From D23: Marvel Checklist

There have been several rumors flying around about the upcoming Marvel set from Disney. At D23 instgrammer mymousecapades seems to have solved all the riddles. Here is the checklist for the Marvel set. It includesall 11 figures we were able to deduce from the side of the box, along with a Mystery Chaser, 2 variants, and a Combo Pack Hawkeye.

No idea what the combo pack means, but it’s cool they included Hawkeye, completing the movie roster.

I’m also interested in the variants. The obvious ones seem to be a greener Hulk and a more classic Spiderman (that Future Foundation outfit is an interesting choice for the first round).

What do you think the variants will be?

Also, we are doing a lot of coverage of D23 from our phones so be sure to follow us on twitter at vinylmationnews and Destination Vinylmation on instagram for updates this weekend.

Whedon says Avengers: Age of Ultron Will Not Include Hank Pym (Ant-Man)

Avengers2Banner

Whedon has some big things in store for Avengers: Age of Ultron. The biggest thing? No Hank Pym (Ant-Man) the creator of Ultron.

How can a movie about the homicidal A.I. Ultron, created by Hank Pym not involve his original creator? Well Joss had some things to say:

“We’re crafting our own version of it where his origin comes more directly from The Avengers we already know about. It’s a little bit darker than the other film because Ultron is in the house. There’s a science fiction theme that wasn’t there in the other one. Ultron is definitely something that evolves, so we’re going to get together a couple of different iterations. Nothing can be translated exactly as it was from the comics; particularly Ultron.”

Compelling points of course, but if not Pym then who? Well Tony Stark or Bruce Banner are both geniuses, so technically either one of them could be responsible for the creation of Ultron. My money is on Tony Stark, as he already has his own A.I. in the films, Jarvis.

Talking more about the movie and the sheer scope of it all, Whedon dropped that Hawkeye will have an increased role in the film:

“It’s very much a global Avengers film. A lot of the movie has to do with their place not just in America, but the world. Part of the fun for me, definitely this time around, is writing Hawkeye. He did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and had to walk around all scowly for most of the movie so now it’s nice to actually have the character there and see him interact with the other guys.”

More character information about a beloved comic book character like Hawkeye is always a good thing.

Whedon did take the time to alleviate a growing concern since the title announcement, a Marvel Comic event called Age of Ultron recently took place, and Whedon wanted to set the record straight:

“Well, because there was a book called ‘Age of Ultron’ quite recently, a lot of people have assumed that is what we’re doing, but that is not the case. We’re doing our own version of the origin story for Ultron. In the origin story, there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed that he will be in the mix. He’s not. We’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside.”

Wow, so that’s everything we know so far. How do you feel about these announcements?

Guardians of the Galaxy Cast Revealed at SDCC’13

GotG2

During the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy was fully revealed. Up until recently, only Chris Pratt was officially on board as Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, but the rest of the cast “officially” appeared in person. They include Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Karen Gillian (with newly shaved head) as Nebula, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Benecio Del Toro as The Collector, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Djimon Hounsou as Korath.

The only one left to be announced is who will voice Rocket Raccoon. Many sources lead toward David Tennant being the VA for the crazy Raccoon.

Since the public now knows all about the Avengers and the existence of superheroes, Agent Phil Coulson has put together a small group of agents from the worldwide law enforcement organization known as the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division, or more easily said, S.H.I.E.L.D. Their mission is to protect the ordinary from the extraordinary by investigating all that is strange and unknown around the world.

Marvel Studios Has Movies Planned Through 2021

Marvel-Studios-LogoMarvel Studios President Kevin Feige has come out and said that Marvel Studios now has movies planned through 2021. We already have three release dates for unknown movies — two in 2016 and one in 2017 — but now we have more to look forward to. Some characters rumored to have movies in development include Doctor Strange and Black Panther.

Feige continued by saying that the knew The Avengers was going to be a success so they had to continue planning for the future. Marvel Studios now has the job of showing that they have other characters in their 50 year history aside from The Avengers that can do well and be loved by everyone.

With Phase 2 now in process with Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 and Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, it was time to look into the future. Phase 3 will launch with the much-anticipated Ant-Man movie in 2015. Marvel Studios is planning on being in Phase 4 by the year 2021.

With the much-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, it is clear that Marvel Studios is not afraid to dive into the huge library of characters. The question is, will they hold up as well as The Avengers has? What characters do you want to see Marvel Studios develop a movie for?

With the Disney D23 Expo this weekend, Marvel is expected to announce some big projects and we can’t wait to see what they have in store.

Spotlight On: Cesar Diaz’s Custom Iron Man with Packaging

Destination Vinylmation: What inspired this custom creation?
Cesar Diaz: Iron Man 3 of course. For me this is the most anticipated movie this year. I’ve always been a big Star Wars toy collector. I have hundreds of carded figures and I love the look the toy brings when it’s carded. I knew I wanted to do a Iron Man Mark 42 suit in honor of the movie but I felt it wasn’t enough just making a custom vinyl, I had to step it up a notch. So I started researching how to make custom card backs and to my surprise I found out that a lot of people do Star Wars toy restoration. I got very fascinated how they do this and hence began my journey to make my own card back.

DV: Was the packaging difficult to create?
CD: 90% of the work is done in Photoshop  Luckily I know Photoshop pretty well so no problem there. The challenge was to find a bubble blister that would fit a Vinylmation. I never realized how chubby Vinylmations are until I actually tried to make it fit in the bubble. I did a a lot of trial and error until I got it just right.

DV: Are you excited about the results?
CD: I’m really happy how this piece turned out and this has to be one of my favorites. I’ve received so many PMs to buy this piece so to make things fair I’ve decided to post it on Vinylmation Exchange: Bid Wars. Later in the week I will post on my FB page www.facebook.com/mycustomations when it will go up for auction.

Assmebling More then Mickey Under the Sea?

Last night as we recorded I was pondering over the extra coding in the recently reviewed placeholder text for Marvel and Little Mermaid. As a reminder, this is what it says,

“The first Marvel Vinylmation collaboration, Series of 11 Vinylmation
with 1 Chaser, [Characters]: STD CHAR ADULT – MM & MN, Captain
America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Iron Man,”

“Little Mermaid Series, Series of 11 Vinylmation with 1 Chaser,
[Characters]: STD CHAR ADULT – MM & MN, Ariel, Eric, Scuttle,
Sebastian, Flounder”

STD seems to mean standard, with CHAR meaning character and ADULT as a size maybe? But that’s not what was interesting, to me what was interesting was the part that was different from the Park 13? placeholder text. In the Park text after ADULT says “MICKEY” not “MM & MN”. So what does that mean?

I think it means that the Marvel series and the Little Mermaid series will contain BOTH Mickey platform and Minnie platform figures. We just got word that they are releasing the Park 12 set which has mixed genders in the Contemporary set, why not do that with full series?

What do you think? Do you think it’s early enough in the Minnie platform run to start including them in full 12 series sets? What characters from the Marvel and Little Mermaid universes could use a dress and a bow? I kind want to see Doctor Doom in one.

Episode 122 DHS Clapboard

Ep. 122 DHS Clapboard

This week we cover a lot of news by Disney including the extension of the Bakery series with a new twist, the next installment of Disney Afternoon, a few LE combos for Park 12 and the turnarounds for Muppets 3. There are also rumblings about a new case size for Park 13, a Little Mermaid set and a long awaited Marvel series.
