Kermit will be back online soon

Disney informed us today that they have taken some of the D-Street stores stock of 9″ Muppets 2 3-D Kermits and are going to open them up for release on the online store. The online store had sold out of the Kermits on the day they were released. The new online release for the extra Kermits is August 19th, the same day as the Gonzo and Camilla 9″/3″ is released.

Catch Gonzo the Great at D-Streets August 19

The same day Disney fans from all over the world will be converging upon Anaheim for the D23 Expo, Gonzo will be making an appearance at D-Streets on both coasts. Gonzo has skills. By his side of course, will be his girlfriend Camilla. This 9″ + 3″ combo should be around for extended appearances as it’s a LE 1500. Gonzo and Camilla were designed by Monty Maldovan and will retail for $74.95. Oh, and you can also find this Muppets 2 combo on Disney Store Online. Here’s a look:

As with Sam the Eagle, Monty’s placement of Gonzo’s nose should give that 3D effect of it sticking out a bit. Too bad an exception wasn’t made for Gonzo to stick his classic nose out more.

The cool thing about Muppets is they have so many different outfits you can put them in. That creates a long life for the Muppets series down the road. I like this choice for the Gonzo 9″. He has his bow tie and flower. I look forward to still seeing some 3″ Gonzos in future sets.

I think M.C. would agree, this 9″ + 3″ combo makes so much sense. Pairing Gonzo with his chicken girlfriend Camilla is perfect. I never understood this relationship as a kid watching the show. Camilla also fits nicely on the Mickey mold.

Animal is about to rock the house!

Kermit 3-D 9″ Animal 9″

Today Vinylmation.com announced that the Kermit 3-D and Animal 9″ figures that are part of the Muppets 2 set will be released on August 5th at both D-Streets. Each piece is by Monty Maldovan and will retail for $44.95. There will only be 1500 of each piece.

Are you picking these up? Let us know!

“Soaring High” DV Review: Sam the Eagle

9″ Muppets 2 Sam the Eagle
Artist: Monty Maldovan
LE: 1500
Price: $44.95

3 for 3 today Disney. Great job. I may have been more excited to see Up. I always love tributes to extinct attractions I love. But Sam the Eagle stole the show today. Hands down, one of the top five 9″ Vinylmation ever created.

Pictures do not do the paint job justice. The colors are exquisite. As M.C. pointed out yesterday, take a close look at the beak. An amazing job by Monty to give an optical illusion that the beak is pointed down.
The USA flag colors in the ears and the feathers all around are painted on extremely well. Just an over striking figure.
On the back, you have one of the coolest features… Sam’s tail. It’s a well done and sturdy piece that makes Sam stand out among other vinyls. It gives him and extra added presence that looks remarkable when posing him.
A big win for Vinylmation today. He might be overshadowed by Animal and 3D Kermit, but Sam will end up being the best crafted of the bunch.

And now, a Political Message from our Censor

“You are all weirdos!”

It’s our highest honor to present, from The Muppet Show, Sam the Eagle, swooping into D-Street stores tomorrow.

From the pictures he looks really good. I love the little touches, like the talons on the feet and the single huge eye brow. The painting of the beak on the nose looks great from the front. It even seems hooked in front, which is an awesome optical job. Also don’t forget the most important part, Sam’s home country’s flag painted in the eagle’s ears. Sam is an American patriot and he wants everyone to know!

On the back the attention to detail continues. The talons show on claw in the back. The feathers around the head clearly point out that Sam is a BALD eagle. And check out that 3D tail. Very cool. I can’t wait to see Sam up close because I think he’s going to be fabulous.

History

Sam first appeared as part of the cast of the original Muppet Show pilot in 1975. He also appeared on a number of the Muppet Meetings Films. His role on the Muppet Show was that of show censor, worrying about phrases and acts that he found might be vulgar. Later he started giving speeches of the American way and other politically motivated topics. He often found out that he himself was in violation of the very thing he was fighting against (see the Naked speech).

Sam went on after the Muppet Show to get cameo parts in many of the Muppet films, as well as being the only Muppet character to be seen on the Jim Henson Animal Show.

Jim Henson designed Sam and he was built by Don Sahlin. He was mainly performed by Frank Oz.
