Spotlight On: Mike Vetrone’s Aladdin Series

Mike Vetrone recently sent us photos of his stunning Aladdin set of custom Vinylmation. This already sold out, but take a look and contact Mike for your own custom if you like what you see.

Last week I released my custom Aladdin set of 12 figures.  The set included Iago, Old Man Jafar, the Sultan, Genie, Palace Guard, Abu, Aladdin, Jasmine, Rajah, the Cave of Wonders, the Golden Scarab, and the “chaser” is a figure I call “A Whole New World”  The chaser features Aladdin and Jasmine on their magic carpet ride.  The carpet is a sculpted piece that is made to look like They are actually sitting on it.  Aladdin is one of my favorite movies of all time so this set was a complete blast to make.  A big thanks goes out to everyone who bought one for making it a complete success!

Spotlight On: Mike Vetrone Summer 2013

This week we got a nice message from Mike about the things he’s been doing this summer. Check it out:

“First off, I will be heading out to Florida for the Villains event and will be bringing a bunch of my work to share with everyone.  I can’t wait to meet all kinds of people out there!  Included in the customs I will be bringing are 3 new sets.  The first one will be my custom 12 piece Aladdin set, next is my (in progress) 19 piece Mickey Mouse set with a different Mickey to represent each of the new shorts that have been released weekly, and the third set is a custom set I am making with another artist and great friend Ryan Branoff.  The details are still under wraps, but all I can say is that it is different to anything I have done in the past and pays homage to a previous Disney-made Park series. I look forward to seeing you guys in September!”

Spotlight On: Mike Vetrone’s Poison Apple Custom

Mike Vetrone sent us a few photos of and a few words on his most recent creation:

“I wanted to share with you one of my most recent works.  It is a 9 in Bad Apple from Snow White.  I wanted to really emphasize the “poison” on the apple so I sculpted it!

This was a total challenge for me, but it was a great learning experience and I love the outcome.  On the back it featured the old hag’s hand holding the apple and the “body” of the Vinylmation is her sleeve.  On the front of the body it featured Snow White and the Prince which acts as foreshadowing.  Enjoy!”

Spotlight On: Custom Vinylmation Artist Mike Vetrone

Artist Mike Vetrone just sent us pictures of his newest creation. My jaw dropped. This depiction of Beauty and the Beast is simply stunning. I love the added touch on the wheels. Take a look and let us know what you think…

Spotlight On Mike Vetrone’s Latest Customs

The first one I would like to share with you is Gizmoduck.  I did this piece for a friend of mine who is making an entire duck tales set from different custom artists.  It has been a really awesome project to be apart of.  I wanted to make it seem like a comic book super hero.

Then there was the issue of the wheel.  I sketched up a bunch of options using the mickey mold feet, but decided that it would be best to just make it myself.  I am very happy with the result.  It is one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever made.

Next is my Magic Carpet 9 in.  This was a commission.  The collector wanted the magic carpet to be the main focus and then let my mind run wild.  I am a huge Genie fan and have an army of 100 Park 11 Genies.  I had to include him.  One of my favorite ways he is shown in the movie is at the end in the moon.

I thought this would work perfectly.  On the back I put the “mountain” inside the cave of wonders that the lamp is on.  Another one of my favorite scenes in the movie.  It was fun getting to make a vinyl for one of my absolute favorite movies.

Lastly, I made a Furry Friends Abu for the Light it Up Blue Auctions going on at Vinylmation Exchange: Bid Wars.

I love in the movie when Abu has the red gem reflecting in his eyes.  I think its adorable haha.  I made the gem blue to play off of the theme.

Spotlight On: Mike Vetrone’s Snow White

Mike Vetrone is always coming up with great pieces of custom Vinylmation. We spoke to him recently about his latest Snow White figure.

“Thanks guys! This piece was commissioned by someone as a gift for their mother’s birthday who has a huge Snow White collection. I was told her favorite scene was the wishing well. I wanted to make sure that went on front.”

“As I brainstormed and did some research in watching the movie over again I realized I could easily blend the scene into a brick wall that I could put the magic mirror on. The Old Hag is one of my personal favorite villains and I thought it would be interesting to have the Evil Queen looking into the mirror to show the Old Hag. There was an immense amount of work that went into this piece, but I feel it really paid off. I am extremely happy with the way it turned out.”

Spotlight On: Mike Vetrone’s Sparky Custom

Artist Mike Vetrone wanted to share his latest custom… a 3 inch Sparky from Frankenweenie custom using the Whiskers and Tales platform.

“Sparky is one of my favorite characters and I had a ton of fun sculpting the bolt and working with the arms. This is absolutely one of my favorite 3 inch pieces I have ever made.”

Mike also told us that he is planning something “HUGE” to enter into DV’s March Vinylmadness contest. Everyone has until February 14th to enter, so keep those customs coming!
