Disney Store Blog Talks to Vinylmation Artist Enrique Pita

Last week, we featured Disney Store Artist Enrique Pita in our “Spotlight On” series. Today, the Disney Parks Blog released a great interview with Enrique. They also released this look at Enrique’s Robots concept art. Look closely at the NOT released Robots. We already heard hints that a Series 2 will be on the way.

When asked about the creation of the Robots series, Enrique said “For the Robots series, I came up with the original concept and then we decided as a team that we wanted to do the wind-up robots. But, from there, we created our own robots and named them on our own.” Read the full interview with Enrique here.

Official Closing Dates Announced For Engine-Ear Toys and Greetings From California

From Michelle Harker on the Disney Parks Blog:

I’m sure most of you know by now either from reading the Disney Parks Blog or visiting the Disneyland Resort, that the new entrance to Disney California Adventure park debuted just a few weeks ago. And I have to say it looks spectacular! A new entrance also means new stores… so I want to make sure that you have the latest and greatest information as we prepare for changes in the world of Disney Theme Park Merchandise.

Engine-Ears Toys at Disney California Adventure Park

Hop on board at Engine-Ears Toys before July 31. That’s right, in a little less than a week this “Engine-Ear” will leave its station and hit the tracks as we pave the way for an entire new set of stores set to debut in Summer 2012. So for those of you who love to create your own Mr. Potato Head, you better keep an “eye” out and a “nose” to the ground so you don’t miss out. But I’ll be around to lend you a “hand” and tell you where you can find them.

That’s not all… on August 28, we will also bid a fond farewell to our friendly store location, Greetings From California. While we are sad to see it go, I assure you that the stores taking its place, set to debut next year, will be the hit of the street and the talk of the town. But you’ll have to wait a few more months to find out more.

While I know it seems like there are a lot of changes underway, I promise you that we have many great things “in store” in the coming year. I look forward to sharing these great offerings with all of you in the coming months.

Urban 7 Love Connection

We showed you the photos from Urban 7’s trip to DHS and told you about the love that blossomed out of it. We got our hands on these pictures of Dizturb and Zombie School Girl getting close and comfortable with each other.

First they checked out a flick on Hollywood Blvd.
Then they went to an Aerosmith concert
In a trip to the Pizza Planet arcade, Dizturb tried to win a claw machine prize
While there, they saw the photo booth, and had to get some memories of this day…

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Hits Shore August 19

Update: 8/11/11 Disney just announced that the release date of 20000 will be postponed a week to August 19th.

The 9″ + 3″ Park 6 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea figure will be a Disney Store Online exclusive on August 12 19th. It is LE 1000.

Today, on the Disney Parks Blog, Caley Hicks, who designed the 9″ figure, talked about this classic attraction:
“When I was younger, I visited the Magic Kingdom each month with my dad,” explained Caley. “I loved the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction, particularly the mermaids. I was eager to design something for Vinylmation to pay tribute to the attraction.”

Take a look at the concept art.

Casey also talked about what went into this design:

“I learned that getting the squid to wrap around the Mickey Mouse shaped form was more difficult than I first thought,” continued Caley. “I used countless sheets of tracing paper to get the image correct. The finished figure looks wonderful, so it was worth the effort.”

Disney Artist Jason Zucker designed the 3″ Diver figure. This is one of my most anticipated Vinylmation. What about you?

Room For 1 More?

We brought you the news that there will in fact be a special Vinylmation for purchase at the Room For 1 More event celebrating the Haunted Mansion at 40 on September 30. Registration for the $285 event was up on July 20. So if you don’t have a ticket by now, you are probably going to have to look for the Vinylmation in the secondary market. But here is what the 3″ figure looks like:

A little underwhelming for my taste. Come on, we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion here. But the design is neat with the ghoul peaking out of a doom buggy. Then on the back, you can see the event logo and a question that haunts each and every guest to the classic attraction. This 3″ figure comes packaged with an Ear Hat and Pin. It’s LE 500 and designed by Monty Maldovan.

The Ear Hat is a different story. I love the look of this one pulling the colors of the wallpaper for the hat. The hitchhiking ghosts on the front. And the portraits on the ears.
