Vinylmation Speculation: Disneyland Paris Mystery Set

As you probably know by now, Disney has set up a new Vinylmation website for France, www.Vinylmation.fr. And today, they even updated to a third teaser image. If the rumor is true, we will soon see the announcement of a 12 figure mystery box set based on Disneyland Paris. If you are like us, you can’t wait for the actual announcment. And since we have never visited DLP, we asked a big fan of the park to speculate on what she thinks would make some great look vinyls for this set. Enjoy this article by Lindsey and let us know your ideas.

This list has beeen created based on things that I feel best represent Disneyland Paris for both uniqueness as well as being special. Some things may be quiet obscure but I wanted to focus on things that make the park different to the other Disney Parks worldwide. These are also things that I personally enjoy whenever I visit DLP.

1- Disney & Co Boutique Organ

This Organ has now been moved from its home in Disneyland Paris and will be going to WDW for the new Dumbo area in Fantasyland.

2- Alice’s Curious Maze

Photo from DLP.info

We already have a themed set of Alice, but a Vinylmation of this attraction would be justified as it’s unique to Disneyland Paris.

3- Phantom Manor

Now they have confirmed that the Phantom himself would be appearing in an upcoming Park set. But I think one based on the attraction or the building itself would be welcome.

4- Annette’s Diner

A bit more obscure as its actually in the Disney Village next to the park, but it’s become such a famous location that it deserves a place in this line up. It should Feature a waitresses on Rollerskates!

5- Indiana Jones et le Temple De Peril

Photo from DLP.info

This is a themed rollercoaster and the first Disney ride anywhere to feature a 360 loop (opened in 1993). So I think something themed to this ride would do well. Also, who doesn’t love Indy?

6- Skull Island

Photo from DLP.info

This is a big rock statue based on the iconic island from Peter Pan and think it would make a cool Vinylmation.

7- La Taniere Du Dragon

Photo from DLP.info

Though the famous Dragon from Sleeping Beauty should be on the rumoured 9”, this encounter with the sleeping dragon found at DLP is a worthy contender. The dragon is sleeping but he also awakens and blows smoke so this would be great as a Varient!

8- Videopolis Theatre (Hyperion)

This is a huge Airship which housed a stage for various productions. Now it just shows Disney shorts, but this iconic design deserves a Vinyl.

9- The Timekeeper (Le Visionarium)

Copyright Disney

This attraction was there from the park opening in 1992 until it was replaced by Buzz Lightyear. It was the first ‘Euro Disney’ attraction to be re-made at another Disney park (it later showed up at Magic Kingdom).

10- Moteurs… Action!

This stunt show has also made it over to America (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) and I think it will be a fun Vinyl.

11- Cinemagique

I love this show I have to see it every time we visit and normally more than once every time we visit. This unique 4D mixes live action with video. The show goes through different movies where Martin Short is skipping through the decades of movies. It is exclusive to Disneyland Paris and I think it would be nice to pay homage to it. A Martin Short Vinylmation maybe….

12- Crush’s Coaster

This spinning rollercoaster ride were the ride vehicle is a Shell with 2 front facing and 2 back facing seats, is based on Finding Nemo and is another Disneyland Paris exclusive. It is still one of the park’s busiest rides!

13- Discovery Arcade

Photo from DLP.info

This is set behind the shops on Main Street and fits in really well. It has a lot of historic inventions and artwork. It is also a lovely place to stop and eat in the colder months. It is stunning to look at.

Comedy Warehouse is Back For The Holidays!

Here is one of the strangest stories I have ever seen from the Disney Parks Blog:

What says “holidays” better than laughter? At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, laughter will ring out thanks to a special family comedy show scheduled for a limited run at the ABC Sound Studio (theatre) in the heart of the park.

From December 25 through December 31, “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” will present the best of improvisational comedy as performers – including alumni from the Comedy Warehouse on Pleasure Island – take suggestions from Guests and add their own brand of humor, right on the spot.

The performers hilariously reinvent holiday classics based on suggestions they solicit from the audience, including holiday songs, stories, poems and movie scenarios. Show times (subject to change) are 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. daily.

”The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” is included in park admission.

It appears that the park would rather bring back Comedy Warehouse than bring back Sounds Dangerous or replace the now closed Narnia exhibit. Merry Christmas!

“Insider” Details Revealed for Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

From the Disney Insider:

One of the delights of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation is that the magic doesn’t end when you leave the Theme Park gates and return to your room. At every Disney Resort property, Guests are greeted with the friendliness, service, and magical details that make Disney Disney. It’s no wonder that the opening of a new Hotel or Resort is big news!

Now Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, slated to open in phases beginning in May 2012, will take the concept of extending the magic further than ever before. As Frank Paris, Senior Project Manager – Walt Disney Imagineering and project lead for the new Resort, explains, “There are certain animated films that resound with our Guests. Everybody loves the immersive Disney experience they get in the Parks, but how do you do it in the Resort? Our idea was to immerse Guests in their favorite movies while staying at the Resort, so that they really feel like one of the Characters.” The Resort has 10 buildings clustered around four large courtyards, and each courtyard (with its surrounding buildings) has been themed to a different movie: “Cars,” “The Lion King,” “Finding Nemo,” and “The Little Mermaid.”

The legendary Imagineering attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the Resort. Arriving Guests will check in at a reception building celebrating the “art of animation” that brought each of these beloved films to life. Frank walks us through: “Imagineer Eric Jacobson came up with the idea ‘what goes through the mind of an animator at work?’ So the first thing you see are black-and-white hand-sketched images from all four movies on a long wall. As you enter, the tile starts to turn colors and at the check-in desk there’s a wave of color. As you move further down, the sketches become more like images from the movies. You are essentially walking through the creative process. Moving on, there’s a script wall with colored scenes from each of the movies that make a great mural. The retail area is the Ink and Paint Shop, and the dining area, called Landscapes, is decorated with the landscapes from the movies. It is an enormous artistic undertaking and display of great artwork. I think our Guests will be taken aback by the artwork and the amount of intense color, and brought right into the scene where they’re the star in any of these movies!”

Now that Guests have been through the mind of an animator, they’re ready to move into the world of the particular film their section of the Resort celebrates. Those who’ve chosen to stay in the world of “Cars” will find themselves on the road to Radiator Springs, encountering 11 of the Characters from the film along the way. When Guests enter the “Finding Nemo” courtyard, they become the size of Nemo and dive into the big blue with all their favorite Characters from the film. In “The Little Mermaid” courtyard, Guests venture under the sea and become part of Ariel’s world, while “The Lion King” courtyard puts you in the shoes – make that paws – of a teen-aged Simba for a trip from Pride Rock to the Elephant Graveyard. Each courtyard is full of details and surprises, from the Squirt’s Righteous Reef water play area celebrating “Finding Nemo” to the neon signs sprinkled through Radiator Springs. Even the landscaping fits the theme, with kelp-like fronds swaying around “The Little Mermaid” pool and jungle greenery in “The Lion King” area.

Inside the buildings, the themes are just as detailed – not always an easy challenge for the Imagineers to meet! Frank explains, “In the suites [available in the Lion King, Cars, and Nemo areas, while Little Mermaid offers individual rooms], you’ve got a pull-down bed that doubles as a table, a sleeper sofa, and a bed in the master bedroom, and you realize that for some of these films, there’s no reference for furniture! So how do you make the furniture make sense? We thought instead of re-creating locations from the films, why don’t we take fabric, colors, and textures and use them in a creative way to put people in the environment? So the sofa in ‘Nemo’ is a great red-orange wavy fabric that you could really imagine seeing underwater. The carpet is colors you’d expect to see in the ocean. The bathrooms are little pieces taken from the submarine, so there’s a round mirror that looks like a portal and the tile looks like metal flake with rust pattern that you could imagine came off the submarine. On the other hand, the film ‘Cars’ contained many of the details we needed, right down to the curtains in the Cozy Cone Motel.”

Fortunately, no one was better equipped to meet the challenges than Walt Disney Imagineering. As Frank observes, ” Imagineering is all about creating detailed immersive environments! We spent about two years on the design process, and I have books of the art from all the various movies we tried to put in here. We worked hand in hand with our partners at Pixar through the whole process, and worked with Feature Animation. The animator who animated Ursula even came out recently to look at the Ursula sculpture in the ‘Little Mermaid’ courtyard to give his approval!”

Whether they’re venturing under the sea, hitting the open road, or roaming the Pride Lands, Guests will get to experience a Disney vacation in a way they never have before – immersed in magic from the moment they first step into the Resort lobby until their heads hit the pillow in time for sweet Disney dreams.

The Storybook Circus Comes to Town February 2012!

We had already figured out that the new Dumbo spinner would be delighting guests by mid-February 2012, but now it sounds like the Barnstormer and the new Fantasyland train station will be ready as well for that date:

New Fantasyland (early 2012) – The largest expansion project in Magic Kingdom history will open in phases beginning February 2012 at Walt Disney World Resort, featuring attractions and experiences in an area that will nearly double the size of Fantasyland.  Among the novelties, guests will be able to fly high with The Great Goofini or with Dumbo the Flying Elephant, “immerse” themselves in Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid and “be our guest” at the Beast’s Castle. Out of the gate in early 2012 will be The Barnstormer coaster, Fantasyland Station and – for the first time anywhere turning counter-clockwise – the first half of the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction. Completion of The New Fantasyland is scheduled for 2014 with most new experiences open by 2013.

That’s right, we are just two short months away from the Storybook Circus! Who’s excited?

The Leaning Tower of Tires Gets Topped Off

From Imagineer Kathy Mangum on the Disney Parks Blog:

As the executive producer for Cars Land for the last 4 1/2 years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of seeing our project transform from concept sketches to the construction and installation phases. It’s so exciting to see the site get one step closer to completion every day and I continue to be amazed at all the work our talented team has done to make Cars Land a reality at Disney California Adventure park.

This part of the project is always my favorite because you can see the project really taking shape. We’re now testing all the rides, completing primary construction and installing major show pieces.

One of our biggest show pieces – the leaning tower of tires in front of Luigi’s Casa della Tires – was installed recently. It was a big production as we literally parked a crane in the middle of the job site to lift the tires into place! Cathy Ritenour, our production designer, was responsible for ensuring the tower was fabricated and installed to our specifications. Cathy gives a little more explanation about the tower in the video below that I think you’ll find interesting.

Four Seasons Finally Breaks Ground at Walt Disney World

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 6, 2011 – Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts kicked off construction of its luxury resort at Walt Disney World Resort today, in a groundbreaking ceremony with joint venture partners Silverstein Properties and Dune Real Estate. The 444-room resort will create about 2,000 construction jobs and hundreds of resort positions when open.

“Travelers around the world know and trust Four Seasons, and Walt Disney World is the world’s premiere family vacation destination,” said Meg Crofton, president, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations U.S. and France. “Together, our two companies offer a brand-new reason to visit and experience Central Florida.”

With an opening anticipated in 2014, Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort will feature several dining venues including a rooftop restaurant with views of Magic Kingdom Park; a 14,000 square foot spa; fitness center; three pools and a “lazy river”; sports and recreational facilities; as well as meeting and event space, and a business center.

Kathleen Taylor, President and CEO of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, spoke of the relationship with Disney: “Each of us is dedicated to creating a product of the highest quality and standards, something that will become a landmark here in Orlando and a destination unto itself for travelers from all over the world. It is truly a one-of-a-kind project and Central Florida will be a valuable addition to our family of resorts, particularly since this is a destination our guests already enjoy.”

The development will encompass the existing Tom Fazio-designed Osprey Ridge 18-hole championship golf course, which will be renovated and subsequently managed by Four Seasons. The first Four Seasons in Central Florida is located within the Golden Oak residential community, created and master-planned by Disney.

Four Seasons first acquired the land from Walt Disney World in 2008 and is working closely with New York-based Silverstein Properties and Dune Real Estate Partners to develop the new resort.

Larry Silverstein, president and CEO of Silverstein Properties, recalled making the decision to back the project. “At the end of the day, it became apparent that the concept was right; that the team superb; the location first class; and the two names – Four Seasons and Disney – as good as you can get,” he said. “The best.”

Four Seasons is dedicated to perfecting the travel experience through continual innovation and the highest standards of hospitality, with 85 properties in 35 countries, and more than 50 projects under development.

Silverstein Properties, Inc. is a privately held, full-service real estate development, investment and management firm based in New York.

Evilos Designs New Mansion Custom

When the new Brick pattern 9″ Create Your Own Vinylmation was released by Disney in November, it caused many to scratch their heads. But not custom artist Evilos. I remember a tweet he sent out stating he just ran out and picked a few up because he had some good ideas for their use. He was not kidding! Evilos just released a YouTube video of his new Haunted Mansion custom and it makes perfect use of the brick pattern to pay an amazing tribute to the legendary attraction.
