PHOTOS REPORT: Disneyland Resort 10/23/17 (Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Mountain Range Appears, Splitsville, New Dress Shop, ETC.)

WDWNT reporter Conner Purzycki brings us back to the Disneyland Resort for a long-overdue photo report from The Happiest Place on Earth.

Rockin’ Galaxy’s Edge

The first pieces of sculpted metal rock-work on top of the show buildings in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have appeared.

 width=

From the Mickey and Friends parking structure, the two attraction buildings fill most of the skyline.

 width=

Walls have sealed in most of the “Battle Escape” attraction at this point.

 width=

 width=

 width=

Despite the height, the highest points will only be visible in the park from the back of Frontierland and Toontown, both of which surprisingly blend nicely with the mountain’s tallest peaks.

 width=

This is probably our last look inside “Battle Escape” at the Disneyland Resort before the whole building is enclosed.

You Can Always Go… Downtown

Tarps are on on Tortilla Joe’s facing the Disneyland Monorail station.

 width=

Work continues on Splitsville, set to open before the end of 2017.

 width=

 width=

 width=

Between Sprinkles and D-Street, the VR experience “Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire” will open on January 5th, 2018.

 width=

I guess January 5th is technically still a day before the traditional holiday season ends…

 width=

Not to be outdone by Orlando, Downtown Disney Anaheim now has the Disney Dress Shop, selling all of the very popular Disney Parks dresses released this year.

 width=

Ridemakerz is operating with adjusted hours right now, for some reason.

 width=

One of the former Disney information booths just outside of the esplanade is now a Haagen-Dazs location, because money.

Welcome to Disneyland

 width=

A construction crane looms behind the Sailing Ship Columbia and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

 width=

River Belle Terrace is being converted into a full-fledged table service restaurant, removing all of the leftover setup from when it was a quick service eatery.

 width=

Livin’ on the Edge

 width=

We now journey to the back of Frontierland and Critter Country to check out Galaxy’s Edge from the other side.

 width=

Some of the rock-work will peek over, but none of it will look out of place, which is nice.

 width=

The real question is where will Disneyland set up the queue to enter the land? Will it be here, or towards the center entrance behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? They have less than two years to figure it out.

 width=

 width=

A peek through the walls gives us a great look at that newly installed mountain range.

2019 can’t get here soon enough…

REVIEW: Maple Popcorn Now Available at the Magic Kingdom

Tokyo Disneyland move over, because Walt Disney World is getting into the freshly-popped flavored popcorn game.

 width=

Maple Popcorn is now available at the cart adjacent to Westward Ho in Frontierland. You can buy a single serving, acquire it in a souvenir bucket, and even refill any refillable Walt Disney World popcorn bucket for just $1.50.

 width=

Of course I had to have some! So how was it? I LOVED IT!

 width=

It may look like caramel corn, but I enjoyed it much more than I do that. The coating is thinner, so it lacks the often plastic-like chewiness of caramel corn. The maple popcorn has a light maple syrup flavor which is just perfect (in my opinion). Yes sure to try it the next time you are at the park!

 width=

Hopefully more will be on the way (Epcot offers 3 flavors at the cart near Imagination), but this is a great start.

BREAKING: The Notorious Banjo Brothers & Bob Act to Conclude at the Magic Kingdom

After 16 years of entertaining families, it seems like 10/1/16, the 45th anniversary of Magic Kingdom, will be the last time The Notorious Banjo Brothers & Bob will ever perform in Frontierland.

As with recent cuts such as Scoop Sanderson, it seems to be related to the start of fiscal 2017 for the company and the financial fallout from a rather slow summer season in general.

Notorious Banjo Bros and Bob

Be sure to catch their final shows at the following times on Saturday, October 1st:

11:00 A.M., 12:20 P.M, 1:20 P.M., 2:05 P.M. 3:30 P.M., 4:20 P.M. & 5:20 P.M.

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 1.04.11 PM

As of yesterday, the interactive queue at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom was turned on. That being said, it is still not officially open and some stations and effects are still yet to be turned on. We have video of the working elements in the queue including the detonators, the large air fans, and the auto-cannary machines. Take a look:

Since it was announced a few months ago, we have wondered exactly what will take place in the interactive queue for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom. Well, wonder no more. In this video, Disney Imagineers take us behind the scenes at Big Thunder and show us the props and backstory that make up the new interactive queue:

So, what do you think?

Work Continues on “Explosive” Interactive Queue at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

As work continues on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad interactive queue at the Magic Kingdom, we can see more and more of what exactly we can expect while we wait in line. Let’s take a look at the latest progress:

These signs were installed recently

The signs are pretty funny

Signs saying “Explosives” have been added to the large cabinets in the queue

Props that guests can blow-up are being installed on the mountain

I somehow managed to get a closer shot while in a moving train…

I don’t know about you, but I’m really excited to blow things up while I wait to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!

Conner Purzycki’s 1/17/13 DLR Photo Report

I was at the Disneyland Resort this afternoon and captured some newsworthy photos from all around the resort to share.

A giant crane is in place right over Big Thunder.

It looks bigger in person

Work on the center Fantasmic fountain is underway

New Orleans Bayou Bash has already been setup getting ready for the event kickoff tomorrow

Very temporary looking speaker setup

Mark Twain still in dry dock for its annual refurbishment

Christmas decorations still coming down in New Orleans Square

Blue sky and no more snow on the castle

Now for the juicy stuff, Fantasy Faire

A new structure has sprung up where previously a path led to Fantasyland

A closer look at that new structure

Over in DCA, it seems the Hyperion Bridge which crosses over Buena Vista Street was painted overnight to a new darker beige color

I don’t particularly mind the color change, I’m just curious why?

Over in Cars Land, one side of Mater’s is being resurfaced

Over in Flo’s the giant rotisserie out front has been removed

Odd to see this in the middle of the day

Thanks for reading
