Disneyland Annual Passholders 2011 Explained

The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

Designed by Maria Clapsis
Released July 8th
$14.95

Clearly a clear Vinylmation, this passholder exclusive looks quite different from other Little Mermaids or in fact most others at all. Utilizing the old molds, this Vinylmation has clams for ears, fish and Sebastian on its head, a starfish on its foot, a shadow of Ariel on its stomach and bubbles throughout. A very intricate piece. – Nick J

Goofy’s Sky School
Designed by Maria Clapsis
Released July 8th
$14.95

We’ve seen a few different Goofy Vinylmations come out already yet the designers continue to introduce new designs. Goofy’s ears are sky blue with the flight school bird (wearing what looks like may be goggles) in his right ear and the cloud with a bird shaped center missing on his left. The artist seemed to place Goofy inside of the plane for this Vinylmation with the window of the cockpit located on his chest and the propeller on his stomach. This is also created using the old mold. – Nick J

I’m a tin fan, but these boxes the DL APs are packaged in look great!

Big thanks to everyone who tweeted, commented, and emailed us about the news. Every once in a while our “real” jobs get in the way of 24/7 monitoring. But thanks to all our fans we always have someone close to the news! Thank you. Merci.

Update: 3/22/11 Release date of April 1st is confirmed at WDW Trading Event and on the Events pages at the Disney Vinylmation Blog. Added picture of the Matterhorn 9″. Added picture on set on display at WDW Trading Event.

Occupations Explained

Update: 3/5/11 Price is confirmed at $16.95. Junior variant (Blue or Red light) confirmed. Key chains on all juniors, confirmed.

Update: Later on 3/2/11 Disney’s Vault page put up all the Juniors for this series. Check them out below the 3″ we believe is associated with each. Warning: You might have to buy them all. Also… a variant Jr? Really??

Update: 3/2/11 We found this display at D-Street, and took some pictures. Remember that each of these 3″ figures comes with one of 30 Jrs.

In the next few days we should start seeing more from Disney about Here is the Occupations Series. So we went back and checked on the info we already had, most coming from the Vinylmations presentation at Trade City back in August of 2010.

This is a series of 10 Open Window 3″ figures. Each 3″ will come with one of three specific Jrs. That means each of the ten 3″s will have 3 Jrs associated with it, for a total of 30 Jrs and 40 total vinyl figures in this set. (Assuming no variants). Well there is something of a variant. The Policeman has 4 Jrs connected to it. Do the two lights come as a pair, or is one light a variant? That makes 31 Jrs and 41 figures total. The largest set to date! They will be released at both D-Streets on March 4th. All the juniors will have key chains on them.

One note: The backs of these vinyls aren’t very interesting. Lots of unused space. I wish they all had something like the A+ Paper Jr’s gold star on the back.

Doctor 3″

A nice clean blank vinyl with a detailed Stethoscope. Simple, smooth, and perfect for that graduation day 8 years after High School.

Bone X-Ray Jr

Looks like a black clear Jr. The skeleton arm scared me until I remembered the Doc 3″.

EKG Jr

Looks like this set is in tip-top shape.

Medical Staff Jr

The symbol of medicine. I for one and glad we progressed past snake therapy.

Policeman 3″

Anybody remember the beginning of Dragnet? Or at least the remake with Tom Hanks. That’s what this Police Shield reminds me of.

Handcuffs Jr

Book ’em. (Dan’o)

Police Dog Jr

Hope you don’t have anything illegal in your collection… he will sniff it out.

Blue Light Jr

This with the Red Light Jr represents the flashing lights on a cop car. Now, do they come together as a pair or is this a variant Jr???

Red Light Jr

This with the Blue Light Jr represents the flashing lights on a cop car. Now, do they come together as a pair or is this a variant Jr???

Judge 3″

We saw this symbol on the Occupations graphic and thought it might have been a Jr. But it’s not, it’s a 3″. So for all those Judges in your life, here’s the perfect gift.
(I still think it’s illegal)

Blind Justice Jr

Golden statue representing equal judgment for all. Notice the blindfold.

Courthouse Jr

Where the judge judges people.

Gavel Jr

Lots of power with this little hammer.

Dentist 3″

Check out this molar. Or maybe it’s some other tooth. Maybe if you give this to your dentist on your next visit he’ll use the good gas.

Dental Tools Jr

Open wide! Get ready for the pick and mirror.

Floss Jr

They know when you don’t use this.

Teeth X-Ray Jr

Beautiful smile… another Jr on a clear black Jr.

Chef 3″

This one was the hardest to determine. Check out the boiling water on the feet and the chef’s hat on the top half. Also beware of the knife on his arm.

Olive Oil Jr

Fry it up! And check out the nice pourer in the his left ear.

Pepper Mill Jr

This is peppers second Vinyl appearance.

Pan Jr

What’s cooking?
This one was just weird enough that we weren’t sure. It’s the back/bottom that finalized our name. What is that yellow thing on top? Thanks J for suggesting the name change

Call Center 3″

I used to have this job. The detail on this one is awesome. The phone pad is great. Check out the number that called. It’s a 407 area code. That’s right here in Florida. We’ll call tomorrow and check it out.

Hot Coffee Jr

I will need this Vinylmation EVERY morning. I like the steam in his head. Nice use of clear vinyl.

In Out Box Jr

You’ve got mail.

Paper Clips Jr

Lots of paper clips.

Business Suit 3″

We aren’t sure which occupation they were thinking with this one. Lawyer? Wall Street trader? Or just your regular business person.

Briefcase Jr

Lots of empty space left on this one.

PDA Jr

Now if Vinylmation could only keep my
schedule and check the internet. He’s got a little plastic pen in his ear.

Pen Set Jr

Expensive desk set.

Fire Fighter 3″

A great representation of the hat and suit of the people who save our lives.

Dalmatian Jr

What? Only 1? Where are the other 100?

Fire Hydrant Jr

I can’t remember the last time I saw a red one. Ours are gray with another color.

Fire Symbol Jr

Straight forward. I couldn’t find this exact symbol anywhere else. The main symbols I found included a ladder.

Teacher 3″

An apple a day makes the teacher happy. Especially if you study the books she gives you.

A+ Paper Jr

I wonder if it’s college ruled? Check out the back, Gold Star!
Cursive Lesson Jr

Just say “Aa”.
Then around him are “Bb” “Cc” “Dd”.
Pencil Jr

This is the one I want. It’s so charming. You can even see a little “No. 2” on his left cheeck.

IT Tech 3″

This looks awesome. The screen and keyboard are the perfect gift for that friend who is really into computers.

Finger Click Jr

The familiar icon of a finger that we all associate with the mouse.

Thumb Drive Jr

A great representation of a thumb drive.
In case you were wondering, he’s 2 Gigs.
USB Cord Jr.

I like the simplicity of this figure.

Jr. photos from the Vinylmation Blog

Animation 1 Explained

Update: 1/14/11 Disney has confirmed the chaser and 3 variants on their vault page.

Update: 1/7/10 The case came out today. Two 9″ came out – Pete’s Dragon and Beast. We also found out all the 9″ vinylmation in this set.

Update: 1/1/11 Disney revealed 3 of the Animated 1 9″ (with 3 more to come). They also revealed the “Variant” Pinocchio which confirmed that variants would start being part of series in the future. Also added a pic of the chaser (click on the mystery chaser pic)

Update: 12/31/10 The Albuquerque Disney Store has the Animated 1 set for sale. Cost is $9.95 each. The Florida D-Street store has the set displayed getting us ready for the January 7th release.

Update:
12/27/10 Changed photos to 4 spots and added the Vinylmation artists. Click photos to see full sized pic. Added Chaser rumor.

11/26/10- Recently Japan’s Disney Store released (accidentally) the figures in the upcoming Animated 1 set (Or so we’ve seen online, it might be a rumor). Destination Vinylmation has analyzed the photos and determined which characters were which.

Aladdin

From: Aladdin (1992)
Voiced by: Scott Weinger and Brad Kane
Vinylmation Artist: Eric Caszatt

One of the better “human” figures in the Vinylmation line. I think this works well, and love the little hat on the right ear! Genie 9″ with 3″ lamp and magic carpet anyone?

Alice

From: Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Voiced by: Kathryn Beaumont
Vinylmation Artist: Thomas Scott

A favorite of mine and I hope it leads to a whole line (there is already a 9″ Mad Hatter and 3″ Church Mouse set that is part of the Park 5 series announced)
Cute and straight forward.

Dodger

From: Oliver and Company (1988)
Voiced by: Billy Joel
Vinylmation Artist: Maria Clapsis

I can’t believe Joey Lawrence (Oliver) was in a Disney animated movie.

Fairy Godmother

From: Cinderella (1950)
Voiced by: Ilene Woods
Vinylmation Artist: Monty Maldovan

Ah, look at that accessory! Hopefully that wand can be held as well as it seems to be in this photo. And the artwork on the face is extraordinary. It almost looks like old school animation to me.

Marie

From: Aristocats (1970)
Voiced by: Liz English
Vinylmation Artist: Casey Jones

Interesting choice to put the accessory hair bow on this one, instead of just painting it onto the head. I like this version of Marie better than her Big Eyes figure, however, since we already have Marie in Big Eyes, I wish they could give us a different animated character and save her for down the road.

Mushu

From: Mulan (1998)
Voiced by: Eddie Murphy
Vinylmation Artist: Lin Shih

Interesting choice, expanding the body to fit instead of trying to paint a skinny body. Could this have used a “neck” accessory? (I love “neck” accessories!) But we already know from Trade City back in August, Mushu will be the first Vinylmation to have a tail accessory. And come on! They give Marie the hair bow, but then draw Mushu’s horns in front of his ears instead of sticking horns onto the head? It looks kind of confusing.

Peter Pan

From: Peter Pan (1953)
Voiced by: Bobby Driscoll
Vinylmation Artist: Monty Maldovan

Another absolutely perfect Vinylmation. Love the Hat! Love Tink in the left ear. The face is a perfect representation of Pan’s child-like features and fits onto the Vinylmation just right. (M.C. hates the face) What do you think? It’s been hit or miss with “human” representations of faces onto Vinylmation, but I think the artists are figuring out how to use the Mickey canvas.

Philoctetes

From: Hercules (1997)
Voiced by: Danny DeVito
Vinylmation Artist: Eric Caszatt

It’s always sunny in Olympus? Short and stubby, he fits the canvas well. The big feet as opposed to the small hooves from the movie are a little odd. Will we see an accessory tail on the back?

Pinocchio

From: Pinocchio (1940)
Voiced by: Dickie Jones
Vinylmation Artist: Thomas Scott

No long nose, but he does have donkey ears! I for one am glad they did not add an accessory long nose.

Update: 1/1/11 Disney announced that there was a variant version on Pinocchio without the Donkey Ears (as well as tail we assume). Check it out.

Prince Naveen (as a Frog)

From: The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Voiced by: Bruno Campos
Vinylmation Artist: Thomas Scott

Looks like a croc, but only the Frog Prince could have a sly expression like this. This one seems a little forced to me… I would not have minded having the frog, or frogs, painted onto the body as whole frogs with a swamp background painted on. Maybe even put Ray, the lightning bug, in one of the ears.

Quasimodo

From: The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
Voiced by: Tom Hulce
Vinylmation Artist: Monty Maldovan

I think it works. Don’t you?

Mystery Chaser

From: Who Knows?
Voiced by: Any of a number of people!

First obvious note: NO PRINCESSES! Will they have their own line? Will they be part of this series? Maybe there will be Princess as a chaser in each set? Or maybe there will be a combo pack (like the Park series with the Mickey’s) with a Princess with each series?

There are still lots of movies not represented – Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp, and The Little Mermaid to name just a few. It also seems like they are sticking to traditional animation, nothing from Pixar in either series.

Update: 1/1/11 Click on Mystery Chaser pic to reveal Chaser!

What do you think? Comment and start the conversation!

Update: 12/27/10 The latest rumor is that the chaser will come in 4 color schemes, only one per case, so there will be 4 chasers, and you won’t be able to complete the set with only one case!

Update: 1/14/11 Disney has confirmed the chaser and 3 variants on their vault page. Click on the following images to see the variants.

The Disney Blog posted this picture earlier this month as part of the reward for “like”ing their new facebook page. We think it’s Simba, but there was no Simba in this series, so is he the Mystery Chaser? a Combo pack? or park of another Animated Series.

Simba!

Update: 12/27/10 Several people are reporting both confirmation of Simba and confirmation of the fact that he’s a combo pack like “Plane Crazy” Mickey and Park 4.

At Trade City 2010 three figures from this series were shown. Dodger, Fairy Godmother, and Mushu as pictured below.

Update: 1/1/11 Animated 1 9″. The first two will be released on January 7th with the rest of the Animated 1 set.

Pete and Elliot

From: Pete’s Dragon (1977)
Voiced by: Elliot (Charlie Callas)
Pete (Sean Marshall)
LE: 1200

This one looks awesome and I love the detail. I also love the fact that the size makes sense! The giant Dragon is a 9″ and the little boy, Pete, is a 3″.

One interesting note is that as part of the Animated 1 series you would think that everything would be animated. In Pete’s Dragon the only character who was animated was Elliot (the dragon), so Pete wasn’t animated and thus seems odd to include.

The Beast

From: Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Voiced by: Robby Benson
LE: 1000

Big, Beautiful, Brilliant! (What more do we need to say?)

The following will be out later in the year (as they are trying to spread the 9 inch releases so they don’t get to be too much of a burden on our wallets)

Hyacinth Hippo

From: Fantasia (1940)
LE: 1200

This is another first in Vinylmation! An accessory that isn’t made of vinyl! A fabirc tutu. It’s so unique that I might just bend my “No 9 inch” rule.
It’s the cutest Hippo I’ve ever seen!

Merlin

From: The Sword and the Stone (1963)
Voiced by: Karl Swenson
LE: 1000

Genie

From: Aladdin (1992)
Voiced by: Robin Williams
LE: 1200

Bolt

From: Bolt (2008)
Voiced by: John Travolta
LE: 1000

Only figure in the animated series that is a digital animation.

Willie the Whale

From: Make Mine Music (1946) “The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met”
Voiced by: Nelson Eddy
LE: 1000

Information from various Disney Sources.

Robots Vinylmation Explained

Here is you look at both the 3″ and 9″ figures in the Robots series. Robots is a set of 11 blind box Vinylmation with 1 Mystery Chaser and 3 limited edition 9″ figures. Robots is exclusive to Disney Stores and was designed by artists Oscar Mendez, Jim Valeri, Enrique Pita, Gerald Mendez and Marcella Lau.
Release Date: July 22, 2011
Retail: $9.95/box and $238/case
Atomic Bot 3″
by Oskar Mendez

This fiery figure has a cool skull-like plate on it’s face.
Communication Bot 3″
by Oskar Mendez

This one is a bit more plain than the others in the set. It has a Tron-like disc on the body. It’s colors seem to represent crash test dummy more than communicator.

Cranky Bot 3″
by Jim Valeri

Disney says that even Robots can get a little cranky. This guy has some cool detail. Clear ears with light bulbs, one broken. Clear arms with scratched up paint. Some chips on the belly and a chipped tooth.

“Best in the set.” – Nick

El Elektro Bot 3″
by Enrique Pita

A Mexican Wrestler style Robot. With his lightning bolts all over and flames in the ears, this guy has a lot of spark. The colors are great on this one.

Ignition Bot 3″
by Gerald Mendez

He has a couple bolts in his ears and screws all over his body and arms. A big red on / off button decorates his body. He has a cool steel color scheme.

Love Bot 3″
by Enrique Pita

Disney would like you to know that Robots have feelings too! With a big grin and a warm heart, this red and black robot is ready for love. Or does he use his innocent face to steal other’s hearts? He has big bolts in his ears and pac man shaped eyes.

Radio Bot 3″
by Enrique Pita

It looks like he has dials for eyes and little antenna actually attached to his head. Some mesh ears to catch or send radio waves? And what looks like speakers on the body.

Security Bot 3″
by Gerald Mendez

He has a clear head and few cool features. First, the wavy brown lines across the forehead look like hair. The bulbs for eyes look good too. I also like the wave representing the mouth.
Steampunk Bot 3″
by Gerald Mendez

We first called this Robot C3-PRobot. But toss some gears on and Disney has yet another Steampunk figure. He has clear ears with some bulbs painted in.

Tesla Bot 3″
by Jim Valeri

Disney calls this one “the mad scientist of the bunch.” Ya, he has some nifty coils in his ears, but can he play “Secrets” by One Republic?

UltraSonic Bot 3″
by Enrique Pita

This is a busy design. It looks like this Robot can DJ you next party. Some turntables on the body with volume faders. You can see the sound waves all around this figure.

Mystery Chaser

9″ Robot Vinylmation
Release Date: July 22, 2011
Retail: $39.95
LE: 700

Here is a peak at the backs:

Reflector Bot 9″
by Oskar Mendez

LE 700

This Robot really shines.
With cool aqua colors, the eyes remind me of webbed feet.

Salvage Bot 9″
by Jim Valeri

LE 700

An amazing design with a Robot in the “cockpit” drawn in the head. He is at the controls. Another great feature is the satellite dishes in the ears. They have a neat shadow effect.

Silly Bot 9″
by Marcella Lau

LE 700

This guy scares me. The name describes the crazy face. He has some wacky piston like designs in the body and a big metal cap with antennas. This is probably to keep the aliens from reading his brain.
