Mickey’s Circus- Robots 3

Disney Store announced Robots 3. It is a twist on the first two sets. This one, is all Disney characters as robots! It will still be a 12 figure blind box series. Both MC and I are super excited to see where this one goes. We also love the character selection so far with the first two figures shown to us not being a part of the Fab 5.

Steambot Willie

On November 19th this whistling pile of nuts and bolts will sail it’s way into Disney Stores and Online.

It is part of the Robots 3 collection and has an edition size of 1000 and is $69.95. The main design is of Pete in his Steamboat Willie outfit. That hat is amazing for a 9 inch. it looks an elevator door to me. There is also the peg leg feature in the right foot. In the center is a window where we see Mickey Mouse steering the robot with the classic Steamboat Willie wheel. I do love the idea of Robots 3, I’m just hard pressed to spring for 9 inches these days, but if it goes into a Vinylmation Madness like sale down the road, it will be on my shelf. I wish this was a 3 inch in the collection instead, because I truly enjoy the design.

Disney Character Robots Release: November 19

The Disney Store decided to attempt a little reboot of the Robots series. They announced back at Mickey’s Circus how Robots 3 will be Disney Characters as robots. Now, we have a release date for the series of November 19 at Disney Stores. On Friday, the Disney Vinylmation Blog reveled 4 never before seen designs.

The artist(s) seemed to have put a lot of though in decided what defining characteristically or themes from each character to put into the designs. Minnie has some pink tones throughout and keeps her bow. She has a Mickey head at her core and has yellow on her feet representing the heels she never leaves behind. It wouldn’t be Winnie the Pooh without a tummy full of honey! I absolutely love that feature. But the coolest (and not just because he’s one of my favorite characters) design feature in any of these is the claw drawn onto the body of the Little Green Man from Toy Story. He also gets an antenna and the Pizza Planet logo. Grumpy, a favorite of the DS Artists, still has his trademark beard drawn on, but it is almost sucked into a hole on his belly and has wires wrapped around and through it. I liked the concept when this was announced, but was skeptical. I really hope they give me a Donald Duck and I’ll call this set a win! Here is a look at the Tigger and White Rabbit we saw previewed at Mickey’s Circus.

Robots 3 Sticker Shock

Robots 3 was released today at Disney Stores and Online and it wouldn’t be a Disney Vinylmation release without some surprises now would it?

The 9″ Steambot Willie was featured on the Vinylmation Blog a week ago with a $69.95 price tag, already a bit high for a solo nine inch, but not unprecedented. Well, when it was released today, it actually had a 79.95 price tag attached to it.

I had hoped we were past these ridiculously high prices on solo nine inch figures. They tried it a few times to heavy backlash and seemingly low sales and have seemed to drop back down to manageable prices. But now they are giving $80 a try… any takers? Or will this be seen at next year’s Vinylmation madness sale? The LE is 1000 and here is a look at the back in case you have not seen.

The 3″ blind boxes were also released today. While we have seen the set by now, chaser and all, we had not seen the price tag. Disney Store decided to release this series at a $12.95 price point.

Not shocking for Vinylmation in general, as we are used to that price at the parks. However, the Disney Store blind box products are normally $9.95. So for a set that I was only on the fence about, but leaning toward buying at $10 a pop, this is too much and I now will spend my money elsewhere.

One last thing… there is an interesting note in the ad campaign banner I received in the email from the Disney Store today. The phrase “works with light-up base” appears. It is very interesting to see Disney promoting the base in general and for use with other figures. Whether they actually kept the base in mind while designing this series or just thought about it afterword, would be an interesting question.
