropping, is there?

And now a look at the new Prince Caspian Pre-Parade to Walt Disney’s Parade of Dreams

We’ll have more photos of Walt Disney’s Parade of Dreams up in the Disneyland Park Gallery later tonight

Ever since the Bug’s Life float in the Pixar Play Parade came back, the floats have been in a different order: The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story

This is pretty much all of the main Bug’s Life float at the moment

To cap this DLR Picture Update off, me & Ariel at Ariel’s Grotto, which will be closing soon to make way for the new Disney Fairies meet ‘n greet

That’s it for this DLR Picture Update. We will of course have bigger versions of all of today’s pictures, plus many additional ones up later tonight in the Image Galleries. We will of course let you know when they’re up!

Summer of Hidden Midways

The picture bellow, taken by the website Original D, of the latest Disneyland Resort maps, shows off 2 interesting things:

First off, more confirmation of the Indiana Jones Summer of Hidden Mysteries, which will begin on May 22nd. And secondly, this is the first time that the new Toy Story Midway Mania attraction has had the Midway part of the name including in anything promotional. That makes me happy!
