NBA Teams Explained

Release Date: First Wave: February 17, 2012 (in parks) Late February (online)
Where: WDW, DLR, Online (see below for specific team)
Price: $14.95

Update: 02/11/12 Added pictures of Jazz and Nuggets figures.

Update: 01/28/12  Some updated pictures below and 2 previously unknown teams added: Spurs and Thunder. We saw this display at last nights WDW trading event.

This will start as an 8 figure Open Window set. They then can then add more teams later on. All the figures have the same basic design. A team colored basketball for a head. The team logo is on the front of the body with the teams colors in back of it and alternate team colors on the sides. They also have wristbands of the team color painted on each arm. For as big as sneakers are in basketball, I thought the feet would have a little more detail.

LE 2000
Release Date: June 1, 2012
Price: $89.95
Artist: Lin Shih

One of the original three resorts to open at Walt Disney World (Fort Wilderness and Polynesian). The side of the resort is featured on the viny’s front. The resort is famous for it’s A-Frame design and unique room construction. Each room was built off site complete with electrical and plumbing and then just inserted into the frame.

Picture from D23 WDW 40th slide

Picture from D23 WDW 40th slide
The resort is also famous for the monorail track that travels right through the building. So it makes sense, a 3″ Monorail would accompany it. We have 4 Monorails (Red, Blue, Green and Orange), but this will be the first in new mold.

9″ Yeti
Animal Kingdom (2006-Present)
LE 1000
Release Date: TBA

We have a Park 1 Yeti and a Park Starz version, but none seem to capture the Yeti’s ferocity as depicted in the Exhibition Everest attraction as this one does. It has the straggly fur, glowing red eyes and big teeth where as the other version depict a more cartoonish Yeti.

Picture from JimHillMedia.com

Picture from MousePlanet.com
The figure looks to take inspiration from both the animatronic Yeti himself as well as some of the artwork in the queue. But the big question remains… will the Vinylmaiton Yeti’s arms move?

9″ 25th Birthday Cake Castle
Magic Kingdom (1996-1998)
LE 1000
Release Date: June 1, 2012
Price: $54.95
Artist: Mike Sullivan

To celebrate the 25th birthday of MK, imagineers transformed Cinderella’s Castle into a giant cake.

Picture from leagueent.com
400 gallons of pink paint, 26 giant glowing candles, 30 3ft. tall lollipops and more decorated the castle for 15 months. This figure seems to represent one of most debated renovations in Walt Disney World history.

9″ Mickey Mouse Revue
Magic Kingdom (1971-1980)
Artist: Alex Maher
LE 1500
Released: May 2012

An opening day attraction that featured audio animatronic performers lead by Mickey Mouse. This figure portrays the dressed up conductor Mickey with accessory baton. The rest of the orchestra was made up of classic Disney characters.

Picture from Walt Dated World
The attraction was replaced by Magic Journeys, The Lion King and eventually Philharmagic. The show now resides at Tokyo Disneyland.

Disney Classic Collection Explained

Disney Classic Collection
November 9, 2012 at WDW, November 10, 2012 at DLR
Where: D-Streets
Price: $12.95
Details: 12 figure mystery box series. Disney characters in their classic black and white form. The series artist, Eric Caszatt will have a signing at both the WDW and DLR releases.

Update 9/10/12 Updated pictures with HQ photos from Mickey’s Circus.

Update 7/18/12 Product shots of Minnie, Mickey, Clara and Donald added.

Update 6/30/12 If it wasn’t for that pesky Haunted Mansion series, the Disney Classic Collection may be the most anticipated set among Disney fans. So imagine the excitement when these images showed up in the window at D-Street Anaheim! Zoe snapped us some pictures that give us a look at most of the set. (Clarabell the Cow and Donald Duck have already been shown to us by Disney)

Minnie MouseFirst Appearence: Plane Crazy (1928)

She appears in the Kingdom Hearts video game series as the queen of Disney Castle, with Mickey serving as the king and her husband.

Pluto

First Appearance: The Chain Gang (1930)Pluto is considered one of the first Disney characters to break out of the “rubber hose and circle” formula style the studio had relied on; the dog’s design gave him the appearance of actually being round instead of flat.

Mickey MouseFirst Appearance: Steamboat Willie (1928)

Walt Disney himself voiced Mickey until 1947. Bret Iwan is the current man behind the voice.

Dippy Dawg (Goofy)First Appearance: Mickey’s Revue 1932

By his seventh appearance, in Orphan’s Benefit first released on August 11, 1934, he gained the new name “Goofy” and became a regular member of the gang along with two other new characters: Donald Duck and Clara Cluck.

Horace HorsecollarFirst Appearance: The Plow Boy (1929)

He appeared frequently from 1930 to 1932 and less frequently afterward, making his final classic-era cartoon in 1942. Horace was given small cameos in Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).

Gideon GoatNot 100% sure about this one, there seem to to be a few different goats in early Disney cartoon history and in my research, this one was only in comics. But the horns and glasses point to Gideon.

Gideon Goat was a supporting character in the Mickey Mouse comic strips of the 1930s. Gideon first appeared in the 1930 Mickey Mouse Book #1.

Clara CluckFirst Appearance: Orphan’s Benefit (1934)

Clara’s singing is meant to be a caricature of the Bel Canto style of Opera singing popular at the time of her appearance.

PeteFirst Appearance: Alice Solves the Puzzle (1925)

Pete is the oldest continuing Disney character, having debuted three years before Mickey Mouse. in the cartoon

Peter Pig
(May also be Percy Pig?)First Appearance: The Wise Little Hen (1934)Peter Pig only appeared in animation again in The Band Concert and was used in various Disney comics as well. He also made a brief cameo in 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Clarabell the CowFirst Appearance: Plane Crazy (1928)

Often paired with Horace Horsecollar, she sometimes was the love interest of Goofy.

Donald Duck
First Appearance: The Wise Little Hen (1934)

He has appeared in more films than any other Disney character and is the fifth most published comic book character in the world after Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and Wolverine.

Oswald
Mystery Chaser

It had to be Oswald. Ever since we saw the bunny ears introduced… it had to be Oswald!

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Jr 6 Explained

Jr 5 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Release Date: April 20th, 2012
Price: $9.95
Artists: Thomas Scott and Alex Maher
Details: This series is based on the 1937 Disney animated classic movie. It was the first full-length cel-animated feature in motion picture history. Due to it’s importance in the history of Disney animation, the Vinylmation team thought it deserved its very own set… and rightly so. This should be a tradition Junior set in that it will have 16 known figures and 2 mystery chasers. (Disney Mozart did a great speculation piece on this set) They have made leaps and bounds in the designs of juniors, and this set has some of the most remarkable detail we have ever seen.

Update 4/21/12 Set was officially released on 4/20 and we have added pictures of all the figures below, including chasers. Price of each blind box raised to $9.95.

Update: 4/11/12 Thanks to Vinylmation Kingdom, we have a look at the side of the case that gives us the remaining set list (minus chasers).

Prince, Raccoon, Squirrel?, Blue Bird, Turtle, Evil Queen, Mirror, Huntsman. By the way, the box art is fantastic!

Update: 3/8/12 We know have an actual product shot of all seven dwarfs and the princes herself.

Park 8
Release Date: February 17, 2012 (D-Streets) March 2012 (online)
Price: TBA
Details: This mystery box series is the second Park set in a row that celebrates the 40th anniversary of WDW.

Update: 2/7/12 Variants, Combo Topper, and Chaser all confirmed (see pics below)

Update: 2/6/12 These are the pins for the series. Get a closer look at the belly halves of some of the figures.

Snowman
Blizzard Beach

Nice carrot nose! Really like the fact they used that prop in place of painting it on.

Buddy
Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor (MK)
Artist: Thomas Scott

What a cool addition into the Parks series. Off beat and very well designed.

Robot Chef
Horizons (EPCOT)

I’m surprised a Horizons figure waiting until Park Starz. Now Mickey mold gets one. Perfect use of clear ears to put the hat and cups. Head could have been done small with some clear, but I like it.

Safari Truck
Kilimanjaro Safari (Animal Kingdom)
Artist: Eric Caszatt

I’ve been asking for more ride vehicles, this set gives us 2! Mud on front and the cargo on top… beautiful. Can’t wait to see the back.

There is a variant version that has no mud:

Minnie Moo
Mickey’s Birthdayland (MK)

This cow with a Mickey Head spot was at a petting zoo inside Mickey’s Birthdayland (later Toon Town) in 1988. Another perfect character choice.

MK 1981 Ticket
Magic Kingdom
Artist: Thomas Scott

Yes!!! When we got the concept art we were hoping for an eyelet in the ear… little did we know we got a string too. Thomas explained how the original ticket came with this string you can tighten around your neck.

* picture from vintagedisneylandtickets.blogspot.com
Nautilus
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (MK)

I’m glad they are giving us a 3″ even though we have the amazing 9″. A good design with the top out of water and clouds in ears with the bottom underwater with bubbles ind the body.

EPCOT Retro Map
EPCOT
Artist: Thomas Scott

I love retro and the colors on this figure are amazing in person. This was a design used on some merchandise in the early 80’s and the guide map. It represents both Future World and World Showcase.

100 Years of Magic
MGM Studios

The lone studios representative in this set is the giant hat that sits as the centerpiece to the park.

There is a variant to this figure:
WDW 25th Anniversary Logo
WDW 1996

Variations of this logo was put on various merchandise, CM name tags and other places as well. Nice capture of all the features with Sorcerer Mickey in one ear and Tink in the other. The clear head represents Cinderella’s carriage.

Robotic Diving Suit
The Living Seas (EPCOT)
Artist: Eric Caszatt

Thanks to Chris and Austin for helping me remember this classic. In the former Living Seas attraction, guests could get behind this suit to control the arms and simulate working underwater.

Mystery Chaser
Fort Wilderness Mickey
Ft. Wilderness Resort Logo WDW

Might be my all-time favorite Vinylmation. You know I love this hat on Davy Crockett and the design is spot on. This one has a sentimental tie for me as this was the resort of choice for my camping family when we visited WDW.

Animation 2 Vinylmation Explained

Animation 2
Release Date: January 13
Where: D-Streets and Disney Stores
Price: TBA

Artist Signing
January 13, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
D-Street Orlando
The artists currently scheduled to attend include Mike Sullivan, Casey Jones, Monty Maldovan, Thomas Scott, Adrianne Druade and Eric Caszatt.

Update: 01/12/12 The variants have been revealed and they, with the chaser, have a common theme.

They are all missing something! Noah’s Ark Donald doesn’t have rain in the ears or drops on the head. In my opinion, that makes this figure supremely inferior to it’s regular version. The Noah’s Ark Donald with rain drops is one of my favorites. Taking the rain away, even for a variant, takes away the sense of this figure. It is also interesting to note that this Donald’s 2nd variant (Park 6 Wet Paint Donald). Here is the second variant…

John is showing off for the ladies as he goes shirtless in the variant. It makes sense, but like many variants, not one I’ll go out and search for. What are your thoughts on these variants?

Original Article: Please leave your thoughts below… here’s mine. Character selection is phenomenal! Love the mix of classic and computer animation with some shorts and TV tossed into the mix. It’s also a nice 50/50 mix of main to supporting characters. Overall, after seeing some recent releases, I expected a tiny bit more in the detail. I think most of these are great designs, but I’m not sure they stand up to the sets we saw released in late 2011 and will see in early 2012. That being said, most are spot on capturing the film character. The artist star of this set is Casey Jones. He designed 5 of the 12 known figures and 3 of my personal favorites… Donald, Sebastian and Jose Carioca. He also used the ears better than any artist in this set. The inclusion of Kim Possible, a TV character, makes me excited about future set lists. Disney talks about 2 variants… what do you think they will be?

Flower
Bambi (1942)
Artist: Casey Jones
The skunk is drawn well and true to the character. I could use more, but the green ears well represent the forest backdrop. (more than white)

Baloo
Jungle Book (1967)
Artist: Adrianne Draude
Although I like the Disney Afternoon version better, Adrianne really captured Baloo’s happy go lucky face.

Chicken Little
Chicken Little (2005)
Artist: Monty Maldovan
We have now seen new mold sets with lots of detail and shading, so I feel I want more and this is an example that falls a little flat for me. I would expect some show of feathers on the head. But I love, love, love the falling sky reference in the ears!

Dopey
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Artist: Monty Maldovan
Perfect. If your not going to go stylistic, I like when artists try to capture the character in the style they were originally done. This seems to capture the simple yet beautiful art of this classic Disney film.

John Henry
John Henry (2000)
Artist: Mike Sullivan
The most obscure choice in the set. This character is based on a 10 minute Disney short. Really like the hammer and the expression on the face.

Kim Possible
Kim Possible (2002-2007)
Artist: Thomas Scott
I applaud the awesome character choice. I like the way the face is drawn and I can see design wise why the pants had to come up so high, but go look at the Light Up set Rapunzel for how the hair can frame the face to slim it down. But i’m very happy she was included.

Jose Carioca
Three Caballeros (1944)
Artist: Casey Jones
Yay! So glad he is recognized here. Great face. Fantastic hat. The stars in the ears finish this one off very well.

Sebastian
The Little Mermaid (1989)
Artist: Casey Jones
What a perfect use of different vinyl features! The claws are welcome here. The blue clear ears and feet to give the water and bubble effect!

Tigger
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977)
Artist: Mike Sullivan
Not only did they do a tail, but the did it right.

Tinker Bell
Peter Pan (1957)
Artist: Casey Jones
No offence, but don’t get another Tink here. I understand there are a ton of back stage designing, production and scheduling that we don’t know the timeline of, but this is just a lesser but almost identical version of the Park 7 Tink:

Donald Duck
Fantasia 2000 (2000)
Artist: Casey Jones
Best Donald face yet by a Disney Artist! Great choice for a character and I love the use of rain in the ears and drops of water all around the head. This Donald is from the Noah’s Ark scene in the Fantasia update.

Mystery ChaserClick Image to Reveal Chaser
Combo Topper
Jiminy Cricket
Pinocchio (1940)
Artist: Bob Holden
This is Bob’s first Vinylmation and a great job. Jiminy fits the mold well and the artist did a great job with proportions. The hat is magnificent. I hate to do this… but umbrella seems to be a no brainer. We will see.
