PHOTOS, VIDEO: Disney Previews Future Theme Park Star Wars Merchandise Releases at Celebration Orlando
Yesterday at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, we got a special look ahead at all of the awesome Star Wars merchandise coming to Disney Parks over the next year during a special panel. Below are photos and video of everything of interest that we saw. Enjoy!
Droid Factory
The droid Factory line, started a few years ago, has allowed guests to build their own Astromech Droids at locations at both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. Disney has also released one-of-a-kind droids in special packs, as pictured above.
Several pieces were released at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, including this two-pack with R2-D2 and C-390…
As well as Chopper from the television series Rebels. Not pictured above is the red protocol droid C-3D0 from The Force Awakens which was also released this weekend at the convention.
Starting Friday, April 14th at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests will be able to build protocol droids at the experience as well, with over 70 pieces to choose from. This will also be rolled out to additional locations and at the Disneyland Resort in the next few days.
Several more pre-packaged Astromech Droids are coming this year, with a D23 Expo exclusive…
A Halloween season piece…
A Christmas season piece…
And bb-8 will be introduced to the line at the Disneyland Resort during the week of the D23 Expo.
While they wouldn’t show us exactly what it looks like, guests will soon have a Jawa’s Sandcrawler as a playlet for all of their Droid Factory toys.
Upcoming Star Wars Events at Disney Parks
Next weekend, the Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side will unleash a new line of merchandise.
These Imperial Dooney and Bourke bags titled “The Dark Side” will be released at the event.
With the first event taking place on April 14th (with more likely to be announced), Star Wars Galactic Nights has plenty of goodies for guests to bring home. NOTE: They blurred out the mug and shirt to keep the logo a surprise.
The 2018 Star Wars Day at Sea merchandise for Disney Cruise Line was also previewed.
On May 4th, 2017, Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will celebrate Star Wars Day with exclusive merchandise.
Other MerchandiseÂ
The 13th Ewok plush in the collection will be released at the D23 Expo this year.
Starting today, guests will find these phone cases celebrating 40 years of Star Wars at the D-Tech on Demand kiosks at Star Wars Launch Bay.
“I Love You” and “I Know” hats will join the t-shirts later this year.
Yesterday, a special panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando was presented celebrating “Disney Parks and Star Wars – A Galaxy in the Making”. The presentation includes 40 minutes of talk about the Star Wars Land project for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, revealing new details we have not heard before. Learn all about building a reputation, helping bounty hunters, joining the First Order or the Resistance, piloting the Millennium Falcon, and more in the video below: Due to copyright issues, Disney would not allow us to upload the behind the scenes video they stop to play in the panel, but you can watch it in all of its glory here: The panel also began with the story of Star Tours and an announcement of a new destination from The Last Jedi, which you can watch below: The new destination in Star Tours will debut in late 2017. The Star Wars themed land at Disney Parks will open in 2019. Star Wars – Galactic Nights took over Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Friday, April 14th, 2017 during Star Wars Celebration Orlando, turning the park into a fanboy’s dream. While we are still formulating a review (as it is expected the event will return), please enjoy our videos of the various festivities: Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster drops Aerosmith and adds the magical musical core of John Williams in this attraction overlay. The ride portion is mostly dark except for some projections of stars, a nice upgrade over the last time this overlay was installed in December 2015 for the premiere of The Force Awakens. Rey from the new Star Wars trilogy joins the cast of this show for one night only. Darth Vader and the stormtroopers march through Disney’s Hollywood Studios in this event exclusive offering. A Rogue One sequence replaces Both in Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. You can see the Both version of the show below this one in case you are wondering what’s missing. A celebrity motorcade welcomes the stars to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Right before the fireworks show, the event is recapped and the guest lanyards come to life with some Disney magic… Just for this event, the Seventh Sister is turned into a face character in Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. The Chinese Theater is turned into a living canvas as tableaus of Star Wars planets come to life. Alright, they can’t all be winners. Witness this strange and almost useless stage show/powerpoint presentation on the history of Star Wars. 6 unique photo-ops were offered to guests during this event. Our latest photo report brings us to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to see the latest progress on the park’s massive expansion and more. Let’s take a look… PhotoPass services will remain at Sid Cahuenga’s, even now with Cover Story on Hollywood Boulevard reopened. Some repaving happening on Hollywood Blvd., long overdue based on the color difference. Will this be the end of the infamous metal lines in the ground on Hollywood Boulevard? The Darkroom and Cover Story have reopened as one larger store attached to the Celebrity 5 & 10. The Dark Room has mostly pins and MagicBands for sale. Cover story has a lot of smaller trinkets, as well as stationery and assorted other souvenirs. The openings between all three shops were greatly expanded for better traffic flow as well. The merchandise stand outside of Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster is now also sponsored by Hanes and has signage with a shop name. Signage outside of the former Starring Rolls Cafe now tells guests of many other dining options. You can see a large crane working in the former-Backlot area from the entrance of the Hollywood Brown Derby. It is once again time to take to the skies above Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a bird’s eye view of the construction of the park’s largest expansion, including Toy Story Land and the highly anticipated Star Wars themed land. We begin our journey with an aerial flyover video of the site: Due to popular demand, I took the time to label a photo to better show where things are: As always, you can click the photos to enlarge them. In Toy Story Land, we can see a wall being constructed in front of the parking garage to block it from the view of guests while they are in the land. The new backstage facility behind Star Wars has taken shape since we last checked in. It will likely be the first piece of the expansion to be completed. If you look closely at the load station for the Slinky Dog Dash, you can see one small section red coaster track installed where guests will eventually board the toy vehicle. Not much else is happening in Star Wars Land, other than the wall we showed you in our expansion update last week. Otherwise, the ditch for the larger attraction continues to be worked on. The work south of the road, towards the bottom, is for the new parking entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Toy Story Land is expected to open in 2018, while Star Wars Land will officially open in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Japanese airline ANA, or All Nippon Airways, unveiled their most recent Star Wars themed plane which is themed to look like C-3PO! On the outside, along with having a large Star Wars logo, the plane is a bright yellow with a series of circles and wires that resemble that of the droid. This C-3PO airplane just began flying on domestic routes on March 21st, 2017. The plane was unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration Europe earlier this week and is the third of the planes ANA has made with Disney, to promote Star Wars. The other two planes also feature droids. Those droids being R2-D2 and BB-8. The interior of the new C-3PO plane is no ordinary plane. The flight attendants wear aprons that are designed to look like him, along with the cups and the headrest covers. Below is a short video from ANA showcasing these Star Wars planes. Disney Cruise Line is majorly upgrading their entertainment options aboard the Disney Fantasy. From new Marvel experiences to Star Wars, there is now so much more fun for the whole entire family. Here are some of the new experiences to come aboard when the ship docks and renovates this spring: For kids joining in on the fun Oceaneer Club, you can blast off to a galaxy far, far, away with Star Wars or learn mystic arts with Dr. Strange. For the new Star Wars experiences; Star Wars: Command Post, will take kids on journeys where they can train with heroes of the Star Wars saga and help fight against the Fisrt Order. Kids will be able to interact with holographic models at one-of-a-kind Star Wars holotable that will project the Milenium Falcon, Death Star, and other very famous Star Wars ships, meet members of the resistance, and channel the force. Disney already has added the new Marvel Super Hero Academy to the list of things to do, but now they are adding even more Marvel experiences aboard the ship. Kids will now be able to learn the mystic arts with the one and only Dr. Strange. Children will be also open so called ‘portals’ to different locales around the Marvel Universe and immerse themselves in an exclusive gaming experience. New to the ship is the Sweet on You Ice Cream Shop which features hand-crafted gelato and ice cream, specialty sundaes, homemade chocolates, truffles, and a large selection of candy for purchase all right by the family pool. This new shop is themed after the recent Mickey Mouse shorts. For a first on DCL, the famous and iconic American Luxury brand Tiffany & Co. will have its very own store where you can indulge in timeless collections of jewlery luxury accessories, including the effortlessly elegant Tiffany & Co. diamonds. All of these new enhancements will debut on the Disney Fantasy sailings starting May 17, 2017, from Port Canaveral. Check out BB-8 as he makes his very first impressive meet and greet debut at Hong Kong Disneyland. BB-8 is set to make his Hollywood Studios debut at the Star Wars Launch Bay next month!
