It’s About Time

Vinylmation Park, Urban and Steampunk… or Steampark, as Disney terms it… watches were released at D-Street today. Steampunk and Urban come with a $150 price tag. Park retails for $125. All 3 are a Limited Edition of 750 each. Here are some first pictures and partial reviews: (listen to Destination Vinylmation podcast episode 4 coming out this weekend for more in depth reviews of the watches and Holiday 2)

Vinylmation Park Watch and 3″ Figure

As you can see, it’s a Steamboat Willie inspired design by Eric Caszatt.

The watch face is wrapped around the 3″ Vinylmation with Mickey on the side and they use the Vinylmation arm as an extension of the drawn on Mickey.

Back of the 3″ Park Watch figure.
The watch seems of good construction with a comfortable leather wristband. Also of note is the Mickey on the watch is raised off the background, not drawn on.
Vinylmation Urban Watch and 3″ Figure

The Urban Watch has a “face” like artistic design on the watch face. The 3″ figure just replicates the watch being strapped around it. The watch band is a sturdy rubber design.
Here is the back of the 3″ Eric Caszatt designed figure, as expected, it replicates the back of the watch face.
Vinylmation Steampunk Watch and 3″ Figure

This is an exciting piece! Look at the detail as they put a Vinylmation Mickey on the pocket watch lid.

Take a look at the inside of the watch. You can see all the working gears in this mechanical time piece.

Designer Mike Sullivan did a wonderful job on this Steampunk figure. The back of the 3″ figure has a Hidden Mickey in the ear and a splash of color on one of the gears.

Back to $9.95!

The Holiday 2 Vinylmation blind boxes are back down to $9.95 after seeing a price increase to $12.95 for Park and Urban 5. Disney has been keeping us on our toes with price ups and downs the past couple months, will future blind boxes stay at this price? Did Disney hear our frustration with the $12.95 price tag? Whatever the reason or future price, this was a nice Holiday treat for Vinylmation collectors!

Holiday Display

Here’s what it looks like this morning as we enter D-Street. Just to the right of this is the Ice Tray sets. Too cold a day for Ice 🙂

Who needs Ice Cubes?

It’s cold outside as MC and I wait at D Street for Vinylmation Ice Cube trays, holiday 2 and some watches. And remember the artist signing today!

A New Tail to Tell

With the full body shots of Mushu released yesterday and the one from last month of Simba(??) we see that the Tail is a new body feature that will be coming to Vinylmation as part of the Animated 1 set. Back at Trade City 2010 we noticed the tail on Mushu but couldn’t really get a good photo of it. Now we see it in all it’s glory and welcome it as the next addition to the Vinylmation bodies (the first was the Neck in the Ostrich and Giraffe).

Update 7:00 PM: Here’s another Vinylmation from the Animated 1 set. We knew he had the donkey ears, and now we know Pinocchio has a tail too!

There are a lot of animals in the Disney character kingdom, so I suspect the tail will be seen a lot more in the next year and beyond.

What do you think of the tail? what other body part would you like to see added in the future? Join the discussion with a comment at our blog.

Get Your Tickets!

For about the price of a Disneyland 1 Day Park Hopper, you will soon be able to buy a Booklet of Disneyland A-E Tickets!… only catch is they are Vinylmation and probably will not get you admission into the parks. But it’s a great looking set in a collectible box that will be available starting December 10th at D-Street only in California. This LE of 1955 produced set will retail for $99.95. Lin Shih (Holiday 2 Graveyard 9″) designed this series.

I guess you CAN’T have your cake and eat it too

The Disney Vinylmation Blog announced we are getting our Birthday Cake Vinylmation on December 10th ($44.95 LE 1000)… but it is not edible. You never know after the ice cube trays (release date: December 3). This figure looks delicious, and it looks like a Disney Design Artist stole a piece out of the back!

Something more for the Holidays?

There’s been a lot of talk this week about Holiday sets (Mostly because the Holiday 2 set is coming out on Friday) and we remembered something interesting we found in the archives over at the Disney Chat Blog. According to Todd on November 2nd, there’s a pretty good chance there will be a Chanukah Vinylmation in the next Holiday Set. Sounds cool. What other Holidays should be included? Let us know!

UPDATE 12/1/10: Less than 24 hours after posting this entry, the Vinylmation Facebook page posted pics of the Chanukah Vinylmation, confirming its existence and placement in the Holiday 3 set. Of course Holiday 2 isn’t even out yet, so be prepared to wait a year for this Vinylmation.

Quick Facts: The body is a dreidel, with the front showing the Shin side (which means you add one to the pot, oddly the worst possible outcome to a spin). Shown on the head and the right ear are gold Hanukkah gelt, which is sometimes used while playing with a dreidel. These days the gelt are gold foil covered pieces of chocolate. Also of note is that one of the gelt has a picture of a menorah, the candelabrum used during Hanukkah.
