The Second Marvel Variant Surfaces

Today finally saw the release of the first series of Marvel Vinylmation.  And thanks to Vinylmation World, the second variant in this set was revealed.  It is a variant of Thor with a beard.

And here are both figures together:

I have to admit I’m a little disappointed.  After the awesome Phasing Vision that is in this set, as well as all of the source material they could have pulls from, this feels like a huge miss.  It follows similar variants like Monsters University and Muppets 3 where only a minor detail on the figure has been altered.  What are your thoughts?

Jingle Smells 3 Features Character Nutcrackers

The 2013 installment of Vinylmation’s best smelling series will have the theme of Disney Characters as Nutcrackers. Vinylmation World has posted a leaked photo of Jingle Smells 3 and it features a peppermint scented Goofy, a Mickey that smells like sugar cookie, Minnie with a strawberry scent and a chocolate scented Donald.

Like the previous sets, each Jingle Smells 3 figure has an ornament top with a ribbon for hanging. No word on if they are designed by Disney Store artists like series 1 or Disney Design Group artists like the second series. Vinylmation World reports that Disney Stores and Disneystore.com will release these four open window figures in the next few weeks. I hope D-Street gets them too like last Christmas, but no word yet.

Overall, I like the unique take on the characters. They have vibrant colors and cool accessories. I think I would still say series 2 is more fun, but these are well though out and exactly what collectors want.

Updated Release Dates

Mark those calendars, because the official Vinylmation blog has posted some upcoming release dates throughout the rest of October and November.  October 18th sees the release of the 4th Disney Afternoons two-pack.  Designed by Maria Clapsis, it will retail for $29.95 (parks and online, LE 1500).

Next up, the final release this month will be the second series of The Nightmare Before Christmas.  Already released at Reflections of Evil, the general public will now get a chance to finish up their sets.  It is releasing both at the parks and online.

The first release of November takes place on November 1st, and is the next installment of the poster series.  This one is a Paola Gutierrez design, and will retail for $14.95 at the parks only (LE 2013).

Also releasing on the first is an assortment of Holiday themed vinyls.  These range from an ornament two-pack designed by Caley Hicks ($24.95, parks and online),

to an adorable two-pack designed by Maria Clapsis, which features Mickey and Minnie on ice skates!!! ($24.95, parks and online)

and another Maria Clapsis design, a Santa Minnie, to accompany your Santa Mickey that was released last year ($14.95, parks and online).

The next date that is having releases is November 8th, and its a big one.  First up is the second Meet-And-Greet Mickey.  Themed around Festival of the Masters, it contains a yellow and red design, and is produced by Thomas Scott (LE 500, $49.95, WDW only).

Another Festival of the Masters exclusive is a Ron Cohee designed Mickey, which will also feature a paint splattered variant similar to the Gusteau released at the Food and Wine festival.  Each blind box will be $16.95, limited to 1200, and is exclusive to WDW.  These will also follow the 9/10 and 1/10 ratio.

WDW stays busy with the exclusive Animal Kingdom two-packs.  First previewed at ROE, they are designed by Maria Clapsis and reflect artwork from Animal Kingdom.  The expressions on Mickey and Pooh’s faces are just priceless.  Each pack is limited to 2000 and is $29.95.

Believe it or not, Vinylmation is already 5 years old!!! And what better way to commemorate this than an exclusive vinyl!! This is a Thomas Scott design, that will also feature a bright green variant.  The vinyl is an LE 1000, which means that there are just 100 of the variants out there, so good luck!! They will retail for $16.95 each, and will be sold both at the parks and online.

And finally, we get to the release I am most excited about, the Marvel two-pack.  This set was designed by Thomas Scott, and features Yellowjacket and The Wasp.  It is highly limited to 1000, so if you want to complete your original members of The Avengers, you better get to D-Street early!! It is parks only and will cost $29.95.

So which release are you most excited about? Anyone else terrified about how broke they are about to be?

Under the Big Top Photoshoot

When Storybook Circus came to town, we knew that would be the perfect place to take the Under the Big Top Vinylmation for a visit to Walt Disney World.

Variants Galore!!!!

This week, three brand new variants have surfaced, one of which was an original sketch that never materialized. The first variant discovered comes in the Villains 4 set that releases this Friday. Originally discovered by Vinylmation World, it’s Dr. Frankenollie from Runaway Brain, albeit with a much more sinister look and accessory. Definitely a scarier version than the original design.

The next variant is the first reveal of the hotly anticipated Marvel variants. It was originally discovered by Vinylmation Exchange member Alphonso Harris, and it’s a translucent Vision, one of the lesser known Avengers. It’s an interesting choice, as Vision is not necessarily a household, but I absolutely love it. And it will look amazing on the light-up base!!!

Finally, we got a preview on Instagram from Nacho Rodriguez of an abandoned Robots 3 variant. It was to be a robot Mickey with what is described as a “vintage” black and gold coloring. No reason was given as to why the design was canned.

So what do you guys think? Are these Villains 4 and Marvel variants must haves for your collection? Are you sad to see that the Robots 3 variant was never released? Let us know!!!

New San Francisco Trolley and Lombard Junior Key Chains

Disney Store Artist Enrique Pita showed off a photo on Instagram of his 3″ Lombard Street design turned into a Junior key chain.

The junior is now available at the San Francisco Disney Store along with a Junior version of the RED Trolley. That is kind of interesting seeing that the Red Trolley design is a Dan Beltran design from a 3″ back when Mickey still had a contoured nose. Enrique just recently released an updated, green version of the trolley. Here are both new Junior key chains in their packages courtesy of Vinylmation Exchange.

Disney Store BOGO with Villains 4 Release

Villains 4 is coming to Disney Stores on October 11th and Vinylmation Kingdom reports that guests will be able to grab a free Wild West or Medieval blind box for every Villains 4 blind box you purchase. Deal depends on your store’s current stock.

Mini Medal Released for Tower of Terror 10 Miler

One of the great new commemorative Vinylmation items released over the past year was the mini medals for the WDW Marathon weekend in January and then subsequent races over spring. They seemed very popular, even for collectors who did not take part in the run. So we were hoping to see the trend continue. With no announcement, the mini medals showed up once again at the expo for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler held at Walt Disney World on October 5th.

The mini medal fits around the generic 2013 Run Disney 3″ Vinylmation that is open edition and has been sold in stores throughout the year. The medal itself has an engraving of the Tower of Terror and the year 2013. The mini medals retail for $1.95 and do not have an edition size. No official word, but I would assume if there were left overs from the expo, the medals could be found at ESPN Wide World of Sports and/or D-Street.

Next year, we will see the debut of a new blind boxed Run Disney 2014 figure with a variant. Since the figure is again generic, I do hope we see a return of the mini medals.
