Spotlight On: Custom Vinylmation Artist Cesilie

Destination Vinylmation: A long time ago we featured some of your work, but I honestly do not think we ever posted the finished sports players. I love the sculpted hats!

Cesilie: Thanks! They were fun to create and I have a few more hats sitting around waiting to be… drafted to a team 😉

DV: USA Mickey is all over your Facebook page. Did you have any challenges creating the rustic look on him?

Cesilie: My mom is the mastermind behind the antiquing process. When I created my vintage Minnie she suggested we give them a lil bit of something extra. Since I’m all about the vintage feel and look I thought giving them a bit of brown would make them look sort of wooden. It’s actually a really easy thing to do.

DV: Oswald! How long did it take you after seeing Disney Easter Bunny to decide to make this?

Cesilie: Literally as soon as I saw the leaked photos of the Easter Donald vinyl I screamed “OSWALD!!!!”. I’ve been wanting to make an Oswald since I started doing my vinyls… For me he’s such an under rated and under appreciated Disney character- after all if it wasn’t for Oswald being taken away there would’ve been no Mickey!

My motto’s always been “It may be big because of the mouse but it’s because of the loss of the rabbit.”. When I was able to go to Disneyland and pick up some of the Easter Bunnies I just knew they would be perfect for an Oswald 🙂

DV: Is Facebook still the best place to contact you and see your work? Do you still do commissioned pieces?

It is! Facebook.com/MoDoodleDesigns. I still do commissioned pieces! I’m working on an Avengers set right now as well as some Phantom of the Opera figures. I’ve also opened up my art mediums to other vinyl platforms like dunnys and kidrobots.

Spotlight On: Custom Vinylmation Artist Jorge Castilla

Jorge Castilla of RedVirtue Vinylmation Arts is best known for his line of Star Ducks line of customs. Well, it was time to catch up once again with Jorge and he has updated Star Ducks with new flavors and has also just created a new design based on the Stop and Go sign above D-Street.

Destination Vinylmation: What made you think of designing this D-Street icon?
Jorge: Well I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a great “urban” design. You and I have agreed in the past that the Urban series has been pretty wishy-washy in the delivery department. I wanted to come up with something that yelled “why haven’t you come up with this, Disney?” No disrespect to the artists they generally do a wonderful job, especially with all the other series’. But man that urban series hurts to even acknowledge sometimes. My favorite set is Urban #4. There were so many great original designs in it. Big Teeth, Blocks, Heart Broken, Tin Mouse, and Yellow Splattered remain some of my all time favorite vinylmations in my collection. But it has me scratching my head why I haven’t experienced more amazing designs in the series. Urban is a theme with so much freedom that the other series’ don’t have, but it’s seldom tapped into. So far I’ve designed “Lonesome Ghostbuster Mickey,” which juxtaposed The Lonesome Ghost cartoon with the 80’s blockbuster, Ghostbusters. I’ve also made the Star Ducks Cafe vinylmations that gave a Disney spin to a popular coffee brand. Making “character” based vinylmations kinda seems like something that if you make it Disney will eventually do it too if they haven’t already. So I’ve pretty much avoided making character-based vinyls because I want my customs to remain to have value, and if I make a character and Disney makes that character later I feel that custom may lose some of it’s appeal. So I really take joy in trying to create vinyls that will likely not be made, but still have that Disney flare to them. Like the Grape Soda Bottle custom vinylmation. It isn’t a character but it’s still Disney/Pixar. I mean we all collect Vinylmations because they are Disney themed right? Sorry for the tangent. When thinking of “what to make next” the D-Street icon seemed like one of those obvious choices to do. Just about everyone who collects Vinylmations recognize the icon.

DV: The hand on “Stop” is brilliant. Was the molded hand the idea from the start?
Jorge: Most definitely. It’s another reason why I wanted to do it. I didn’t think anyone had tried tackling it yet and I figured it would either be a long time before Disney does it themselves if at all because of that over-sized hand. I don’t think they would want to invest on making a new hand mold just to use it once. They’ve made claw-hand molds but so far it’s been used twice: Lobster and Cancer. But with the D-Street “stop” icon there really isn’t much use for that mold afterwards which may not be a lucrative investment for them.

DV: Did you have any challenges with these designs? If so, what and how did you overcome them?
Jorge: It took me a little while to figure out what to make the hand out of. My first initial test was with bake-hardening clay. But it seemed that when I painted the baked clay the paint would stay tacky when I applied it to the hand. Luckily I found a great alternative at the hardware store that is very strong and stays dry when you paint it.

DV: Is this set for sale?
Jorge: There are going to be seven sets. They will each be put up on auction on ebay one by one. Each comes with a cool over-sized artist card featuring both “Stop n Go” Mickeys. The third set is already up for auction!

DV: How many times have you ignored the Stop signal and went into D-Street anyway? (We won’t tell)
Jorge: All the time!

DV: Can you hint to any designs swimming around in your head right now?
Jorge: Definitely. There will be a “Marshmellow Mess” Lonesome Ghostbuster Mickey in the future that comes with a pretty cool accessory. I’m currently testing out a variant design for the Grape Soda Bottle vinylmation. Star Ducks is getting new flavors this month too – Strawberries & Cream, and Caramel! There’s also a Peppermint Mocha flavor already in circulation for the Holidays. On the more urban side of things I’m currently working on vinyls that are very Disney but very non-character specific. I wish I could say more this early because I’m very excited about them. But we’ll have to wait till next time.

Spotlight On: Custom Vinylmation Artist Annemarie Brown

You know Annemarie Brown from her various speculation articles on our website including Park Starz and Furry Friends, but did you know she is an exceptional custom Vinylmation artist? We recently talked with Annemarie about a couple of her creations.

Destination Vinylmation: How long have you been creating custom Vinylmation?

Annemarie: I began fairly recently, I made Roger Rabbit this summer and he was my first.

DV: In that short time, how many have you done?

AM: I’ve done about six, and I’m currently working on a new set.

DV: Why did you pick Roger Rabbit as your first custom?

AM: Roger Rabbit has been my favorite Disney character since I was a kid, I have an entire room in my house devoted to him. It’s actually rather impressive, if I do say so myself. So as soon as I picked up my first CYO Vinylmation I knew it would be Roger, there was never a doubt.

DV: How long did Roger take to create?

AM: Roger didn’t take me very long, maybe a couple hours. Once I got his design on the mold the painting went rather quickly.

DV: What was the most difficult part about making this character?

AM: Since it was my first one, I was kind of flying blind. Everything was a bit of an experiment. His hair and cotton tail were extra pieces I had to form and stick on, and I just used glue, which has been working fine so far. I considered sculpting the ears but I wanted to utilize the area of the vinyl as much as I could.

DV: Your Peter and the Wolf has an extraordinary amount of characters and detail packed into it, yet it doesn’t looked overcrowded. How much planing went into creating this custom?

AM: I’m extremely proud of Peter and the Wolf, he’s definitely been a labor of love. At first I considered doing a 3″ figure, but I quickly realized it was going to be impossible to include all the characters since I was hand-painting it, so I switched to a 9″ to get all the detail. First I plan everything out two-dimensionally so I can be sure everything will fit where I want it to. I knew I’d put Sasha the Bird in the ear, since he was the only flying character. Ivan the Cat and Sonia the Duck had a playful relationship in the film, so I wanted to be sure to incorporate that into their design and expressions.

With the Wolf, I considered just doing a 3″ figure to go along with Peter, but I realized the Wolf needed to be larger, and he wouldn’t have looked as menacing in the squat Vinylmation form, so I decided to paint him in full glory, sneaking up on Peter from behind.

DV: What is the most rewarding part about creating custom Vinylmation?

AM: For me, it’s being able to create characters and moments that may not ever be created. I knew the odds of getting a Peter and the Wolf Vinylmation figure were slim, and I wanted one, so I made it for myself!

Annemarie wanted to share this Youtube video featuring a turnaround of her Peter and the Wolf

DV: Do you have any tips to pass onto other custom artists?

AM: Everyone has their own method, but I would recommend designing/drawing everything out beforehand, it will save you time in the long run. But more importantly, create what you like, since you’re going to be looking at it for awhile while you’re making it. You don’t want to be stuck in the middle of making something you don’t care about.

DV: Thank you for all your work and for sharing these custom with our readers.

AM: Thank you for sharing it, and for all you guys do!

Spotlight On: Custom Vinylmation Artist Are-Jay

On today’s Spotlight we feature the talents of Californian artist, and appearently Dole Whip fan, Are-Jay. And I’m sure after you check out all his customs, you will soon be a fan of his.

Destination Vinylmation: Were you into creating artwork before custom vinylmation?
Are-Jay: Yes! I have been creating art for all my life. I remember going door to door selling my drawings while I was still in elementary school. Comic book art was my passion for such a long time until I began customizing various vinyl figures about 4 years ago. Prior to Vinylmations, I created custom Symbiotes, Mighty Muggs, and Minimates!

DV: I have always enjoyed your work, and i’m glad we can finaly share some with the DV readers. How long have you been creating custom Vinylmation?
Are-Jay: My first Vinylmation custom was completed on 08/19/2009 and was a Classic Batman design.

DV: How many custom Vinylmation have you done?
Are-Jay: I’ve lost count at this point but I’d say somewhere around 175-200.

DV: Wow! How about Disney’s Vinylmation. Do you collect any?
Are-Jay: I do! I used to be a completist for the 3″ figures but due to the flurry of releases each month, and the limited availability of some of them, I’ve cut down and began only collecting my favorites.

DV: Do you have favorite Disney Vinylmation figure?
Are-Jay: My absolute favorite Vinylmation is the 3-eyed Monster from Urban 1, designed by Tyler Dumas. I just love the vibrant colors and randomness of the design. I even created a 9″ tribute piece to match the 3″!

DV: You have just launched your first custom blind box series. This is exciting.
Are-Jay: For my first custom blind box series, I created 15 unique Spiderman customs- including a chaser, and 3 variant designs. They are shipped randomly, which adds to the excitement and captures some of the fun when buying an official Vinylmation blind box!

DV: Why Spiderman?
Are-Jay: Spiderman is such an great character and even though a person may not be into comic books, everyone loves him! I initially wanted to do a mixed series of various Spidey characters but he had so many amazing costumes, I couldn’t choose! I ended up creating the entire series based on his most famous looks which worked out well as everyone who purchased one would get who they wanted- Spiderman!

DV: Which Spiderman costume is your favorite?
Are-Jay: Like mentioned above, its so hard to choose! LOL My current favorite would have to be the Ultimate costume worn by the new Spiderman, Miles Morales. The costume design is incredible and I’m really enjoying reading his series. I’d definitely recommend checking out the book!

DV: Out of your personal custom portfolio, can you pick a favorite?
Are-Jay: While my Batman is a close second, I’d say I am most proud of my Twilight Saga Collection. Each custom features the cover design to each of the 6 books. The book covers are really amazing and they translated so well to the Vinylmation shape. I love that set because the customs have such a unique sophisticated look to them.

DV: You are one of the more experienced custom Vinylmation artists out there. What have you learned from creating your customs that you can pass onto other custom artists?
Are-Jay: I’d the say the most important thing for any artist is just to stay true to yourself and your style!

DV: How can people purchase some Spiderman blind boxes and see the rest of your work?
Are-Jay: You can purchase my Spiderman series by contacting me at arejaydesigns@yahoo.com, through my new facebook fan page: facebook.com/arejaydesigns, and they are also currently listed on ebay. You can view some of my past work at my blog: arejaydesigns.blogspot.com

DV: Thanks for sharing your work with our audience. Don’t be a stranger. Keep us updated on your work.
Are-Jay: Thank you for the opportunity! It’s been wonderful getting to share a little bit about myself and my art. Please feel free to stop by any of my sites and say hello!

Spotlight On: Custom Artist Gabriell

Look what we found on the internets a few weeks ago.
This is Wolverine. He’s an X-Men, and sometimes part of Alpha Flight. He’s pretty bad-ass. He’s also a custom vinylmation made by Gabriell Lucchese. It took a while to track her down, but we found her and wanted to know more about her and her piece of artwork…

MC: Tell us a little about yourself…
GL: My name is Gabriell Lucchese. I am 20 years old and I am currently attending the College of Staten Island, where I was born and raised.

MC: What got you into art?
GL: I’ve always been known to have a good sense of creativity.

MC: What’s your artistic background, training/education?
GL: Not much of a background at all. I haven’t had any training, yet. I am hoping to get accepted into SUNY Purchase College and transfer for Spring 2012, where I can put my creativity to good use while strengthening my skills.

MC: How long have you been creating custom Vinylmation?
GL: Wolverine is my one and only so far. I recently vacationed at Walt Disney World with family and friends in June 2011. There, I found these adorable vinyls. When I spotted the custom “do it yourself” figure, I had to have it. Seeing all of the characters at Disney definitely inspired me to produce my own style of artwork. I am most certainly interested in making more. I just adore Disney!

MC: Do you collect the Vinylmation created by Disney artists?
GL: Yes, I absolutely love Vinylmations. My boyfriend and I go crazy for them. We consider it an addiction!

MC: Most of us do too! What is your favorite Disney Vinylmation design?
GL: I really love Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Although, I haven’t been able to get my hands on her, I am keeping my eyes peeled for the Villain Series every chance I get. My favorite Vinylmation (that I actually own) is Pinocchio from the Animation Series. What really makes him my favorite is that he is Pinocchio from Pleasure Island, transforming into a donkey.

MC: How did you come up with the idea of the Wolverine piece?
GL: My brother, Damien Lucchese, works for Marvel Entertainment. Knowing that Disney has recently acquired Marvel, I figured it was the perfect collaboration of the two. With that being said, Wolverine has always been my favorite Marvel character.

MC: We’re all waiting for the Marvel series also! Can you describe this figure? What detail went into it?
GL: Wolverine is equipped with three blades on each hand and his X-men suit, ready to defeat anyone that gets in his way.

MC: What is your favorite aspect of it?
GL: The Mickey ears, of course!

MC: What was the hardest part in creating this figure?
GL: The hardest part was deciding which costume/uniform Wolverine should wear.

MC: Will you create more comic book vinylmation?
GL: I would be glad to! It was a very fun activity to work on.

MC: Is there a place where people can go to find out more about your pieces and see your work?
GL: Maybe in the near future, when I create more pieces. I would absolutely love to work for Disney one day. It has always been my dream job and luckily for me, Disney is a company where dreams come true!

MC: Thanks for much for your time, and we look forward to anything new you make it the future! Maybe you can get a Marvel set out before Disney actually does.

Spotlight On: Vinylmation Custom Artist Tayner

Destination Vinylmation: Tayner, at only 14 years of age you are creating some nice looking custom Vinylmation. How long have you had a passion for art?

Tayner: My passion for art really started coming out at the age of 12, when I was given a sketch book and good sketching pencils for Christmas, which I instantly took to!

DV: Beside Vinylmation, do you paint or sculpt or create other forms of art?

Tayner: Mainly, I like to draw and animate, and in both, I like to keep them cartoon like, rather than life like. I enjoy sculpting as well, but due to cost and availability of the clay I like, I don’t sculpt as much. My animating is usually with Vinylmation, as you can see on my website, but I also like to try and draw my own animations, rather than model the Vinylmations the way I want. Occasionally, I also paint!

DV: It’s still early, but what kind of career do you see yourself in down the road?

Tayner: I am attending a special high school next year, which is dedicated to the arts, and also has great links to amazing art colleges and universities! I am hoping that both of these will greatly help and improve my art skills, which will lead me to being a product designer at Disney World! If not, I would like to work on animated movies with Disney Pixar! In essence, I want to work for Disney!

DV: Tell us about this Sailor Mickey Custom. You say it was the hardest custom you have ever done. Why?

Tayner: As you can see, Sailor Mickey is a slightly more complicated design than my other Vinylmations. I didn’t expect as much of a challenge as I received. The first challenge was the body. I couldn’t get the lines straight for his shirt, and his jacket was uneven, as well as the buttons being larger/smaller than the other. No matter how much I tried, the problems didn’t get better. Eventually, I gave up on touch ups, and went straight to a new body. His body became FILLED with lines to make sure every centimetre of him was rightly placed! I also learned a technique from watching Evilios’ videos, in which you place down painter’s tape, to keep the lines even, which is how I made the lines on the shirt straight. The last challenge was sculpting his Sailor hat to look just right! It took me a few tries, and 2-3 hours to do this one! Overall, a much harder challenge than my others!

DV: What was the inspiration for this figure?

Tayner: Well, my family had just booked the Disney Dream as part of our next Disney World vacation. Right away, I went to Google, and began looking up any info and images I could find of this magnificent cruise ship! One of the many images that came up was, of course, Sailor Mickey. The only problem here was that there were so many variations of him, that I didn’t know which one to choose! I ended up choosing the one you see, as I liked him the best!

DV: You also have a very special non-Disney Vinylmation set you created. It was for your parents 17th wedding anniversary. What was the process to make sure you captured your Mom and Dad’s look from almost two decades ago?

Tayner: This was indeed a difficult process. As it was a surprise, simply saying “Can I see photos of you on your wedding day?” would certainly raise suspicion. My siblings and I had to make up an excuse to see them. We knew that there were some photos other than their wedding day in the album, so we said we just wanted to see those. Still might have given them their suspicions, but not as much, we hoped! We then sorted through many photos until we found just the right pictures of them. Once this was done, I sketched out the main characteristics of each of them onto a piece of paper, and then combined it all into a Vinylmation sketch (which would eventually be re-done 5-6 times each).

DV: I heard you had a little help with this one?

Tayner: I needed to purchase a lot of materials for this project, and I also wanted to make sure the sketches looked just right before taking the sketches to the figure. I decided the best thing to do was get my siblings involved with the project. We all split the cost, and because I added them, I had to do another 5-6 sketches per figure, until my brother and sister approved them! There was no help with the painting, but I think that adding them on was a great move, and the gift was more special coming from all of us, rather than just me!

DV: And the final product came out great. Talk about the display case.

Tayner: The right display case was finally found at Michaels Art Store! We had searched dozens of websites for display cases, including Michaels, and a nearby favourite, Curry’s! None of them were good enough for what we wanted. On one of our trips to buy supplies for this project, we walked by the Display Case section and I ran over to one I thought was great! My brother said it was too big, and suggested the smaller version of it. We instantly picked it up, claiming it was to go on my shelf, hoping that would cease any suspicions! It is a baseball holder, but the circular parts to hold individual baseballs fit the Vinylmation feet so perfectly, it made the project so much better to be able to keep the Vinyl’s still!

DV: Do your parents have it up on display at the house?

Tayner: Yes! It is sitting proudly on my dad’s desk in my parents’ room!

DV: For more of Tayner’s work, please visit www.taynermurdock.com/vinylmation-customs.html

Spotlight On: Vinylmation Custom Artist Gemma Steib

Recently, we found a Facebook page full of some great customs. The page belongs to Gemma Steib. Originally from Essex, England, she now resides in California where she can be found most days working on her commissioned Vinylmation custom figures.

Destination Vinylmation: How many customs have you created?
Gemma: I’m just about to start working on my 87th and 88th customs! I’ve created 26 for our personal collection and 60 commissions and it still feels like it was only yesterday when I was asked to make my first commission. I’m really looking forward to working on the first 9″ custom for our collection, I wont give away too many details but I feel sorry for my poor 9″ at the moment seeing as I’ve already poked a ton of holes into his head, I’m just waiting for a few parts to come through the mail so I can continue to torture him!

Gemma Steib VMK Custom

DV: What first caught my eye, were the Virtual Magic Kingdom figures. This is very unique. For anyone who doesn’t know about VMK, can you tell us what it was?
Gemma: Hubby and I and a lot of our friends used to play an online Disney game that started in ’05 called Virtual Magic Kingdom, VMK for short. It was a little virtual world where you could be anywhere around the globe and we could all experience a little bit of Disneyland from our homes together. It’s actually the reason I signed up on a forum for the game and met my hubby! Not surprisingly Disneyland is where we are most weekends. The game sadly closed it’s virtual doors in May of ’08 and my hubby and I wanted to make a little something to have as a keepsake to remind us of good times in game.

Boolani and TheAlienStitch

I took Boolani (my character) and TheAlienStitch (my hubby’s character) and translated them to the vinyl form, and ever since then I’ve been getting commissions from others who loved the game and want their own little vinyl reminder of a great short lived game.

Gemma Steib VMK Custom

Which warms my heart a little more for each one I complete, especially ones with sculpted hats like the one with the seagull pirate hat. I couldn’t help but giggle a little inside every time someone ordered one of them, especially as everyone referred to it as the chicken hat, I even roped my hubby into helping make all the individual pieces of straw for the seagull to sit on hehe.

Gemma Steib VMK Custom

DV: What is your favorite VMK custom you’ve done?
Gemma: Other than our own personal ones, I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite out of the VMK customs, although creating the space suit pants for one does come close to topping the list along with the ‘chicken’ hat. But really my favourite part of making the VMK customs is seeing them go off to their new homes and seeing posts on Facebook of their new owners taking them on adventures, Especially when those adventures are Disney park related!

Gemma Steib VMK Custom

DV: What do you like most about making customs?
Gemma: Painting is just something I adore and I love the challenge of translating ideas and designs to the Vinylmation form, especially charactertures of people.

The “making of” a Gems Vinyl Custom

DV: How can people see your work and order a custom from Gems Vinyls?
Gemma: Usually I can only take one one or two commissions per week depending on how complex the design is, so my wait list does sometimes get backed up. It sometimes takes a while to get through them all without rushing orders. I’d hate to have to rush a piece that wasn’t up to my standards which I wouldn’t be happy sending out. People can contact me on Facebook. I have a Facebook profile and a group for my customs. My profile for Gem’s Vinyl Customs is usually where I post the most. I debated so much over making a profile vs a page but I much prefer having an inbox on the profile so I can be contacted easily.

Profile – http://www.facebook.com/gemsvinyls
Group – http://www.facebook.com/groups/101823626520457?ap=1

DV: Thank you and keep up the great work. We will be featuring more of your customs soon.
Gemma: Thanks again for featuring my customs!

Spotlight On: Vinylmation Custom Artist Cesilie

Today we feature a new custum artist from Modesto, California. Cesilie caught our attention when she started her Facebook page for Mo Doodle Designs and posted a picture of her Ken from Toy Story 3 custom.

Destination Vinylmation: How long have you been creating custom vinylmation?

Cesilie: A few months, Ken was the first vinyl I created after holding onto the blank vinyl for about a year! I was super nervous to start and my friend Nat told me to just jump in.

DV: Do you create other forms of art besides vinylmation?

Cesilie: My parents had a craft business growing up so painting and being artsy has always been something I’ve done. I can usually be found drawing (Hence the nickname I was given, “Mo Doodle”), painting, or creating mini-comic adventures of my pets!

DV: Your custom Ken looks amazing, just like the character from Toy Story 3. How did you decide to create a Ken?

Cesilie: Thank you! I can’t believe how well he turned out In fact, he came out exactly how I envisioned him! As one of the many kids today that have grown up with Toy Story I was super excited to see the Toy Story vinyl set come out. I was very happy to see a Lotso but not so happy to see Big Baby. I was hoping for more of my new found favorite characters to be included and I couldn’t help but wonder what Ken would look like as a vinyl. For me Ken stole the show in TS3 and I just felt like I needed to add to my Toy Story set!

DV: Talk about the process of creating this custom. Did you sketch out concept art? Do you pencil the design on first?

Cesilie: With Ken I had a hard time debating which outfit I wanted to put him in… There were SO many in the movie that I had to take a vote on which outfit to make. My family and friends voted to just do Animal Lovin’ Ken since he was the first version of Ken we met in the movie. I started sketching him on a vinyl outline and sorta just went from there. I’m pretty good at free-handing things and don’t really sketch them out first. I’ve found with a few other vinyls I’ve worked on that penciling onto the plastic is not something I’m good at, plus I like the challenge of eye-balling it. I also knew I wanted him to have a real ascot, so fabric that matched my paint colors was a must!

DV: What was the biggest challenge in creating the Ken custom?

Cesilie: The biggest challenge I think was the leopard spots. I wanted them to be super accurate and I was really worried about starting to work on them. I ended up using a toothpick and spent about 3 hours trying to get them right on the first ear! After I got that done I was really relieved to see they turned out exactly how I wanted and the the other ear and shirt were much easier and way less time consuming to finish. I also had a little trouble with the highlights in his hair, so I had my expert crafty mom help me out with that one!

DV: Great use of the ears! Was that your original idea or did have other thoughts for them as well?

Cesilie: At first I didn’t know what to do with the ears. I thought about painting them brown but as I talked to my mom about it she said it would look funny to have brown hair and then brown ears. Then I considered leaving them blue and just writing “Ken” in pink text (like on the barbie boxes) on his ear…. It wasn’t  until after I had sketched most of him out on the coloring page that I decided to try the leopard spots on the ears 🙂

DV: Where is barbie?

Cesilie: Barbie is in the works… I didn’t expect Ken to turn out as well as he did. This was my first custom afterall, not to mention my first 3D art piece ever! so I never thought about making his counter part. However, after taking Ken to Disneyland for the pirates event and getting a great response with him I’ve been working on a Barbie sketch to finish off the duo.

DV: It looks like you have a couple nice looking sports figure customs in the concept phase.

Cesilie: Totally! They are actually my first official commissioned pieces! The guy I’m doing them for is a fan of New York teams (Yankees and the Jets) and asked me to create two figures based off of these teams. The one you can see actual paint progress of so far is the Yankee’s player 🙂 I’m waiting for a special little item to come in before I start the football player 🙂

DV: Two New York teams? What would happen if I commishioned you to create a Boston Red Sox or Patiots custom?

Cesilie: I would totally be down to do both! I personally am not very in-the-know when it comes to sports teams as far as who is who, I just know I’m a Dallas fan 😉

DV: Can people purchase any of your customs?

Cesilie: YES! As of right now I take custom orders of whatever you’d like me to do! I have a cute old-fashioned Minnie in the works as well as the two lil sports guys. I make pretty much whatever your heart desires! If anyone would like to inquire about a possible custom (or to even purchase a Ken/Ken outfit varient) you can contact me on Facebook.

DV: Thank you for your time and keep in touch about your future customs.

Cesilie: Thanks SO much for featuring me!

Spotlight On: Vinylmation Custom Artist Heather

We were browsing some of our friend’s Facebook pages and came across an amazing new set of customs from Heather at Vinylmation Customations. Take a look:

Fig #1 – Ursula Business Card Holder

This is the design that started it all for me! I needed a business card holder but wanted something “Vinalymation” – it snowballed from there! I’ve always loved Ursula, but felt she really needed some awesome tentacles that sculpting allows for. This is one of the anchors for the Desk Set and may be purchase individually for $99.

Fig #2 – Old Hag Paper Clip Holder

Probably the most surprising piece for me; I love this one! In her cauldron, there is a magnet for the paper clip holder. To purchase this individually, the price is $89.

Fig #3 – Cruella – Note Paper Holder

Capturing Pongo in the 101 Dalmatians scene was fantastic! Easily one of my favorite movies, this piece was so fun to create! I especially love the living room with the rug & TV. One of my last-minute decisions was to add the paw prints around the bottom. In this piece I really change Cruella by re-painting her coat & dress and of course by adding dalmatian print wrap. This item is available for $89.

Fig #4 – Prince John Pencil Cup & Clock

Certainly the largest piece in the desk set and wow, what a lot of sculpting went into this one! Everyone love coins & jewels, especially Prince John and he just didn’t seem complete without his throne 🙂 This piece is also available an individual purchase for $119.

Fig #5 – Kaa Stapler

Bringing together the art concept while keeping “functionality” in mind was challenged on this one. I really wanted the stapler to be able to be used without taking away any of a traditional stapler’s capability as some many other desk set staplers have. You can easily add staples and release & open to staple flat against a surface. Kaa can be ordered for $69 as an individual piece.

Complete Desk Set (5pcs) $389

I’ve been asked about creating these as individual dioramas with out the desk set function; I happy to create these as well for the “Villains-Lover” that doesn’t need a Desk Set. Prices are similar to those of the office set, but contact me directly for specific details.

My custom creations may be found at Vinylmation Customations as well as order information. We do LOTS of fun things here! I just gave-away a free 3″ Custom to one of my lucky “Fans” and we have a few more surprises coming very soon!
