Haunted Mansion Explained

Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion Explained page. A 12 figure blind box series based on the classic Haunted Mansion attraction should be released sometime in the Fall of 2011. Do you have room for one more… Vinylmation set in your display? It’s not a stretch to say, this set will be a very popular series. Our tour begins here in this gallery where you see the figures we know to be in this set.

Haunted Mansion Explained
September 21 (WDW), September 22 (DLR)
$12.95
12 figure blind box series with variants designed by Casey Jones. Casey will hold a signing at each the WDW and DLR releases.

Check out the Variants here!

Executioner

He is an imposing figure in the Graveyard scene.

Great Caesar’s Ghost

He has a robe and sandals on. Found at the end of the table in the Great Hall.

Gus

One of the 3 famed Hitchhiking Ghosts. Now part of a brilliant interactive ending inside the Haunted Mansion were the ghosts “physically” interact with guests using facial recognition mirrors.

Ezra

Inexplicably missing from the listed set? Is there a way to fit him in as a variant? Combo Topper?
Phineas

One of the 3 famed Hitchhiking Ghosts. Now part of a brilliant interactive ending inside the Haunted Mansion were the ghosts “physically” interact with guests using facial recognition mirrors.

King

His majesty is found on a teeter totter over a tombstone with the Queen on one side and him on the other.

Bride

She is found haunting the attic. She was given new “life” during recent renovations.

Master Gracey

“Master Gracey laid to rest. No mourning please, at his request.”

His tombstone is found outside the Haunted Mansion. Inside, you can find an aging portrait.

Hatbox Ghost

Appeared in original Haunted Mansion attraction were his head would disappear and show up in a box he was holding. He was removed because the effect was not working as intended. He can be seen in paintings hanging on the walls of the hallway now. Legend has it that the Animatronic Hatbox Ghost was striped down by Disney Legend Marc Davis and used as Sam the Eagle in America Sings

Singing Bust

On the left of the Florida Project slide, you can see one of the singing busts you find in the graveyard. An easy variant.
Help with name please?

Captain Culpepper Clyne

Found on a portrait inside the WDW attraction as well as in the new interactive queue.

Park 7 Vinylmation Explained

Park 7
Release Date: October 14, 2011
Blind Box Price: $12.95

Update: 02/23/12 9″ Main Street Electrical Parade and 7 Adventures get 2/24 release date. And according to a D-Street Cast Member, will have a retail price of $44.95.

Update: 01/27/12 Today DisneyStore.com released various Park 7 LEs including the Online Exclusive Main Street Electrical Parade Dragon and 3 piece Fife and Drum set. They also released 9″ River Country and 3/3 Horse and Trolley combo.

Yesterday Disney announced a 6 figure set based on the Tapestry of Nations parade. No pictures released yet, but the release date is February 3 and the price is $99.95 on this LE 2000 set. See details here. We are still waiting on details for Kitchen Kabaret. You can see the entire Park 7 LE lineup below.

Update: A ton of updates on this series today. First, an October 14th release date for the series and the combo topper. Second, we updated the pictures below. Tinkerbell has wings! Also, the Park 7 pin that we called Hong Kong Castle is NOT in the 12 figure set. Makes sense, because Park 7 and Park 8 are themed Walt Disney World for the 40th year celebration. Hence the amazing packaging:

No bland black boxes for Park 7! The used the same collage that is featured on other WDW 40th merchandise.

Here is the 11th figure we did not get from the Park 7 pins:

Update: 9/12/11 New pictures from The Florida Project

Update: 8/28/11 Well, after D23 we now have a clear view of the 11 known Park 7 figures and a release window. We guessed at a few of them when we first posted this explained page… and missed horribly, but in November 2011 we will see the following figures.

Donald Philharmagic
Casey Jones

The best 3″ design EVER. Hands down. Wow. This is a favorite of mine. It’s from the Philharmagic show where Donald gets stuck in a tuba at the end of the show. Only to get blasted out into the wall behind you and then end up tangled in the instruments of the ceiling of the gift shop.

Muppet Vision 3D
Lin Shih

This colorful figure fits perfectly onto the Vinylmation. It’s Kermit’s hot air baloon that flies high over the attraction. It has a lot of bright colors and a clean design.

America on Parade
Casey Jones

This amazing little guy depicts the parade float Mickey, Donald and Goofy rode in America on Parade. (see Fife and Drum set below for more info)

Polynesian Fire Dancer
“Cousin Q” Quynh Kimball?

Ok, they kicked it up a notch. Look at the fire stick! The pin didn’t do this guy justice. The ears are clear with the left having a flower and right saying “Aloha”.

Tinkerbell
Eric Caszatt

The famous fairy gets another vinylmation. Is this her flying through the night sky over the park? Will she have a wand? Oh wow she has a wand! Look at that wand with a star on top. Her outfit also has a real glittery appearance. I have to say she looks a ton better in person than she did on pin. Wings!

Star Jets
Eric Caszatt

A Tomorrowland ride that has had or has versions in all the theme parks. The ears are clear and have the rockets painted on them. Its a perfect rendition. It’s also a perfect accessory piece on the head.

Figment in Spacesuit
Thomas Scott

Figment makes his 3rd Vinylmation appearance… not inside a spacesuit. He has a Buzzlightyear-type helmet and clear ears to show off his horns.

World of Motion Sea Serpent
Maria Clapsis

It’s the Sea Serpent from World of Motion who is found looking right back at Christopher Columbus who is searching for the New World.

picture from lostepcot.com
EPCOT 2000
Thomas Scott

Love it or hate it, the EPCOT ball had a wand attached to it for 8 years. This figure celebrates the occasion. In the picture, it says “EPCOT” above the ball, however, when the wand was originally put in place in 1999, it said “2000″ as on the Vinylmation. I liked it, but 8 years was overkill.
– Nick

Kali River Rapids
Billy Davis

A river rapids water ride in the Animal Kingdom. This figure is from the logo and sign that greet guests at the ride.

Earful Tower
Lin Shih

This was the iconic feature of Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM) in Orlando, FL until the giant sorcerer’s hat was built in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.
Mystery Chaser

Could be anything. What would you like to see?

The combo topper is Magic Kingdom Mickey from 1971 designed by Monty Maldovan.
3″ Horse and 3″ Trolley

Released in January 2012
Based on the transports you can see at the Magic Kingdom.

3″ Fife and Drum Set
Jan/Feb 2012
LE 5000
$44.95
Mickey Mouse

This set represents America on Parade that ran from 1975 – 1976 at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. In the parade, Mickey had a flag, but it wasn’t in the display. Mickey does have a tri point hat on his head.

Donald Duck

Donald played the fife in the band as they rode the parade float down Main St. USA. The eagle float that Mickey, Donald and Goofy rode on was 18 feet tall. I like the duck bill extending down to the body. A ton of great Donalds coming out.
Goofy

Goofy has a drum and stick accessory. The artist did a great job at capturing his eyes and face. The drum says “America on Parade”.
9″ River Country Goofy
Jan/Feb 2012
LE 1000
$44.95

River Country was a beloved Disney water park before Blizzard Beach and Typhoon lagoon came along. It opened in 1976 and closed in 2001. The area next to Fort Wilderness sits abandoned today. What was your favorite attraction there?

Magic Kingdom Ticket

7 Adventures in one place! I want to go!

Click image above to reveal the chaser

Update: 08/13/12 The Disney Parks blog released some new photos today and some words from SW2 artists Thomas Scott and Casey Jones

“The first series was created at a different time in Vinylmation history,” explained Thomas. “When we began developing series two, we considered several factors for future growth. We again worked closely with Lucasfilm when selecting the characters for the new series. We also thought about how those characters could appear in future series.” – Thomas Scott

“I like using the ears as a way to further enhance the story,” explained Casey. “When designing these figures, I looked for something iconic to add to the ears, such as the ‘binary sunset’ on the Tusken Raider or Obi-Wan Kenobi figures. Adding design elements from the film help set the stage for each character.” – Casey Jones

The article says that Casey Jones created concept sketches of each figure, while Maria Clapsis turned those sketches into full-color images.

Update: 08/07/12 Artist Casey Jones tweeted us to let us know the release date for Star Wars 2 in Orlando will actually be Friday, August 24 (Disney’s Events page said 8/25). Casey Jones will be at D-Street from 11am-1pm EST to sign Star Wars 2 figures.

Update: 08/06/12 Release date of Saturday, August 25 announced for D-Street Orlando. Casey Jones will be at D-Street from 11am-1pm EST to sign Star Wars 2 figures. Also, the LE 2500 Princess Leia Hologram figure will be on sale at Star Wars Celebration VI from August 23-26. Celebration is a ticketed convention held at the Orange County Convention Center.

Update: 07/29/12 Release date of Saturday, August 25 announced for D-Street Anaheim. Casey Jones will be at D-Street from 3p-6p PST to sign Star Wars 2 figures. No release info for Orlando yet. But the weekend of August 23-26 is Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando, so a release is expected.

Update: 07/18/12 Pictures of 11 of 12 figures now up. Here is a look at them in their entirety from Vinylmation World.

Update: 07/08/12 Pictures of Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Muftak added in pin form.

Update: 11/17/11 The facebook page for Star Tours had a first look at the Obi-Wan vinyl from Star Wars 2.

Star Wars Series 2 is based on characters from a New Hope Episode IV, the first Star Wars movie to hit theaters. This series was a Casey Jones, Maria Clapsis and Thomas Scott collaboration, each contributing to different parts of the design process they could best handle. As more figures are released, we will see the composition of the set. Do they have to repeat the big stars of the movie franchise? (Luke, Leia, Han Solo) Or can supporting characters carry this second series?

Darth Vader

Window in one ear, stars in the other. A bit more realistic looking that the series 1 version. It has a helmet shaped feature coming off the head!

Princess Leia

The walls of the ship in her ears look great. Can’t wait to see the details in her clothing in person. The hair buns are the perfect touch after the braided hair ring for series 1.

Luke Skywalker

His return for series 2 puts him on Tatooine with the duel suns ablaze and the colorful skyline in the ears.

Muftak

He is found in the Mos Eisley Cantina. He is paired up with Kabe in the movie

Ponda Baba

Nice coloring and that’s a great looking, although ugly, face.

Han Solo

He looks a lot better in this series. I didn’t like the bland Han look from Series 1. He looks more rugged here with more defined hair and clothing features.

X-Wing Pilot

Great visor look just like X-Wing Mickey.
Grand Moff Tarkin

Tarkin is the commander of the first Death Star. In Episode IV he is portrayed by actor Peter Cushing. This set is doing a great job so far at use of ears. Instead of blank, the artist is using them to represent where we might see the character.

Obi Wan Kenobi

Luke’s first mentor as a Jedi. Also the chaser in Star Wars 1 with a “ghost” variant.

Greedo

The bounty hunter that comes after Han on Tatooine. He never shot first!

Tusken Raider

Roaming Tatooine, these guys ride single file to hide their numbers. Amazing use of ears. The desert scene looks great.

Where: Online, WDW, and DLR (see specific team below for details)
Price: $14.95

Update: 1/27/12 We can add three teams after seeing the display at the WDW trading event: Jets, Chargers and Colts.

Update: 1/27/12 NFL Teams released online today. Patriots, Giants, Steelers, 49ers, Dolphins, Bucs, Cowboys and Raiders. No Saints as we thought would be in the first wave of 8 figures. Instead, this Raiders figure:

All figures are open window and $14.95. All 8 are available online and most will be available at WDW and DLR on February 3rd. Bucs and Dolphins are the exceptions so far. They are online, but will not appear at DLR, only WDW on February 3rd.

Update: 11/20/11 The Disney Parks Blog, in an article about football themed merchandise at the parks, had this picture of 7 upcoming NFL Vinylmation figures. We already knew 5 of them from The Florida Project, but this pictures adds the Saints and 49ers to the list. They also adjusted the release window to early 2012 instead of Fall 2011.

This will start as an 8 figure Open Window set. They then can then add more teams later on. All the figures have the same basic design. The team’s football helmet painted onto the head. The jersey on the body is more generic, with just the team’s color. The numbers painted onto the front and back of the jerseys are 00. Gloves painted with the team’s color. The feet are painted so that they appear to be spikes. From head on, you can see the face mask painted on to the face and NFL written on the helmet.

Mascots Vinylmation Explained

Mascots Series
Release Date: June 22
Price: $12.95
Details: 4 figure open window series. Foam fingers, flags and hats highlight this series.

Mickey

Mickey comes with a baseball cap and is wearing a red sweater.

Goofy

Goofy has the most interesting design change ever, his right arm is bent and includes a foam finger design.

Pluto

From the HK dumpster dive we saw Pluto, but he was without his school flag. It seems like that flag would slide into holes in his mouth.

Donald

DOnald comes with a different type of hat and matching sweater.

Furry Friends Vinylmation Explained

Furry Friends
Release Date: January 9, 2012
Where: Disney Stores
Price: $10.95
Details: $1 from each purchase goes to the ASPC. Click here for January 7th artist signing and early release in CA info.

Update: 1/6/12 According to Vinylmation.com, Furry Friends will hit WDW and DLR in February.

Update: 12/29/11 Higher quality pics added below. Also, with the release of the turnaround pics, we don’t see any actual tails. A bit surprising even though the hook for this set is certainly the paws. But it is nice to see that Pegasus actually has wings!

Update: 12/28/11 Chaser revealed on vinylmation vault page.

Update: 12/27/11 Pictures of the 11 figures have been released by the Disney Store Blog. Take a look below. Nick: “I think I have been turned around on my feelings about this set. The character selection, not just dogs and cats, is wonderful. The addition of Meeko and the Pegasus from Fantasia is so welcomed in my book. I also like the artwork of the faces. Percy the Pug looks spoiled and wrinkly. Patch looks happy and playful. With so many choices out there, it is odd to have 2 from Pocahontas and 2 from Oliver and Company.”

They also released a picture of the packaging which I think is extraordinary!

This is why I have so much stuff piled around my house! I don’t even want to toss out the packaging from the stuff I buy at Disney! Very innovative and eye catching. It almost doesn’t look like Vinylmation would be inside.

Remember the artist signing and early release on Saturday, January 7 at the Costa Mesa, CA Disney Store from 10:30am-1:30pm.

After a tease a few weeks ago, we finally see whole figures of the Furry Friends. Unlike MC predicted, they have normal bodies and feet, only their arms are different from the normal Vinylmation.
It also looks like AnneMarie has been perfect in her predictions so far. Check them out at Vinylmation Speculation: Furry Friends.
Check out Marie’s bow. I wonder what other cool accessories they will add for this set!?

Percy
Pocahontas
Artist: Quincy Sutton
I think he captured Percy’s pug face masterfully. Am it biased? Maybe a little. But the slanted face, wrinkles, nose mouth and animated eyes are all done very close to the original.

Side view shows Percy’s collar.
Meeko
Pocahontas
Artist: Jim Valeri
Because Meeko’s head is anglelar, its hard to capture on the round Mickey head, but it doesn’t have the sharp defined characteristics the animated character has. The face looks too dog like.
Tramp
Lady and the Tramp
Artist: Jim Valeri
The face seem a little off to me. Tramp is a skinny dog and that is hard to capture.
Patch
101 Dalmatians
Artist: Gerald Mendez
I really enjoy the playful look on his face and the placement of the mouth and tongue is perfect.
Peter Pegasus
Fantasia
Artist: Quincy Sutton

A wonderful whimsical look painted onto Peter’s face.

These wings make up for no tails.
Francis
Oliver and Company
Artist: Oskar Mendez

A well drawn face with wrinkles and a nice expression.

Max
The Little Mermaid (1989)
Artist: Oskar Mendez

Good job with the hair in the eyes and the huge black nose. The tongue could have used more slobber!

Trusty
Lady and the Tramp (1955)
Voiced by: Bill Baucom
Artist: Jim Valeri
With no Tramp or Lady, this is an interesting but great choice for this series. He has the perfect droopy face and gold diamond dog tag.
Oliver
Oliver and Company (1988)
Voiced by: Joey Lawrence
Artist: Gerald Mendez
This lovable cat is a must for this set. The artist captured the sad look and fur color and even gave him muddy, dirty feet.
Marie
Aristocats (1970)
Voiced by: Liz English
Artist: Matthew Chittavanichprapa

In yet another Vinylmation appearance, Marie has an extra special accessory: a cloth bow. But unlike her Animation 1 figure, this one’s top head bow is painted on.

Pluto
First appeared: The Picnic (1930)
Artist: Enrique Pita

This is one of the first two figures we saw from the series. I really like how he works on the figures. His big eyes and tongue give him a playful appearance.

The Chaser

The chaser was revealed on the Disney Vault site. Once again, before the release. I wonder why Disney keeps doing this?

(Click on image to reveal chaser)

Alice in Wonderland Vinylmation Explained

Alice in Wonderland
Artist: Thomas Scott
Release Date: November 4th, 2011 (WDW)
November 5th, 2011 (DLR)
November 4th at Disney Stores
November 11th DisneyStore.com
Price: $12.95
Where: Disney Stores and Online

Walt Disney’s Alice in Wonderland is a 1951 animated classic. Walt was always fascinated with Lewis Carroll’s stories of Alice and used the character in many productions before this. He toyed with the idea of mixing live action and animation but settled on a fully animated feature. The animation in this film is fascinating with a brilliant Wonderland designed by Mary Blair of Small World fame. Filled with many memorable characters, this film is perfect for a set of Vinylmation all to it’s own.

Update: 11/3/11 At the D-Street Orlando Alice release on Friday 11/4, there will be 3 one-of-a-kind 9″ Alice customs available for $1000 each.

By Lana Cook from Chicago, Illinois. Comes with a small pocket watch.
By Julie West from San Fransisco, California
By Jeff Lamm from Ohio

Disney also showed off some packaging details. As with the entire set, the box and tray art was designed by Thomas Scott.

All photos from Disney

Update: 10/4/11 Disney released a picture of the box art for the set. Check it out.

Update: 10/2/11 Alice release dates announced. 11/4 at D-Street Disney World and 11/5 D-Street Disneyland. On the 5th at Disneyland artist Thomas Scott will also be signing from 10 AM – Noon.

Update: 9/11/11 Thanks to The Florida Project we know the 11 3″ pieces.

Update: 8/29/11 We added some pictures from D23 and now have confirmed that Thomas Scott is the artist of the entire set.

Update: 5/31/11 According to a comment from Kristi, the eBay sale has been pulled. Also, based on various opinions, it seems likely that the piece was stolen or pulled from a trash bin.

Update: 5/30/11 Disney has just gotten back to us about the Alice series. It has not been officially released yet in any part of the world and they are looking into how any of the figures got out and onto eBay. They are currently working on this and other matters to ensure good communication between all the places that carry Vinylmation and smooth out release issues.

Update: 5/30/11 There was a listing for the Green Hedgehog on eBay. It has been listed by a seller in Hong Kong (thank @lindols)We do not know the details of the release, or if it has been officially released. We have contacted Disney and are awaiting a response. We have also learned by the seller’s photo that the Green Hedgehog, therefor maybe the entire set, was designed by Thomas Scott.

Mad Hatter

Voiced by: Ed Wynn

The crazy party guy, played by Johnny Depp in the live-ish action movie. Great top hat. Nick likes the use of Mickey’s ears. There’s a shoeless variant.Remember we already have the Chris Chapman designed 9″ Park 5 Mad Hatter.

Queen of Hearts

Voiced by: Verna Felton

The evil queen who has it out for Alice. Check out her crown (we think it’s glued on like Dumbo’s hat). Great looking piece!

Cheshire Cat

Voiced by: Sterling Holloway

This mysterious cat appears and disappears helping Alice on her journey. Notice that in this lighting the Mickey ears blend into the background creating the effect they are looking for.
Check out the tail on the back!

White Rabbit

Voiced by: Bill Thompson

This poor guy is constantly late. Alice follows him down into Wonderland. On his side is his pocket watch.

Caterpillar

Voiced by: Richard Haydn

The return of the Neck! Great use of this accessory.

Dodo Bird

Voiced by: Bill Thompson

Leads Alice to the Caucus Race. Don’t confuse his beak for a Flamingo.

Oyster

Voiced by: J. Pat O’Malley

These guys are converted to the sides of Carpenter or Walrus. Well, until they find themselves devoured.

Tweedle Dee

Voiced by: J. Pat O’Malley

Great job at capturing this guy as he fits perfectly onto the vinyl. You can even see part of the flag in his ear. But what would Dee be without…

Tweedle Dum

Voiced by: J. Pat O’Malley

March Hare

The March Hare (just like everyone else in Wonderland) is mad. The hare is best friends with the Mad Hatter and enjoys tea just as much as him.

Green Hedgehog

This character played an unwilling croquet ball in one of the Queen of Hearts favorite pastimes.

The Alice in Wonderland series will also have several LE sets.

9″ Walrus and 3″ Carpenter

Voiced by: J. Pat O’Malley
LE 1500
$74.95
November 2011

3″ Cheshire 2 pack

LE 5000
$26.75
November 2011

The future? Only one 9″? Will there be more?

*Note: The following was speculation before we knew more about the set. We can only speculate on the rest of the set as of right now:

Dinah

Alice’s cat. There was a piece on eBay that lead us to think this is a piece in the set. It didn’t show up as part of the normal set. Is this a Combo Topper?
As an obscure choice, the door knob would make a cool chaser.
A possible variant? In the Croquet game, Alice’s hedgehog was red. If there is a green hedgehog, there is a decent bet that we will see a red variant.
Another possible variant. The new mold is supposed to help artists pull off some amazing designs… this is their chance to shine. The Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow Pirates figure looks great. A Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter variant or chaser would be spectacular!

Urban 8 Vinylmation Explained

Update: 10/31/11 November 11 Release Date Announced. Combo Topper ($26.95) will also be available on this same day. Great $9.95 price point!

Update: 10/11/11 Pictures of all 11 figures have now been added.

We got our first real look at Urban 8 at The Florida Project. They showed off a couple 9″ as well as several 3″. We also found the Urban 8 pins that gave up 3 more designs.

Urban 8
Price: $9.95
Release: November 11, 2011

Warrior
Maria Clapsis

This figure looks like and Indian warrior. He has a great looking head piece and wonderful markings and coloring on the body. The way the feet are painted, it appears he is standing in some brown brush. Will there be a spear accessory?

Rudos
Casey Jones

It appears to be a masked wrestler. He is blue with a squiggle of chest hair. He has a black tank top and tennis shoes. And possible flash bulbs in the ears.

Barricade
Thomas Scott

Directing traffic everywhere. The head is a clear yellow and the ears give the impression of a flashing light.

Beaded
Betsy DePedova

A new artist to the Vinylmation scene. This effort is a colorful figure full of different shapes. Flowers, dots, springs and stars.

Hot Dog
Dan Howard

Looks yummy. Though I prefer just ketchup and relish.
-MC

I like the hidden Mickey disguised as an onion! – Nick

Beatnik
Thomas Scott

This cool, cool cat has a simple black and white stripe shirt a beret and small artist-like eye glasses. He has some chin hair and a pencil mustache. The ears are painted a solid red.

Raccoon
Casey Jones

This little fellow looks happy. Maybe he saw the hotdog. It’s a purple raccoon with a bushy tail… just like the Cheshire cat’s.

Tree Frog
Robert Vann

Watch out! They are poisonous. This one has a great color green and a cool glossy finish.

Cave Painting
Thomas Scott

It looks like a painted you would see inside a cave. Different shapes and colors tell a story the artist wishes to pass down to us.

Yellow Robot
Billy Davis

The Disney Store artists have a robot series all to themselves, but the Disney Design group wanted some of their own. What job do you think this robot was built to perform?

Zombie Break Dancer
Monty Maldovan

Gold tooth, headphones cool blue shades and bling… this blue man is ready to get funky.

LE 1000

This is a great looking piece. If any of the bandaids were mixed media, I’d almost think this was a one-of-a-kind.

Oh, and the boxing gloves, besides being awesome, are removable. When you can, check out his hands underneath.

9″ Saber Tooth Tiger

$39.95
