Episode 126 Primeval Whirl

Ep. 126 Primeval Whirl This week we talk about the latest Park Starz and Disney Afternoon news. We also discuss the current atmosphere of D-Street… how has it changed? And we introduce a new segment to the show where we talk to the admins of Vinylmation Exchange about current trends in the hobby. |
Rumor of More Disney Afternoon Series 2
Vinylmation Kingdom is reporting a few more names on the Disney Afternoon Series 2 list. They have info from a source who says to watch out for a second combo of both Darkwing Duck and Talespin and a first combo pack of Gummi Bears.
Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers have already been announced for series two. Gummi Bears is interesting because we saw “dumpster divers” a long time ago from a Hong Kong eBay seller. These were prototypes or tests produced but never meant for public consumption. They were trashed, but apparently some made their way out of the bin.
NOTE: Before all the comments begin to stream in… these Gummi Bears pictured below ARE NOT the vinyls rumored above. These are photos of the “dumpster divers” and were produced on the original Mickey platform. We fully expect the new Gummi Bears, if proven true, to be produced on the current Mickey platform.
As far as a second Darkwing and Talespin set… what characters do you want to see?
Park Starz 2 Variant “Set” Photo Leaked
Vinylmation Exchange posted a photo of the yet to be officially announced Park Starz 2 Variant Set that is scheduled for a July release.
It looks like the Pirates of the Caribbean Red Head will be teamed up with the series one POTC Pirate Skeleton for a sepia toned combo pack. As someone who is already not a huge variant fan, I think this is a big miss. First of all… she is the RED HEAD. She is known for her red hair. The original version is perfect in every possible way. I understand the vintage idea of using sepia for the pirates attraction, but I think sepia could have worked better for a Mark Twain or Wally Boag. That being said, POTC is much more popular than those two figures and so this will be marketed and will sell very well. This pack should be LE 2000 and cost $49.95.
Donald Duck Popcorns!
The second series of Popcorns is almost upon us and it appears Donald Duck will lead the charge.
This figure is set to be released on August 9th. A few interesting notes… it will be an LE of 2500. Will all future Popcorns be an LE? Or is this a variant Donald? Only variants from series one had an LE. We did know there would be a Donald in Popcorns series 2, it was told to us by Disney and we saw his concept art on the boxes from series one. And this product shot does look a little different to me, so a variant is a possibility.
It will also retail for $19.95. Originally Popcorns were priced at $24.95, then went on sale online for $5 around Christmas, then settled in at $19.95 online and in the parks. So that is a welcome change. I love the look of the above Donald and Maria Clapsis is credited with the design. Doug Strayer was credited with all of series one. One final note, we do still expect to see a Stitch and Frankenweenie as part of this second series.
Zip on down for Rescue Rangers #2
Looks like me know more about the Disney Afternoons line. The second set inspired buy the show Rescue Rangers will be hitting the internet and D-Street stores on August 16th. The set will cost $29.95, it be a LE of 1500, and is designed by Maria Clapsis and Monty Maldovan. And now for the big news, it will be a three figure set (two 3″ and a Jr) containing the characters Monterey Jack, Gadget Hackwrench, and Zipper.
This is what I love to see from Disney Afternoons. Perfect! Now all we need is for Gadget to have a wrench accessory!
What do you think of this set?

Aloha! Mickey Surfs Washes Ashore
We have been waiting to see the Mickey Surfs figure that was rumored to be coming to the Honolulu, Hawaii Disney Store. Well, thanks to Enrique Pita, the artist himself, the wait is over.
It has become common place to get more info about Disney Store releases from Enrique Pita than the Disney PR outlets. Enrique posted this photo on his Facebook page and according to the post, Mickey Surfs was released today, June 24th at the Ala Moana Disney Store in Honolulu, HI.
It is an absolutely great design. Nice simple lines and cool painted on sunglasses. And of course, the accessory Surf Board. It makes a wonderful Disney-themed souvenir from Hawaii.
Enrique Pita also posted a photo of the back of the surf board. Wow, the detail here is tremendous.
