Spotlight On: Custom Vinylmation Artist Cesilie

Destination Vinylmation: A long time ago we featured some of your work, but I honestly do not think we ever posted the finished sports players. I love the sculpted hats!

Cesilie: Thanks! They were fun to create and I have a few more hats sitting around waiting to be… drafted to a team 😉

DV: USA Mickey is all over your Facebook page. Did you have any challenges creating the rustic look on him?

Cesilie: My mom is the mastermind behind the antiquing process. When I created my vintage Minnie she suggested we give them a lil bit of something extra. Since I’m all about the vintage feel and look I thought giving them a bit of brown would make them look sort of wooden. It’s actually a really easy thing to do.

DV: Oswald! How long did it take you after seeing Disney Easter Bunny to decide to make this?

Cesilie: Literally as soon as I saw the leaked photos of the Easter Donald vinyl I screamed “OSWALD!!!!”. I’ve been wanting to make an Oswald since I started doing my vinyls… For me he’s such an under rated and under appreciated Disney character- after all if it wasn’t for Oswald being taken away there would’ve been no Mickey!

My motto’s always been “It may be big because of the mouse but it’s because of the loss of the rabbit.”. When I was able to go to Disneyland and pick up some of the Easter Bunnies I just knew they would be perfect for an Oswald 🙂

DV: Is Facebook still the best place to contact you and see your work? Do you still do commissioned pieces?

It is! Facebook.com/MoDoodleDesigns. I still do commissioned pieces! I’m working on an Avengers set right now as well as some Phantom of the Opera figures. I’ve also opened up my art mediums to other vinyl platforms like dunnys and kidrobots.

Spotlight On: Custom Artist Crazy4Vinyls’ Toy Story Series 2

Last week we posted Mike Boon’s speculation on the vinyl sequel to the Toy Story Series. When he saw them, Crazy4Vinyl mentioned that he had done similar series. So, to continue the theme, here is Crazy4Vinyls’ Toy Story Series 2.

What do you think? These are some really cool characters. First he has Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead. Then Chuckles and Mr. Pricklepants. Then to round out the set of figures similar to Mike’s he has Dolly. I think the Chuckles came out magnificent. And Mr. Potatohead’s hat looks great (I think this set was done before Villains 2.

To complete the set he has Puck, Bookworm, and Stretch. Two additional awesome characters included are, Totoro (a Japanese Miyazak character who has a cameo in Toy Story 3) and the Troika nesting doll. Take a peek above at the full turn around of Troika. And then below look at the original character.

Crazy4Vinyl did a great job and found some really cool characters that would be a great addition to the Toy Story 1 series already out. Good job Crazy and let us know what you think in the comments below. Anyone else you would want to see in this set?

Villains 3 Sneak Peek

Many Disney fans are rejoicing today. Disney has released a sneak peek of Villains 3 and look who is a part of this set:

Chernabog of Fantasia fame! He is much anticipated and a welcome addition to Vinylmation. The artists went the extra mile and even added the wings. Worth the wait for sure. The second figure is the coachman from Pinocchio.

I would love to see more of a peek, but beggars can’t be choosers. Maybe at the WDW trade night this Friday? Villains 3 is set for a June 18th release at Disney Stores.

Disney Mozart: Speculation on Villains 3

This is DisneyMozart picking up the baton again. Today I will be doing a little speculation on the much anticipated summer set, Villains 3. The two previous installments of Villains have absolutely wowed me and I expect that Disney is going to nothing short of phenomenal on this series. I would love to see them pull in a few Villains that are played up at the parks, but not as popular in the movies. Also, as they have been so focused on the pairs as of late, I think we could see a series setup like this: 4 pairs, 1 trio, and the chaser. So, without further ado, here comes the speculation!!! To start out-

Anastasia, Drizella, and Lucifer

These two wicked stepsisters are always having Cinderella do their dirty work, and never feeling bad about it. While their kitty, Lucifer, is always tormenting Cindy and her animal friends. These three are an obvious choice to follow their wicked stepmother, Lady Tremaine, from the previous Villains 2 series.

Pain and Panic

Pain and Panic are Hades two henchmen in Hercules, and they are one of the most frantic pairs in Disney history. I think these have the right kind of look to fit on the mold, and like the trio before, a great follow up to Hades from Villains 2. I also think that a tail would be a must, and I think that horns might also look snazzy on the figures.

Gaston and Le Fou

It surprises me that neither of these Beauty and the Best bad guys have been done up to this point. A natural pair, these two would fit on the mold differently-I think Le Fou would fit better than Gaston because Le Fou has a fatter face. I think that it is time to finally put these two in a set!!!

Brer Fox and Brer Bear

These are two characters that are really popular in the Disney Parks (Splash Mountain), but somebody who doesn’t know a lot about Disney couldn’t tell you what movie they are from-The Song of the South. I would love a club accessory to go along with Brer Bear.

Heffalump and Woozle

These are the two that I am the most excited about!!! When I thought to add Heffalump and Woozle (Winnie the Pooh) to my speculation piece, I almost squealed! These two would look fantastic on the mold, and could very easily have multiple variants, much like the Pink Elephant from Animation 1. These are also villains that not everybody instantly thinks of, so a great obscure choice!

Chernabog (Chaser)

A desire from I think just about everybody and their dog. This would be absolutely the best chaser, EVER!!! Like from every set ever. Chernabog is just one of those scary characters that everybody loves!!! I really want this one to be made into a Vinylmation, it would make my entire life!

This is my dream Villains set! I don’t really think there is a figure that I speculated on that I wouldn’t love to have on my shelf. For this post, I think I’m about ready to put the conductor’s baton away. Stay tuned for a 9”/3” Villains 3 speculation piece in the next week. Over and out.

Animal House: The Mascot Series

Update: 5/7/12 The Disney Vinylmation Blog added Mascot Series to the release schedule today. Look for them on June 22 at D-Streets. They will be sold individually in open window boxes for $12.95. No word yet on other figures.

5/5/12 A few readers sent us over some pictures of new figure found on eBay. Hopefully someone landed in detention for leaking this, as it is another “dumpster diver” from Hong Kong. This one has intrigued me more than any of the dirty vinyls we have seen the past couple weeks. The name of the series this Pluto is from is called “Mascots.”

The second I saw this vinyl, I immediately thought of a line of clothing I see at the parks. The various shirts, jackets, hats, etc… feature Mickey and Donald in a retro university style. Not until I took a peak on the DisneyStore.com did I realize they call this clothing line “Mascots.” Take a look at some of the styles below and let me know if you agree, but once I saw the name, I’m even more convinced they are connected.

Donald Duck Sweatshirt

To my dismay, there is only one Donald Duck item, this sweatshirt. One I would love to have, but I would only get to wear it like once a year living in Orlando. I always thought the graphic was incredible. I really like the retro look and as you can see, they do them in a number of poses and facial expressions.

The design style chosen for Pluto just looks amazing. We do know, the artist on this one is Maria Clapsis.

If the Mascot series turns out to be like the clothing line, I will most likely be signing up day one… as long as the final product line makes the grade.

Avenger’s Assemble

MC went to the midnight showing of Marvel’s The Avengers late last night and well, he really thought it rocked. So if you want to see a kick butt movie with great effects and a fun script check it out. It opened today. And just remember that it’s a Disney property now that they own Marvel, so you’re supporting your favorite mouse.

Above is a look at Cesar Diaz’ Captain America that we spotlighted a while ago. Check out that post here:

ZoMG: The New D-Street Anaheim Window Decorations!

Walking through Downtown Disney the other night I noticed something different about the D-Street window. Disney finally decided to change it up and I absolutely love it.

I was surprised because I had no idea that a change was coming but it looks great!

Overall the window is fun and somewhat interactive. There are Vinylmation ALL OVER this window display. Vinylmation hanging at the very top of the window, some trying to paint the large create your own placed in the center of the window, and some just hanging around in boxes and lights.

I like this idea because every time you take a look at the window you notice something new.

To get the BEST overall look at the new D-Street window, I recommend stopping by at night.

I recommend this because during the day it still looks great but at night, the window is lit up and there are a few lighting surprises throughout the window that you don’t notice during the day!

With that said, next time you are at D-Street in California, make sure you take a peek at the new D-Street window display!

You might even find a hidden upcoming figure or two!

Here are a few more scenes from the window.

Star Wars 1 Photoshoot

May the 4th be with you! Disney’s Star Wars Weekends is almost upon us once again and the figures from Star Wars series 1 didn’t want to miss out on the action. So we all packed into the Millennium Falcon (my Honda) and traveled at light speed (about 70 shhh) and descended on the planet known as Walt Disney World. We used the force to get through the Stormtroopers at the front gate (my annual pass) and made our way over to Tatooine (Traders).

VM Speculation with Mike Boon: Babyface and Chaser

The last day of Mike’s Toy Story Series 2 speculation. We’d like to thank Mike again (for like the 7th time) for all the great artwork he allows us to post on our site. I hope you guys enjoyed this set, and if there is any other interesting set you think might be fun to see in the future, let us know!

  Babyface
Toy Story (1995)

The leader of Sid’s mutant toys in the first Toy Story, Babyface consists of a baby doll head atop a spider-like body made of an erector set. Though Big Baby in Toy Story Series 1 was a disappointment, I like the mix of dark and cute in this character design.

“Mike did a great job with the legs in this figure. This is what the robot chef should have looked like!”-M.C.

  Woody’s Roundup Woody
Toy Story 2 (1999)
Voiced by: Tom Hanks

I wanted to include either Buzz or Woody in this series. I thought about a Spanish Buzz, but the puppet Woody from the TV series Woody’s Roundup seemed like more of a treat. I tried to tie the design into the Woody from Series 1. This would be the chaser for the series.

“Prefect”-M.C.
