Let’s Trade! March 2nd at WDW

Hot on the heals of a late January event, Disney has announced another Vinylmation and Pin trading event for Walt Disney World. This event will be held on Friday, March 2 from 6p-9p at the Contemporary Resort Fantasia H Ballroom.

It’s great to see another event less than 2 months apart. It’s fun to trade and we usually get to see some future sets revealed. Last time we saw Park 8. What do you hope to see on 3/2? And for those near Disneyland, don’t forget your trading event in just a few days. Friday, February 17 at the Paradise Pier Hotel.

Another Trading Night for WDW Announced

Today, Disney announced that Walt Disney World Florida would get another trading night on July 8th. It will be in the Contemporary Resort in the Fantasia J Ballroom from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Woohoo! These have always been a lot of fun. Be sure to be early, last time the line was huge!!!!!!!

VinylKonrad’s Mystery Trading Box

Our buddy @VinylKonrad will be at the trading event tonight at WDW. He’s bringing with him a mystery trading box of his own. Make sure you stop by his table and check it out. Also check out our table with lots of trade options. We too are planing a mystery box, but it’s not nearly as cool as Konrad’s!!

ZoMG: Vinylmation Trading Night – Paradise Pier Hotel

Friday, May 6th was Trading Night at the Paradise Pier Hotel. Vinylmation and Pin collectors gathered to trade and share their collections.

This was the second trading event of the year and it was a huge success! There were at least 10 or 12 tables dedication to just Vinylmation! This was exciting because last time there were maybe only 5 or 6 tables of Vinylmation. Maybe one day we can have a Vinylmation Trading event all to ourselves!

The event took place between 7:00 – 10:00, people were coming in and out of the Paradise Pier Ballroom like crazy! People gathered for many different reasons, just to trade, looking for a few certain Vinylmation, and some just gathered to show off their collections.
It’s neat to see the different types of collectors that love Vinylmation all in one place together! You make friends, talk and have a great time. I had so much fun this past week at the Trading Event and was able to make a few great trades and get some Vinylmation that I was very excited about! Also, a lot of people recognized me from the Destination Vinylmation Blog, which was very flattering and exciting. So thank you to everyone that came by to say hi and trade!!
I hope that Disney puts together more trading nights for us to all meet up and trade our Vinylmation and maybe even show us some previews like they usually do with the Pin Preview Boards!

Everyone really made an effort to come out this time for the event! A couple of fun things that were going on at the Trading Event this time around were a trading box! I wish I had gotten a picture of this to show you guys but a nice couple that I met made their own trading box with drawers that you could walk up to and trade your own just like Disney trading boxes!

Also, another collector created a Vinylmation farm! This farm was created out of a few 9″ including Tree of Life, a custom beehive, and Goofy’s Barn Stormer! This set up was very impressive!! Their Barn set up included many Holiday 2 Corn, a couple Urban 6 Sunny Days, a Holiday 2 Ground Hog, 2 Good Luck/Bad Luck Lady Bugs, Pumpkins from Holiday 2, Mickey’s Garden from Have a Laugh, Bumble Bees from Cutesters 1, Killer Bees from Urban 6, one Green Thumb from Urban 6, a custom cow, Strawberries from Urban 4, Bullseye and Ham from Toy Story, as well as the 3″ sheep from the Toy Story Lil Bo Peep set. It turned out great and everyone loved it and was taking photos of it! Hopefully, next Trading Night there will be more set ups like this one!!
In conclusion, I believe this Trading Night was a huge success and I am looking forward to the next one! Hope to see you guys there!

WDW Trading Event: May 20th

Update: 5/4/11 Thanks to Konrad for noticing that Disney updated the events page confirming this event as vinylmation!

Disney Pin and Vinylmation (confirmed) trading event:

May 20, 2011 – 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Disney’s Contemporary Resort – Ballroom of the Americas

This will also be the first day of Star Wars Weekends, where it is rumored that the Star Wars set will be re-released. (As part of SWW the new Star Tours 2 will open!)

We’re looking into confirming the event is also for Vinylmation. Vinylmation.com still has not listed the event, so we will keep you updated. Although, even it it’s not a confirmed “vinylmation” event, we are sure there will be some vinyl trading going on. (At the last event the vinylmation trading was mush bigger then the pin trading!)

See you there!

New DV Reporter Ryan Got the Scoop on Some Release Dates

Destination Vinylmation is excited to announce the addition of a new contributor to our website. Ryan helped us out at the recent WDW trading event. Below, Ryan introduces himself and gives the scoop on some upcoming Vinylmation he uncovered at the event. Ryan, take it away…

Hey all, my name is Ryan, a photographer, writer and avid Vinylmation collector for the past few years. I’m the newest writer over here at Destination Vinylmation, and wanted to introduce myself. To get the big questions out of the way:
  1. How long have I been collecting? I’ve been collecting since about Urban 2’s release. I didn’t realize then how popular things would be and several times passed up on opportunities to purchase both “Ham and Eggs” and “Carnotaurus” 9 inch. I kick myself to this day.
  2. My favorite figure I own? Tough call, but I’d have to say Sulley and Boo!
  3. Favorite figure I don’t own? Mine Mine Mine is my current Holy Grail.
Anyway, enough about me! While the rest of the Destination Vinylmation crew was busy trading, I took it upon myself (as the newest member of the team) to head over to the trade box and upcoming release table and ask some questions about the imminent releases.
Park 6, as seen above, is set to be released on April 1. If you remember, Disney announced an April 1 release date, then retracted it because the product wasn’t at WDW yet. But according to the cast member behind-the-counter, that date is back on! Check out Park 6 Explained for more. This is a good time to point out the glaring lack of Steven Miller, Vinylmation’s tried and true “Ambassador of Trading”. According to the Disney cast members at the event, Steven has moved up to another position within Disney. Several pin traders took to calling the two women who were helping organize the event “Steven” as an homage to Mr. Miller. He will be missed.
Also being released with Park 6 is the Park 6 Combo Topper, which features Mickey Mouse from his highly popular animated short “Runaway Brain”. This 3 inch, as shown above, will go great with the recently released Villains 9” Julius + Minnie Jr. combo.
Other releases shown were TRON (March 25) and a couple already known Muppets 2 (April 15) figures. Also shown was the newly announced Celebration series which will be packaged and sold just like the Occupations released a couple weeks ago.
Also shown was the 9” + 3” Urban 6 combo of a Bubble Gum machine and boy blowing a bubble!
While no samples were on display, we also received confirmation that the Duck Tales 2-Figure set from the “Disney Afternoon” series will be released on April 8, although there were some discrepancies on whether or not the set would be online exclusive like the previously released “Talespin” set or in D-Street, as Disney previously announced it would be.

All in all it was a successful trade event. LOTS of Vinylmation traders peppered the sea of pin traders, and there finally seemed to be a healthy amount of trading happening. This is also likely because of the lack of a trade night in 2011 before March, and lots of new product has been released recently.

Thanks for reading, and until next time… make YOUR Destination, Vinylmation!

WDW Trading Event

WDW hosted a trading event at the Contemporary Resort yesterday. First off, we want to say thank you to everyone who stopped by our table to say hi or to trade with us.

It was great to see a couple hundred people lined up outside the doors to the room before the event. Once let in, collectors scrambled to find some table space to display their collections. Traders then walked around the room trading with each other.

The event was both a Vinylmation and Pin trading event and the pin traders sitting at the tables out numbered the Vinylmation traders. However, the crowd walking around the room, seemed to be comprised mostly of Vinylmation traders. We are not saying that Pin trading is declining, there were a ton of people trading pins, but the buzz just seemed to be with the Vinylmation. In talking to a few people at the event, they said traders seemed to be searching out the Vinylmation on the tables over the Pins and some Pin traders seemed frustrated. In fact, the Pin traders next to our spot were getting annoyed with the crowds of Vinylmation traders around them trying to see what figures we had and blocking anyone from seeing their pins. They eventually moved to another corner of the room, near other Pin Traders.

Disney did a wonderful job. They had a Vinylmation table set up displaying some Vinylmation you could purchase. There was also a Mystery 24 and Open box trade area set up. Disney also had a table promoting the Disneyland Sci-Fi Acadamy (still no word there on any event specific Vinylmation for that). Disney also will never allow a crowd to gather on property without some merchandise and cash registers nearby. They had some pins and lanyards for sale in the ballroom.

You don’t know what it means to us to hear people say they visit our site and listen to our podcasts. We do this because we enjoy collecting Vinylmation, love Disney and have fun doing it… but hearing the feedback that you guys enjoy what we do, makes it all worth it. And we couldn’t do it without you. Keep on contacting us with your questions, ideas and any news you find out about Vinylmation. We hope you enjoyed trading with us as much as we did with you. See you at the next event!

How did you do at the Trading Event? Was it like you expected? What was your best trade?

Attention: Vinylmation Traders

On Friday, March 18th from 6-9pm, there will be a Vinylmation trading event in the Contemporary Resort at WDW. In an effort to help out collectors going to the event, we invite you to leave a comment here and/or a post on our Facebook wall and let other collectors out there know what figures you are looking for. This will help everyone get a better idea of what figures to bring with them to the event. We can’t wait to trade with you and see you at WDW on Friday.

Trade event in Florida

Looking in at the Trading Event at WDW on Friday night. A fun night, mostly because I traded for over 12 Vinylmations, including the Park 4 Chaser and TWO green army men!
