Everyone Likes a Red Head

Meet the two newest red heads of Vinylmation. First, Julie Young. She has been a long time merchandiser with Disney Pins and according to the Disney Parks Blog is coming over to Vinylmation. She also was in one of Steven Miller’s interviews when he joined the team back 9 years ago. Congrats to Julie!

Also, Julie seems to be holding what we can only assume is a Park Starz version of the Red Head from Pirates of the Caribbean. Could this be another Park Starz 2 figure? (She doesn’t say anything about the figure in her interview.) How do you think it compares to the famous animatronic?

Thanks to Michael for taking a closer look. He spotted what looks like it maybe be a Park Starz Orange Bird in the background. What do you think?
Well Steven Miller already answered this question, with a big fat YES!

We also noticed the packaging for Park Starz 2…

Spotlight On: Ryan Branoff’s Animal

We ran into Ryan on the internet and since MC is a recovering drummer, this custom spoke to us. We asked Ryan about his custom.

Destination Vinylmation: Hi Ryan, how long have your been doing customs?

Ryan Branoff: I’ve always been interested in the custom world of Vinylmation. I have been collecting Vinylmation for the last 3 years, but have just recently in the past month been doing my own customs. I’ve been working really hard this past month, I never knew how addicting creating your own Vinylmation would be!

DV: They are addicting! So, what is your art background?

RB: Art has always been a major part of my life. I went to an arts-centric high school, where I studied Visual Arts, and this continued on to university. Since then, I have been working as a commission artist with a focus on portraiture (on the side to my day job).

DV: That sounds fun. I love this figure, what inspired it?

RB: Definitely my love of the Muppets was the inspiration behind this figure. Ever since I was little, I have been a big fan of the Muppets, especially Animal. I have a pretty expansive Muppet collection spanning from the Palisades line of action figures to every Muppet-related Vinylmation that has been released. I knew my first 9 inch custom had to be special, and the result was my Electric Mayhem Animal.

DV: What was the most difficult part of this design?

RB: The Electric Mayhem logo on the back was the most challenging. I knew I had to get it just right to execute the overall design on the back of figure and in order for the figure to have the overall feel I was going for.

DV: Don’t worry. It looks great! Just curious, which are your favorite Muppets?

RB: Animal, Gonzo, and Bean Bunny.

DV: Which of Disney’s VInylmation figures is your favorite?

RB: This one is really tough. There are a lot of figures that appeal to me, but I would have to say that it’s a toss up between Park 1 Kermit and Park 3 Rizzomouse.

DV: How can people find more of your figures?

RB: To see any of my past projects and for future releases, you just need to ‘Like’ my Facebook Artist Page: www.facebook.com/CustomVinylmationRyanBranoff or email me at ryan.branoff@facebook.com.

Spotlight On: Evilos’ P. Sherman

Evilos emailed us this great custom and we asked for more info. So in his own words, here is Evilos…

“These are my two of a kind customs for the “Custom Artist Project” headed up by Rust This World. The project consists of 12 well known custom artists in the Vinylmation custom world. Each artist has been tasked with creating a custom themed around the world of Pixar movies. My custom named “P.Sherman 42 Wallaby Way” is themed around “Finding Nemo”. The main blue custom is one of my “Domed” customs that portrays the part in the movie when Nemo “Touches the Butt” and is taken by P.Sherman (The Dentist). Mr.Shermans’ scuba mask is left behind with the address “P.Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney NSW”, giving Nemo’s father Marlin the only clue to finding his captured son.

Since this is a Blind Box Series, the dome would not fit in a normal box. So I had to think of a way to keep it consistent with the rest of the customs being offered with the series. So I created the Green figure with the address written in the style portrayed in the movie. Collectors will open their blind boxes, hopefully find the green figure, then contact me to redeem the dome. Both domes have been created so there will be no waiting on their end.

There will be a total of 24 figures (could be more) to this Custom Pixar Series. I will be offering up two of these sets, so the odd’s are 1:12 in pulling my custom from this amazing series.

C3PO Variant found

Over on Vinylmation Exchange on facebook, Josh Edwards has shown off a variant colored C3PO from Star Wars Series 1 that he got from a “high up” friend. Check out these pics and see what you think? As we speak someone is showing off the pictures to Mike Sullivan and then we’ll get some more answers, but the piece looks real. Were they going to have both a Chaser Variant and a Variant in the first Star Wars series? Crazy!

Why is it the Lone Ranger, when Tonto’s always there?

At Mickey’s Circus, Disney announced a two pack of Vinylmation to represent the movie “The Lone Ranger” (in theaters July 3rd). Next month, on June 21st, these two figures will come to the Disney Parks. There will only 2000 of these and they will cost $26.95 each. Eric Caszatt designed both figures, which are pretty cool. I especially enjoy the bird accessory on Tonto.

So enjoy your second Johnny Deep Vinylmation. And if you get two sets, you can put the two Rangers together, and it will be like you have a Winklevoss twins!

Pixar Series #2 Variant Revealed!!!!

This evening, Vinylmation Exchange member Nancy Madrid posted the first pictures of the variant in the upcoming Pixar 2 series.  Take a look at the figure below:

It’s Elastigirl in her original suit!!!! Designed by Gerald Mendez, I think this variant definitely works, as opposed to some of the “lazier” variants we’ve seen of late.  Here is a picture of what she looked like rocking this suit in the original movie:

What do you guys think? Does this variant make you wish they made a Mr. Incredible in his blue suit for Pixar series 1? Let us know!!!

Park 13 Explained

Park 13
8 Figure Blind Box Series
Expected to be released in November 2013

08/29/13 Today Vinylmation World posted some pics of the Park 13 series. What do you think of these? Where do you think the Bellhop we saw earlier fit into this set?

The Head Salesman
(Trader Sam, Chief Name)
Jungle Cruise
Magic Kingdom
Long time coming. Beautiful design with umbrella and flowers in the ears. We still need a Park Starz version.

There is a ton of talk about his name and both sides are kind of correct. This figure for sure represents the Magic Kingdom version and not the Disneyland version. But here is a link to the best article I could find about the name. It is from a former Jungle Cruise Skipper.

Three Headed Troll
Maelstrom
Norway, Epcot
A beautifully drawn depiction of the most memorable part of this attraction. The canvas is full of color and personality.
Box ‘O Bot Target
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spun
MK, Disneyland
Odd choice, but a neat nod to a fun attraction. A good overall design with the Zurg targets and starry ears.
Claire de Room
It’s Tough to be a Bug
Animal Kingdom, DCA
Very simple figure. Not my first choice for a character from this attraction, but she does decorate a fun billboard.
Devil
Mr. Toads Wild Ride
MK, Disneyland
Nice simple look on a popular character from a beloved attraction. Love the pitch fork.
Injun Joe’s Cave
Tom Sawyer’s Island
Magic Kingdom
A nice feature in the cave itself, but an odd depiction on the vinyl.
Catastrophe Canyon
Backlot Tour
DHS
The attractions needs to go. But this part was always fun. Explosions, fire and gushing water taking guests back stage of action movie’s special effect. The design is full of action and really puts you on the ride.

Pardon Our Pixie Dust
Mystery Chaser
Disney Theme Parks
A wonderful chaser depicting the famous signs Imagineers post around construction zones at the Disney parks.
